There's a default Hawke appearance, but I don't think any of the classes are default.

I prefer 'default' to canon or iconic. We also know that for DA II, the default is that the Dark Ritual happened while Alistair and Anora ruled Ferelden, but that doesn't mean it's the canon story.

Uh no. We get a choice of defaults

Well here's hoping I can figure it out before the release >.< Nothing quite beats the first playthrough of a game, and I'd really want the right class for it. It seems to be currently, that it is mage that is the way to go from how much the promo and everything goes with it.

There 'is' a Default Hawke. Just like there was a 'Default' Warden.

Dragon Age: Origins - Default Warden : Human Male Warrior. From the Games importance on this Origin over others and the Trailers that showed off Default Warden as a Human Male Warrior.

Also, there were default choices for Origins which Awakening let on. Here are some of them...

- Aliaster is King.

- Warden is either Dead or Vanished.

- Morrigan ran off and bore a child.

From what we've seen thusfar...

Dragon Age 2 - Default Hawke: Human Male Mage

I fully expect the Default Hero for Dragon Age 3 to be...

Dragon Age 3 - Default Hero: Human Male Rogue

Mage is probably the most involving. As non mage you still have your sister to protect, but it is not the same. If you are apostate mage yourself you cannot side with templars, while if you were just the brother of an apostate you probably could. In theory.

Which in turn is the 'default' Hawke and how many people will see Hawke as. A Human Male Mage.

Look at Shepard. In every trailer he's in he's a Human Male Soldier. No surprise that most Shepards ended up being Soldiers, huh?

Wouldn't that mean that playing non-mage would give you a greater range of choice in the game, hypothetically speakng, since you would not be forced to oppose the Templars?

Yes. Being Apostate probably wouldn't give you alot of choices. I'll play warrior in my first anyway, since I always do that. Having less choices is not necessarily a bad thing though.

I'm sure they wont lock Hawke out from sideing with the Templars if he's a mage. After all, not all Templars approve of the mistreatment of Mages. It's just that those in power and their incircle sees things differently.

I'll make my choice depending on what more info we get towards release I guess, if it keeps being alot of mage stuff, that tells to me that it is there I will get the most.. I dont even know a word for it. But if you're read through this thread, you probably know what I mean

Well, the Hawke in the title and on the front and in the trailers are a Mage (Hawke's mage Robes are on) using the Staff of Parthalan. But that doesn't mean he is default.

Default and default. But I get the sence that Mage Hawke is the real Hawke since, like I said, they use Hawke to promote the game and the Hawk on the front (and in the trailers) have Hawke's Mage Robes on and are using Staff of Parthalan.

From how much they're flaunting off him being mage, I get the feeling that's prolly where the most exciting story will be myself :P

I'm more worried about how mage clothes will look. Considering hawke isnt a circle mage, him dressing around in robes would seem a bit odd

I saw a picture with hawke wearing a robe in Kirkwall, so I guess mages are stuck with robes until they get the legend armor thing. I guess im going warrior first then.. I dont think I could stand trying to be epic wearing a robe like that :-/ Well, not the first time through anyhow.

from what i've seen in the rise to power trailer hawke uses fire witch shoots out of his sword and the sword was the warriors default witch makes me think all classes have their own branch of magic.

Canon Hawke ( ... if there is such a thing ) is quite obviously a blood mage. You need to look no further than the destiny trailer to discern that. If that isn't enough take a quick glance at his family tree.

It is a mage with the staff of parlathan and who wear the best armour available that gives him decent melee stats.

Where is his family tree? :P

And yeah so I figured too, which is why I asked to really be sure.

And to the poster above me, you can't be a melee mage <.<; You just get a melee animation when the enemy is in your face, the dmg you do is still the same as if your staff just shot at them.

The registration bonus item is a Hybrid Mage Staff. Not sure if the item is Hawk use only, or any mage can use it. If the former then it tend to tip the scale towards Hawk being mage.

Where is his family tree? :P

an ancestor named Parthalan who was a powerful mage that helped King Calenhad.

Leandra Amell his mother who's family has produced mages before. She may be a mage herself, but this probably isn't so

Hawke's father who was a mage. sry I can't find his name. I don't think its been released yet.

Bethany who is a mage.

Carver who is not a mage, but seeing as he comes from a family where magic runs strong, can and probably will produce mage children if he were to settle down with some one.

The Warden if you played a mage- They are cousins

Morrigan if you romanced her and performed the DR.... Well kinda. She would be considered a cousin through marriage, though she would never marry, but I would consider her family if I were Hawke. Even though its extended family.

The Warden and Morrigan's son. And if I had to guess he will be a mage.

And last but not least Flemeth who is of course a mage. Again not a blood relation but you know what I mean.
