The registration bonus item is a Hybrid Mage Staff. Not sure if the item is Hawk use only, or any mage can use it. If the former then it tend to tip the scale towards Hawk being mage.

It was said somewhere on the forums not to long ago that you can switch weapons with people who are the same class as you, so we should assume the staff is not Hawk only. Besides that would rob the people, who don't plan on playing a mage, of a good item their squad-mates could use.

Canon Hawke ( ... if there is such a thing ) is quite obviously a blood mage. You need to look no further than the destiny trailer to discern that. If that isn't enough take a quick glance at his family tree.

Where is his family tree? :P

Leandra Amell his mother who's family has produced mages before. She may be a mage herself, but this probably isn't so

Why does the name Amell sound so familiar? Is that the surname of one of your characters in Dragon age? O.o

Huh I see. I wonder if that matters some way into the story when you play.

Maybe im thinking too much mass effect on this, I doubt this game will be quite as strong like that with dragon age since it isnt announced to be that kind of a game or anything.

I dunno, kind of what I hope so I dont need to play the game over and over and over again. I've already played it so many times all the surprises are lost :P

I totally get what you mean by default mage Hawke. I too also find it difficult to put into words. I guess I would say that mage Hawke would be the Hawke that would be used is, say, DA2 was actually a book and needed a clearly defined character and class. Or if, say, you were to hold the devs at gun point and shout "WHAT IS CANONICAL HAWKE!!!!!" even if their is no set canon and they would say "blood mage Hawke". Again, as you said, the one that feels the most "right".

I'm definitely playing a mage (the hawke mage armor looks really sweet and hopefuly there will be something as in the trailers with magic + melee)

The fact that he is connected by blood with my mage warden makes it all the more intruiging to play.

Mages can do melee, but as I understand it its only basic attacks.

A real pain to choose, walking around in a robe.. Man I dont know, I have a hard time dealing with it, atleast robes like we've seen, they're so.. Blah. Plain, which works fine enough for like chantry mages, but this guy's an apostate (if you go mage), would like sumthing a bit more interesting to wear.. I hope the robe we've seen, was like, the only one, or or one of several picks of oufits you could currently have at the time.

I find myself usually wearing worse outfits (In stats) if they look better :P Im vain like that

everything is said...

Hawke is like Shepard : there is no real one. there is a ''basic'' one for peoples who don't want to customize and keep it simple. but this is just not like the Grey Warden or Revan where there is no official faces. it's just a marketing stuff... Actually I hate beards as you can see on my Avatar : I prefer something less ''fantasy'' and more like me. <3

wait a moment guys ...the "standard" main hero of DA:O was supposed to be:

a male warrior of noble origins

sword and shield style

With a tattoo on his left side of the face

black short hair with light beard

DA2 we have a male mage of non-so-noble origin, a mage with a staff that can be used both as melee and magic weapon. He seems to be a blood mage or an arcane blood warrior at very least.

Now my question is:

considering that i HATE the mages' vests but I'd Rather wear an armor you suggest me to:

Make a mage Hawke and find a vest that resemble a armor

make a Warrior Hawke with arcane spell specialization?

Trailer Hawke is indeed a blood mage.

As for story-explanation, well let's face it - a man rising from nowhere who becomes a Viscount [king] and a Champion while bieng a BLOOD MAGE is infinitely more interesting to the Chantry than a Warrior/Rogue who did the same thing.

Default Hawke, if there's importing for DAIII will be a Human Male Mage just like Default Warden is a Human Male Warrior.

I almost never EVER play mage characters, let alone on my first play through. But I'm leaning towards it, and very tempted to do so, as it seems to FIT the character the most. The family history of mages, being a son/daughter of an apostate, brother/sister to an apostate. And the fact, that even though there is no Arcane Warrior specialization, you can pretty much just build one now, and have cool sword/staff combo weapons... well the writing is on the wall, as they say.

Yeah well im curious if Bioware, using that as the marketing Hawke, is the one that's best fit as being Hawke.

They are marketing Hawke as a mage (Just look att the CGI-trailer and the front of the DVD-case). I think it has to do with Mage Hawke being the first one they finnished making armor/weapon for.
But it also has to do with the fact that Mage Hawke was where they started when the started to plan the game. If you check the art in the Dev Diarys you se that they are all Mage Hawke and they talk alot about how they wanted a bad ass barbarian Blood Mage who drank his enemys blood and smeared blood on his body.
I think that made them most intrested in making a cool Mage Hawke and trying to sell the game with him.
That doesn't mean that they think of Hawke as a Mage, just that the origin of the character was from playing with Mage ideas.

I understand how you feal because I also get the feeling like Mage Hawke is the "real" Hawke just like I got that Human Noble Warrior was the "real" Warden. I'm having a hard time desiding to what character I should import my "real" Warden save. I wan't it to be Mage Hawke since he feels so right but I also whant Bethany to be in my "real" story.

There 'is' a Default Hawke. Just like there was a 'Default' Warden.

Dragon Age: Origins - Default Warden : Human Male Warrior. From the Games importance on this Origin over others and the Trailers that showed off Default Warden as a Human Male Warrior.

Also, there were default choices for Origins which Awakening let on. Here are some of them...

- Aliaster is King.
- Warden is either Dead or Vanished.
- Morrigan ran off and bore a child.

From what we've seen thusfar...

Dragon Age 2 - Default Hawke: Human Male Mage

I fully expect the Default Hero for Dragon Age 3 to be...

Dragon Age 3 - Default Hero: Human Male Rogue

to be more precise in origins the 'default' is the male human noble, though all the trailers and stuff showed him as a warrior, i doubt it does matter if it was a rogue or warrior

whereas in DA2 each class is made in a spectacular way, surpassing origins and mage is clearly the kickass among them.

as you've said, even I would like to see a 'rogue' hero in da3

Canon and default are not the same thing. Canon is true whether you like it or not regardless of what you have or have not done, default is the choice assumed in leau of a flag with the actual decision imported.

Canon: Leliana's survival for DA2. (Survives regardless of whether you killed her at the Ashes.)
Default: Alistair sole ruler in DA2. (If you import a game that has not finished the Landsmeet, this choice is automaticaly chosen.)

...there is no default or canon Hawke.
