I think ME1 is better than ME2 because it keeps the "space opera", it's..i don't know, deeper.
Still, it has A LOT of bugs, gameplay sucks compared to ME2 but still,it has that something, maybe the soundtrack...don't know.
ME2 changed the scheme that ME1 created.
I dont know...maybe because i am an amateur astronomer i like it more
but dont misunderstand me, ME2 is awesome, I love Mass Effect, all of them.

I would love to read your opinions.
Regards.

I really dislike the streamlining done in ME 2. I far prefered the customization depth of ME 1, and longer list of skills and talents. I liked the Mako and the mission layout better as well. That allowed you to plan out your attack and approach most missions with different options, instead of head on straight line all the time like ME 2 does it.

That said, almost everything else is better in ME 2, and it runs so much smoother. I don't know if I can say one is better than the other one, I just hope ME 3 finds a way to combine the best of both.

Has been discussed before, but I like ME1 more because of the story, atmosphere and the RPG elements were also a bit better.

Prefer ME2 as I can focus more on choices, characters and gameplay, which is greatly improved in ME2, then omni-gelling everything I'm not using, but I do prefer the story of 1. Both are some of my favourite games though.

Exactly, that's what i meant. The thing is, does that make one game better than the other?

Probably will be more like ME2, with some ME1 elements here and there. Mostly ME2 though.

Ya, the story in ME1, the detail that went into it was amazing. And i have to agree that ME1 is the better rpg. the gameplay in ME2 is much more appealing, but i miss the choices I had in ME1 (armor, weapons mods, etc...) If done right, a balanced mix of both, if not a little more ME1 aspects tipping the scale, would make for an ME3 to remember.

I prefered ME1

- Mako was good, we were able to explore the planets (no planet exploration in ME2... )

- Loading screens was good in ME1.. ok... slow lifts, but at least there was no retro' loading screens with some graphic elements moveing... in the lift it was possible to hear partners talk,.. hear galactic news and find missions to do... and .. AND move the camera angle to see Tali's..... beep.... ;)

- in ME1 the story was great and in ME2 absolutely poor. The idea was good, but why did they told us immediately WHO are the Collectors... :( really bad... that had to be the last information to know in the game... but ok, too late to blame.

- in ME 1 was possible to find different armours for different races and that was cool !!! in ME2 there was no armour customisation... that wasa bad (we all like armour and weapon customisation) !!!! (why did you took it away from ME2)?

- ME 1 had 1 big problem... the building areas were always the same. and in that, ME 2 was better, but without planet exploration, that was boring at the same way as ME1

- ME1 had no ammo clips.... (HOW can it be that in 2 years, this ammo system changed in the universe?????) That was minus 1000 points for ME2. (i know, kids like ammo clips... but this mad ME2 not a second chapter, but only another game...). FAILED in logic.

- No ex partner of ME1 were happy to see Sheppard again in ME2... (only Wrex was!!!!)... WHAT'S THAT !? That made me not like ME2 at all. FAILED in friendship.

- ME1 had the Cittadell !!! ME2 had some new enemy (Vorcha.... never heared in ME1 and non was in the codex... what an error...)

- ME1 had (i don't know the english name of the big planet worm)... they were every where... in ME2 they disappeared??? wow... sheppard destroyed all of them in the first chapter??? FAILED in logic.

I think, that ME2 had so many illocical failure that it cannot be better than the first. i have replayed ME1 for 3 times... but ME2 only once.

I hope ME3 will be again a GREAT story with a lot of RPG segments like the first... who cares if there is a lot to talk, or a lot to explore without shooting 1 time... if people want to shoot all the time, they should by other games.

From ME2 it can be taken the "research system" to use resources found on planets. That's the only decent thing in ME2 i liked.

But i know, the future in videogames are kids, so i think that ME3 will be much more shooter than the 2nd. And i have to accept it.

ciao

There's one released later on with Kotor, ME1 and ME2 as options, with ME2 in 1st and ME1 in last

I love both games and still enjoy the first one (even if some say that after ME2, ME1 is unplayable), but they are so surprisingly different, that it's almost hard to believe that they both are part of the same series.

ME2 is more action-oriented, and... I don't know, the only adjective that comes to my mind is "colorful". ME1 was more scientific, in ME2 biotic is almost a magic (just look at justicar or ardat-yakshi). ME2 is more like fantasy. I didn't like character-driven story, and some other things, on the other hand new powers and new locations are really cool, etc.

I hope ME3 to have the best parts of two previous games.

I had various friends, who won't bother of spamming these forums, who also think the game is not better or actually worse. Know one dude who haven't played ME1, but liked ME2 (but he shut up after some hours into the game - no wonder; also, it would be the best, if you haven't played ME1, indeed; but he still places stuff like KOTOR and other older stuff above this).

I'd say the improvements pretty much outweigh the overall gain to zero because of lack in other aspects. And after the initial few hours the novelty just wears off into a boring linear loop.

Someone else said "everything is a pipe run". The other complained about all the rest. I'd say both games have their points to hate. The second is probably intended as an experiment (that fails in a really cool explosion, lol), but people get mixed feelings. I wish I had less free time so that I stop thinking about visiting this damn place. Tired of the "most post - wins" ideology.

When people don't want to believe something any excuse will be made in order to dismiss the supporting evidence.

If you point at reviews they can be bought.
If you point to user reviews it was mouth breathing shooter fans.
If you point to polls it was the hype

etc, etc, etc,

Just look at the ME 2 GotY threads that have come up. Awards only matter if they support your argument. If they don't well, it was a bad year for gaming, X magazine can't be trusted, it was a user voted award, etc, etc, etc.
