lol, there is really a stereotype that says that?  First I've heard of it.

There's no stereotype about that specifically--I'd say rather, it's the stereotype that "smart girls" or "nerdy girls" are brunette.

While I was researching this further.  Can you call it research? *ahem* ^_^

It turns out this was part of a legitimate marketing strategy.  It turns out Leliana and Morrigan were designed based on two models and an exclusive was given to Maxim a mens magazine

Exclusive: The Girls of 'Dragon Age: Origins' - Maxim.com

So next question is any of the new DA2 charecters based on any real life models???  :?

Actually, not quite--their CGI faces were based off of those women. Their in-game faces were just made-up. I would say that the CC system is not detailed enough to make a real face, but...

Very true their faces were.  But thats something I never realised and I bet more then a few people didnt know either.  So now I am really curious to see if any models were used in the design for some of the DA2 girls.

I wouldn't think so, seeing how their faces differ across each new screenshot and video.

And I hope there are no real models out there who have a face similar to Merrill's, thank you.

Their faces in the Sacred Ashes trailer, only. I assume Isabela in the Destiny trailer was modeled after Salma Hayek. And Hawke after every brown haired guy with a beard ever.

Hey don't insult Merrill,  she already has a huge "cute as a button" fan base :P

But I think your right, we have seen their faces develop quite a lot for DA2.  I think all this stuff was an attempt to market to the male audience for DA:O and get them interested.  Shame the graphics dont quite live up to the attempt ^_^

I prefer a Male Underwear Advertising Campaign, myself.

As would I. It's about bloody time I had something to ungh over, dammit. Image IPB *pictures a spiky white-haired, slender male underwear model with elven ears and lyrium-infused tattoos drawn across 98% of his body as he poses seductively for the camera* ... I'll be in my bunk.

for starters if they really wanted to go DAO-esque, lose the shoes and the fishnet stockings, add more blood, messy hair, possibly a severed head for a prop.

Blood is not sexy. :| But I concur that this is definitely more ****cat Dolls than DA:O.

Image IPB

disagree. i really love this picture and thought the blood was tastefully done. you can have something similar only with a more medevil feel to it.

I didn't even read what was written, but glanced at the picture, and my very first that was "eugh". I don't get queasy at the sight of blood, but it's definitely not attractive.

Uh..hopefully never. I'd like a game that doesn't have to resort to that as advertisement.

Or at least I hope if they do, they have hot guys walking around in next to nothing.

Back in the 80's both the guys and the girls would wield swords naked for ads

*busts through the screen with a copy of Rogue in his hand*

The fact that the blood almost completely below the waist and mostly concentrated under and between her legs.... no, it's not tasteful at all. It brings up awful images of, well, yeah. She looks like she had an accident removing her divacup.

Also, that advertising campaign for DAO? Embarrassing as hell tbh.

And they have to look like men in-game. The Bannhammer, Alistair, Anders, Nathaniel, Oghren, Loghain, Sten, Zevran, Fenris, Sebastian, Varric....

That'd be some sweet marketing. ;)

It actually starts at her neck and drips down, but i have to admit i didn't think of that until you told me and i find it hilarious

But this another example of how blood could be used...

I mean besides the fact that she is licking the blood off making look overtly sexual <_< If she just had more of a "I'm gonna kick your ass" face instead of "i'm going to make it look like i want to suck ****", this could be another example of how you could model blood :) Also similar to this pic as well, with just a little on her face and sword, though I know this is a digital pic and not an actual girl. Personally I think THIS would have been a better model, besides her really weird bra, blood or no.

Conan the barbarian was epic, grand work of art and is a classic. Conan the destroyer spoils the image and soils the good name...

Ah, for once I would like to see "girls of gaming" done right. It can be done. But you gotta move your head and have a good idea and a concept first...not ****** & ass in mind.

Speaking of so called (and called out for) dignity. A laughable matter tbh. What are they, slaves? Working and humiliated for free? No. A conscious decision.

This is kind of embarrassing, but I bet it worked in selling some copies. As for the girls doing it, it's their choice and they probably made some decent cash.

As for the 'models don't work hard': hah, no. They do. I've been on shoots that lasted across days (as a make up artist/wardrobe assist.). It's not as easy as sitting there for half an hour while some guy takes some pictures and then you toddle off home. You really can't compare it like 'I bet they don't work as hard as the photographer!'. It's too different. Every one works hard.

I'm a desk jockey with a bachelor degree, and I can tell you modelling is some of the hardest work I've ever done - hard in a factory line sort of way, where you don't necessarily have to bash your brain a lot, but it's still so, so tiring. Any of you who have worked behind the counter at McDonald's, or had a job screwing widgets into hoodickeys at a rate of 50 per hour... congratulations and welcome to the world of modelling.

If I had seen that advertising originally I would have been much more reluctant to buy the game. It definitely doesn't say "inclusive game with something for everyone", which is one of DA:O's selling points. Here's waiting for the Cosmo two-page spread.
