Engineer is one of my favorite class. But as a console player limited by 3 power buttons, I can't play it as dynamically as a PC player.
PC players have similar issues with the Engi. Adepts at least have Shockwave
My Engineer uses only 3 powers during most missions, Combat Drones, AI Hacking and Neural Shock (bonus power). On missions with only organic enemies, I remove AI Hacking and map Incinerate instead - Neural Shock is useless on synthetic only missions > Cryo Blast or Overload will take over.
On console you should be very close to what pc players can do without having to use the Power Wheel often (or at all).

I played through Insanity as an Engineer
Favorite Team: Grunt and Legion (Both meatshields, rarely fall)
Abilities Used: Attack Drone, Heavy Incinerate, Area Overload
Bonus Power: Heavy Warp Ammo
Bonus Weapon: AR training
I usually mainly sat in cover and lobbed fireballs at people. Or used Overload.
AI hacking is too situational.
Drone mainly as a distraction. Nice short cd

On my Engineers, I usually have Overload/Incinerate/Drone as my bread and butter. I'd love to use CB or NS, but I'd have to pause, or, replace Incinerate or Overload with CB/NS in my hotkey
Edit: Yeah, I guess I can specialize like you did with Drone/AI/NS, much more interesting build.

Allies Everywhere
- Using a combination of drones/hacking/dominate, have 10 units (including shepard and squad) fighting for 5 seconds for you, on the battlefield.

My Adept can already rock with just Warp/Pull/Singularity. Using Throw or a bonus power like Stasis is nice, but not as needed for me personally since they're all CC powers. Besides Drone, the Engineer's only real CC power is CB, so using it or NS in real time along with his defuffers is something I haven't done as much.

AI Hacking is the best CC power in ME2; hacking the right enemy can and usually will win the fight. I basically play Engineer like an Adept - Drone/Singularity; NS or CB/Pull or Throw; and AI Hacking/Warpbombs 2.0
Squadies are defense strippers; they strip, Engi Hacks > moves in using drones and NS/CB to deal with enemies who are not playing AI Hacking's ball > clean up.
I highly recommend giving AI Hacking - you'll be amazed what one (hacked) LOKI can do

It happens during this video (and gets Thane killed) in the second room, and I didn't even bother using it during the Geth Prime section at the end due to the fact that every time I've ever tried using it in that room the hacked geth just comes behind the glass to where my party is and stands there.
I like it when it works, but it can be really wonky some times.

Heh, yeah, I actually started that thread.

Engineer is becoming one of the my favourite classes -- along with vanguard and (shotgun) infiltrator.

I haven't had much luck with AI hacking. Sometimes it's useful, and I use it on Tali instead o her drone due to CD issues, but I've had a lot of times where I hack an enemy, there are PLENTY of enemies near it, and instead of engaging them in combat the damned thing comes back to where my party is and then just stands there until AI hacking wears off and then it's in perfect position to shoot my party.

You hacked the wrong enemy. Geth Troopers are not the goons you want to hack, they're smart enough to understand the cover-concept and yeah, they think you're an ally and reposition accordingly (hence the problem when effect wears off).
All mechs are fair game (LOKI, FENRIS and YMIR) they will always move towards the nearest enemy - perfect targets (they draw a lot of aggro). On Geth missions target Hunters and Destroyers, they use mech-tactics. Primes are most fun, but come in limited numbers. Rocket Troopers are also good targets, but I prefer a drone - love how those fools blow themselves up.

Engineers are insanely overpowered on Geth missions. AI Hacking Rank 4 (the single target version) is VERY worthwhile. If you can score a Geth Destroyer, hold onto him - those guys are devastating (with the short hacking cooldown, it's quite easy to refresh his shields and unlike normal mechs the takeover initialization time is extremely small).Bozorgmehr wrote...

Thanks for the tips, Bozorgmehr. I have experienced the same frustrations as sinosleep with AI Hacking, and had concluded it was an awful skill. I'll try it out some more on my next playthrough. I don't know if I'll be able to marry it to my playstyle effectively, but it could be fun to shake things up a bit.
