Is this not the most realistic outcome? Sovereign alone was damn near invincible. Now, imagine just two of Sovereign. Then imagine thousands. Even with the entire galaxy united, reaper tech is millions of years beyond everything else.

The only way for Shepard to have a chance at taking these monsters down is if he gets some outside help.... from Bioware. Yeah, in other words, Bioware has dumb the reapers down a bit. Sovereign was hardcore, taking on the Citadel and Alliance fleets simultaneously while fighting Shepard and his team. Even then, we almost lost.

So, just try to imagine a reaper fleet. You wouldn't a have a chance in hell of actually winning despite your numbers. How Bioware could fit this into cannon is pretty easy: the reapers are low on gas by the time they get to the Milky Way. Clever. Image IPB

A realistic ending would indeed be the complete and total annihilation of humans, turians, asari, the bunch. That may very well be one of the possible endings.

However... this is Bioware we are talking about. It'll be a scary ride, but ultimately we'll come out on top.

Please note that the sky's the limit on methods for destroying the reapers.

You could plant potent bombs in Earth's core, turning our home into an explosive that will kill the Reapers.

You could discover some alien tech that will help you kill them.

You could find a way to screw with their programming and turn them on each other, or deactivate them entirely.

You could parley with them, say "take the asari, and leave everyone else"

And so forth.

We don't know what kind of data we got from the collector base even if you destroyed it. The reapers are not perfect and can be killed. I have a feeling that either way ME2 ends we get that intel. There is always the weak but dependable virus solution. 99.9% will be vastly disappointed if that were to happen but you never know.

What would be the point of telling the story of the iteration of reaper invasion that ended just like all the others? [<------rhetorical question]

Having said that, I can accept that there'd be one ending where the Reapers actually succeed.

Spoiler

Their weakness is melee combat.

And water.

But will you have to really try to get that ending? In ME2, you have to actually try to get the bad ending.

That's why you need the base. We also have the thanix cannon technology and other reaper thech being developed by other races. we have the Quarian race and the geth fleets (wich are a lot, possibly near the numbers of the reapers). we have the Krogan numbers and breed speed. We have the Rachni's super developing numbers and ships.

With these odds Im gussing the Reapers are toasted.

You know what might just be capable of taking down a Reaper?
- Reaper weaponry.

You know what the Normandy SR-2 is equipped with?
- Reaper weaponry replicated by the turians. That is, the Thanix Cannon.

The Citadel races got lucky against Sovereign, and that bit of luck was their first step toward them being able to equip themselves with technology powerful enough to challenge the reapers.

A straight-forward attack probably won't do it. I'm guessing part of ME3's plot will involve uncovering the origin of the Reapers and using it that, somehow, to defeat them.

I'm so sick of this idea that the quarian flotilla amounts to any significant military power. Most of its ships are old, some dating from the Morning War itself, meaning they're over three hundred years old. They are held together with duct tape and super glue at this point, and constantly threatening to fail. That's why almost all quarians are experienced ship mechanics.

They'll work great as a distraction.

It would be interesting if our choices of who we destroyed and we let live will effect what civilizations join us.

I.E

Save Rachni Queen and convince krogan = Turians backing out

Or

Kill Rachni Queen, Krogans automatically join and Turians stay.

The turians can kiss my ass for all I care. the Rachni are more valuable then all of the (ex)council races combined.

Pretty much this.
Also:
Turians, asari and salarians should have their own reaper-party. Idea that they'll abandon their homeworld to save humanity sounds strange to me.
Krogans. What are people going to do with them? Make krogan-cannon and shoot them in Reapers?
The only real force that can do something is geth, but still it isn't enough to win.

What if only Harbinger and Sovereign are only "almost unbeatable models" while others are "just tough to beat but not impossible" models?

If you get what I mean.

Very doubtful actually. All reapers are the same as far as the evidence we have at this poit goes. No idea what the human Reaper was supposed to be though.

All those civilan old ships have guns and there's 50 000 of them! I think they have chance against Reapers.

None of them has dreadnought calibre guns, I'm not even talk about modern shields, armor and engines. So they don't have chance even against fifth fleet.
