Vast Improvement in Animation/Cinematics

One thing that jumped out at me while looking at some of the newest videos is the improvement in the animations. I think this is something that's easy to overlook as we're all used to movies, TV shows, and plays using human actors so when we see this sort of thing it doesn't look 'special' but 'normal.'

I'd like to point out a view things I noticed.

Characters interacting with objects:

Cassandra slamming the knife into the book. Varric opening it and running his fingers along the pages. Varric twirling a money bag around his finger, tossing it to Hawke, who catches it. The Grand Cleric pulls a piece of paper from the notice board and holds it up.

Compare this to DA:O where 80% of the time, object interaction was off screen. Alistair handed you a rose that you never saw. Brother Genetivi stood in front of the door and described what he was doing. You shived the prisoner in the gut but never saw it.

The one scene where we really see people interact with an object is the Joining, and the movements are much more wooden than what we see in DA 2.

Characters interacting with one another:

The sex scene.

Anyone remember the sex scenes in Origins? I'll show you a youtube of it if you don't remember.

It's not bad. It's not that great either.

Now the clip from the latest trailer:

Really good choice in how to show the cinematic improvements Maria

But it does show how much its come along and is probably the best way to show it.  Every action is far more fluid, it looks dynamic and is far more captivating! :)

And I have to say that this really looks much better than in DA:O..
And I love it! (And maybe even more because there is now a bed to..)

Hell yeah.

At first I was skeptical about the stylized look, but now I'm lovin' it. Add to that the animations and the framed-narrative structure, and I don't remember the last time I was this excited for a game.

Exactly. A vast improvement. In DA:0. the warden almost never interacted with anyone else, that you'd see, at least. Now with the constant body size for Hawke- there's no issue there anymore.

Origins's sex scenes probably took a hell of a lot of work to make the characters of different size fit together, and I can appreciate that, but the result is still... a titch awkward, let's say. And it doesn't help that after that 30 second montage is over, it feels as if nothing has changed, same music, same old story. If this was my playthrough, I'd probably run off next to try to get Zev or Lel. In DA2, things will be different, I believe.

Not to mention Bethany's animated hair at 4:07.... It was epic, I really love the new animations, if you could make a quick animated GIF between 4:06 and 4:09 it really shows Bethany's hair moving :D

The facial expressions are certainly working much better than they did in DA:O.

Yep, not to mention that he's moving around while talking- it looks custom designed, not just a generic conversation movement. This was also highlighted in the Sebastian video- while talking to the Grand Cleric about his "duty" and such, his movement is very dynamic. Looks great.

Or... it means those are two different scenes edited together to seem like one. Likely? Who knows? But I would imagine a romance over the course of ten years could have multiple scenes. Miranda & Shep had some interaction before the final romance scene, not to this extent, granted.

@Sylvius the Mad: You ignored all the good stuff in the thread and concentrated on a little error which I'm sure will be fixed in the final release if the scenes prove to be consecutive at all.... just have some positivity guys!

They don't show the money shots in previews.

or that the scene was cut into select parts instead of spoiling the whole sequence.

Never pushed them onto a bed while kissing fully clothed and armed. On my list though.

I don't mean to imply anything with this, but you should note that kissing someone, and pushing them onto a bed and then slowly undressing (maybe even undressing eachother) isn't that uncommon.

It mostly has to do with impulsive acts of sexual relations, you know, the best kind ;)

There you go, your reason to buy the game or something you can add to the wish list for your gal and yourself.

That doesn't stop it from being a continuity error in this specific clip.

I agree. The close-up with Aveline crying was SO good and realistic.
