If a game needs MP to win GotY then I guess I'll have to stop buying GotY games.

Here's what I think of that.

Edited to mention that I'm aware that geth wouldn't technically *have* excrement, but it just sounded amusing to me.

I don't give a flying pile of geth excrement if it wins GotY or not. *We* know it kicks a**, so who cares? If the only way to win the award is to go MP and detract from the SP experience (which is always what happens IME), then that award is ridiculous.

i think they have white blood so mabye a little excrement
But yeah you dont need to tell me that I know its true, pretty much everybody who visits these boards knows that.. there was just a ton of talk around what last month? about adding it to push a bioware game to goty, which is the only reason i could even fathom them entertaining that idea and it makes my guts churn thinking about such a horror.

Co-op for ME3 is viable and could be an interesting twist if they upped the difficulty enough a la Halo:Reach. This could be campaign co-op or a Firefight/Zombies type scenario where you play a survival game, either one would work.
Ill throw this out there too... I played Assassin's Creed I & II but haven't picked up Brotherhood yet. Still, all the reviews I have read noted that while everyone was iffy about how AC would fit with MP but that they pulled it off rather well. If the dev team is creative enough they might surprise us. Keep in mind they are already adapting KOTOR, a SP game with basically the same combat system as ME, to what looks like a decent MMO. I have enough faith in Bioware that if they include MP they will find a way to make it good.
I agree with others though, if they sacrifice anything out of the campaign for the MP it won't be worth it. That seems to be the way of the last few CoD games and its enough to make me never want to buy another one of their titles.

A stand alone MMO like KOTOR is nothing like a Shooter with MP tacked on. Turned based play is much different than what is going on these days in the MP universe. And again there are TONS of MP games out there. . .
And no matter how anyone cuts it. . the cost of it will always get passed to the BUYER and I rather see as much of the costs go to the story. I can't tell you how many game's stories have been cut back and suffered over the years with issues surrounding the MP tacked on the final product. And there are a number of titles that have already been posted in this thread by others. If they want to sell it as a stand alone like Valve did with Counter Strike. . then fine. But asking me to pay for that crap in one big package and conning me it didn't or will not effect the story when I can obviously see that it did just annoys the hell out of me. I much rather they spent their time getting the story right, and getting rid of as many bugs as possible before release. Too many titles in this industry these days are getting out with some major bugs. . . Starwars Force Unleashed 2? anyone anyone?? and I'm sure there are others out there as well.

Lack of multiplayer did not seem to prevent ME2 from winning multiple GoTY awards. Just throwing that out there.

I think mechanically it'd work fine if Bioware did it right. class setups with different biotics/tech? Sure, why not? I'd like it. As long as it didn't detract from the singleplayer.

Red
Dead Redemption had MP and it was pretty long (20 to 30 hours?). It
seems more likely that the MP will be the lack-luster part, as Bioware
hasn't done much of it in the past. A series of co-op missions like
those in RDR could be pretty rockin'.
I agree, though, that any MP
shouldn't come at the expense of single-player. I just don't see that
happening with a Bioware game, though.
Red Dead
Redemption was also in development for 4 years, had a team that's been
building those exact kinds of games for more than a decade, and
astronomical resources at thier call, because every Rockstar game sells
10-15 million units. It can be done, but RDR is the exception to the
rule.
The entire Mass Effect trilogy probably won't
sell much more than half of what a typical Rockstar open world game
sells, so Bioware won't get unlimted resources, they don't have an
experienced crew of multiplayer devs, and from start to finish ME 3 is
already looking to be a little short on time in the oven for games of
it's genre, at probably around 22 months from start to finish. If
thier putting any effort into MP, it's just hard not to be worried about
it taking away from the SP.
And...........

The realist says, "Bioware should stick to what they do best, and fans should not expect a miracle from them."
Fair enough. There just seems to be so much ignorance in the gaming community regarding what game development actually entails.
I
hate how EA frequently seems to be feature-driven as opposed to
quality-driven. [caps]Every game does not need multiplayer to perform
well! If you want to put multiplayer in a game, you'd better damn well
make it a competitive and important feature rather than just a
money-wasting tack-on.[/caps]

I feel like the Mass Effect universe could support multilayer. There are so many places Bioware could go with it. The First Contact War, Krogan/Salarian/Rachni confrontations, etc.

I agree that the Mass Effect UNIVERSE could support multiplayer.....just not ME3. ME3 is the conclusion to Shepards single player story. I would not mind seeing a massive multiplayer ME title in 2012 that does NOT involve Shepard.

Just so everyone knows, MP is in ME3 (confirmed when BW deleted the leak thread without any kind of reply) and this poll won't do anything. I know it's just to get peoples opinions, but just in case people think this poll will actually take MP out of ME3, expect a broken heart.
Haven't been on for a solid month; can you elaborate please?

Not that it matters, we will complain about it but still purchase it, it's a trilogy and I doubt anyone here wants to miss the last part.Gibb_Shepard wrote...

Anyways, this whole "leaked thread" issue could simply be a poor choice of words. I don't want to quote/post inappropriate or rule-breaking content, but one of Chris' statements could be interpreted as "don't confirm or deny rumors unless the public has access to such information". However, I will admit that Chris' emphasis on the typical ME/ME2 thread-closer compared to ME3 is worrisome to say the least.
On a somewhat unrelated note, if (yes, if) MP is included in ME3 why the sudden push for MP? Didn't ME2 win a staggering amounts of GOTY awards/perfect scores from multiple reviewers? I guess I'm hinting at a "if its not broke don't fix it" approach on the current situation.

I won't buy the game if it has MP. I don't buy any other MP games, so I have no reason to start now. It'll be sad, but hey, it's just a game.
EDIT: OKay, I'll buy it if the MP element comes on a separate disc I can then use to cut carrots, throw away or burn, but is not required to play the SP game. Also, I want the ME3 SP game to be longer, have more detail and dialogue than ME2. Then I'll gladly buy it.
