I was genuinely trying to be gender neutral cos I definately didnt know which sex you were; and frankly didnt care lol. Your a sometimes insightful, usually respectful, bioware forumite to me.

About Merrill one last thing.

There has been a lot of "omg Merill is totally a companion" for months now. The Magazine could have merely picked up on that, see the pic of Merrill and added two and two together to equal 5 for all we know so far.

That looks like a fan thread like a kajillion of other fan threads basically asking for such and such to be a companion in DA2 - Nathaniel, Anders, etc etc.
Nowhere does anyone actually say in that thead that Merrill is a companion, or an LI; she isnt on the main, and I cant see any Bioware announcements to that effect anywhere else on this bioware sites.
They talk about her as a character in the game that has a relatively large part - a major chracter. But she could just be an NPC for all it appears - to me at least.
And as much you might respect Maria Caliban - and as much as he/she might wish it - he/she isnt a Bioware Employee and a fanthread created by that person doesnt actually count as an announcement.
And David Gaider mentions something about this all being speculation in that thread.

So thats what I am taking that as. Pure speculation.

Until I see something official and definitive I am still going to err on the side of caution on this one. That way I save myself dissapointment if all the hype about "omg super cute merrill" ends up meaning nothing, because of her potentially being a plot device or quest giver.

What? We have footage, the developers are talking about her, we see her listed with the other companions, and a
pretty heavy hint in the new dev diary that she's a LI.

Fenris wasn't announced right away, either, in an official capacity. Nor was Aveline. They don't announce things right away.

I am not saying that Merrill wont be a companion just that it hasnt actually been officially announced yet; and because of that there is no reason to assume she will definately be.
Like I said the posts I have seen from the Devs about her have talked about her as a major character but not necessarily an NPC companion; the magazine could easily be explained away as them seeing the screenies of her (or whatever - the screenies could be a fake (fake screenies and trailers pop up for things like this ALL the time) for all we know) and making a presumption based on all the fan hype surrounding her.

A case could be made for or against either, based on existing evidence.

I freely admit that it is looking more and more likely that she will be... in which cause if she IS a companion then all I hope is that they adequately explain the departure from the established dalish xenophobic mindset.
After all Hawke will be ruler of a human city - not a respected grey warden. The Dalish would have every reason to hate and mistrust him and none to like or respect him.

I was merely saying that it hasnt actually be confirmed yet. Dont talk about it like it has.

Clearly you havent actually been reading I have been saying so I actually point blank refuse to respond other than to point out that you didnt read it.
If you read what I have been saying and realise what I have been doing (playing devils advocate) and wish to respond intelligently to discuss it then please pm me; if not then please dont derail the topic further.

Can I just ask while I am on the topic why so many folks hate Carver?

I like him... hes kinda adorable in a simple sort of way.
