Pregnancy?

This was touched upon very briefly in another topic, so I figured I'd create another thread where we could focus on it!

How do you all feel about a possibility of seeing pregnancy in BioWare RPGs? Would you be indifferent about it? Would you like to be able to get your female LIs pregnant if you're playing a male (and having blue children as FemShep in ME I guess)? How about FemHawke and FemShep getting pregnant?

Discuss =)

(note: in case somebody thinks pregnancy has been confirmed in DA2 due to this thread, it hasn't, I'm merely curious to see people's feelings on the matter whether it's in the game or not)

I don't know how I'd feel about it. I'm not sure if it could be handled in a way that isn't completely trivial, and it's a rather important issue for Hawke's life.

I imagine it would be completely optional. Your mom could take care of it. And it would present interesting new angles (have a child by two mages is dangerous, and quite the risk, coupled with a possible Chantry-Mage conflict), having a half-elven (even if they look human) child as the heir to the Amell estate, not to mention the various risks that go on with having kids and being an adventurer.

In Baldur's Gate 2 - a BioWare RPG, you could get one of your L.I.'s (I can't remember her name for the life of me, it was one of the elves) pregnant by the expansion. I thought it was pretty heavy stuff at the time. I think BioWare could do it in a game again, but it would really depend on the material and context at the time. It has to make sense, I feel for it to make the largest impact.

I mean, in terms of the liklihood that child is also a mage. Suddenly there's a new risk if your seek to support the Chantry--your child being taken away.

Yeah, I love that romance. Was always jealous as crap that the female LIs got all the love in BG2. I wanted to get pregnant too, darnit! =D

It could work in DA2 with the time-jumps and all. It was a bit redicilous in BG2 where Arie basically popped one out in a few weeks during the adventure.

In a plot that spans 10 years I could see Bioware making it work.

That's the name, thanks. Yes I did notice the similarities between the two characters - they both seem to have a very innocent and naive vibe going on. That may be off base slightly since we know very little about Merril to begin with, but that's just my impression.

There's timeskips, one would assume FemHawke's pregancy would occur in one of these.

it's an idea that has potential and if done right it can give the player an experience he/she is not used to having in this type of games. if done wrong you get fable though i really hate to use that example because i don't think fable has capitalized on the potential of this concept at all among other concepts.

closing statements: i think it's a great concept and that it has quite a bit of potential but execution is key.

  Yep.  Aerie.

And that one had the single most deliciously evil dialogue choice *ever*.  When she initiates the love talk to tell you she's pregnant, you had the option to say:  "that's great.  Take a hike, Mommy"

By the way, we really don't have to go all the way back to Bg2, here.   In DA:O you could get Morrigan pregnant, remember?  Although the game  ends  shortly thereafter.

Will the timeskip last as long as a 40 week pregnancy ?

The first timeskip is an entire year isn't it?

in the dev diary video we hear varric stating a timeskip of a year in kirkwall to settle debts with mercenaries.

i reckon one of the time skips could incorporate the pregnancy.

Im gonna venture to say there will be no fem Hawke pregnancy in DA2, no proof, just have a feeling its not part of the plot. too much story for only a small female player side to see. too serious a thing to deal with and more loose ends down the road in like DA3 perhaps..

I imagine that's easily rectified.  The pregnancy would occur right before one of the "time jumps", then voila, when the game resumes at the new year, you Fem Hawke  has given birth, and hired a baby sitter to care for the kid while she's out killing darkspawn or whatever.

Ack.  Ninja'd

the other way around would be one of the female companions or npc to pass through the pregnancy and hawke as the father.
