PLOT HOLE
Closed his eyes and thought of Zevran, I'd assume.
That or a mage did it. Specifically, Morrigan.

Perhaps I'm just scarred by the memories, but the one thing I would never want to happen would be if DA II did have the option of Hawke being a father or mother, but the child would be little more than an NPC. And, truthfully, I think without any sort of emotional attachment to one's own child, the prospect of even having children in the game DA II, becomes somewhat pointless.
A small proclamation at the end of the game that seems to allude to either FHawke or MHawke's LI's pregnancy would also be a lovely addition.

Well.. yeah. A prolonged realtionship with one partner is usually about having children and living mature life and everything. In Bioware games (exept BG) it's usually is't so complicated than "getting that chick in bed", basically like a dating sim. Anyway, you pointed that by yourself better than me - it's a huge impact to the plot, that is, so no kids for you :3
I'm okay about things being optional in games but if they brought in the possibility of pregnancy without any option of contraception I'd be seriously annoyed. My character would end up being celibate until the discovery of a magical prophylactic or the invention of latex.
I'm also not keen on epilogues that make the assumption that if you had a long term relationship with a character then you automatically settled down and had a family.

Where in the world is it mentioned that two mages producing a baby makes an even more dangerous mage? Not that mages are any more dangerous than anything else for that matter.Saibh wrote...

@Saibh: A child by 2 mages is dangerous?
I mean, in terms of the liklihood that child is also a mage. Suddenly there's a new risk if your seek to support the Chantry--your child being taken away.
ex. Loghain had no magical capabilities, yet he was able to kill off an entire army and his own king >:[

O.K. I'm going to sound a little rudehere but correct me if I'm wrong but we can give Morrigan a child to save our ass but we can't give our P.C. the opption now your all steriotyping your basiclly saying Morrigan would make a better parent thanour P.C. I say cudos to Bioware if they do why should Morrigan be the exception to the rule? and if we don't then i'M GLAD i WENT INTO WHICH HUNT AND KILLED HER B ECAUSE SHE WAS AN APOSTATE THAT WOULD OF HARMED THE CHILD MENTALLY AND MENTAL ABOUSE IS JUST AS BAd as physical ab use and heres another thought it takes more than pretty looks and yellow eyes to raise a child and I can say this because I have 4 beutiful children and I would never leave any of them In the care of someone like Morrigan
Mr. Gaider didn't say Morrigan would be a better mother, he just said that if it should happen (pc baby), it would be an event or something to deal with the plot, otherwise if it were just something to happen willy-nilly, it could potentially put the player in a position to be a bad parent, and the devs don't like that idea.

Figured as much. They don't wanna spend budget for something optional so they can rush the game for release.
Are you serious? Maybe they just don't think a feature like that is appropriate for the game. Contrary to what a lot of lonely BioWare forum lurkers desire, neither dragon age or mass effect is a dating/marriage/parenting sim. They're both action rpgs that happen to include optional romances with party members.

Hawke: Sorry. . .lil'Hawke has colic. He's been crying non stop for 3 days. . .I can't get any sleep. And he doesn't seem to be getting better. Do you have an idea how it is to worry about. . .
Varric: Err. . .I'll be seeing you.
Like. . .seriously. What is wrong with some of you people. Why would you want to play an RPG where you have to do a child rearing minigame? What the hell kind of parent could you be to any type of child being an adventurer, having people come after you, having. . .
Aww, **** it. Senseless trying to talk. This is as bad as the romances crap that plagues the forum. For the love of god sign up to Okcupid or something, because it isn't exactly hard to have children in real life if you want to see how that is.

That's the reason, I'm not bothered whether DA2 has pregnancy or not, but if it does it has the potential to create a deep desperate situation, why people think "happy families" whenever pregnancy is mentioned I will never know, unless your own family life was perfectly happy throughout, a father won't let his teenage daughter stay out late, it's not because he is a tyrant, it's because he is fearful of what might happen to her.VampireCommando wrote...
If you wanna have a child in a fantasy game then go play fable, he'll I'm not even sure that classes as a fantasy game any more. But for the love of god why would you want in in DA, DA is a mature, violent and some times nasty fantasy game, why bring 'happy families' into it and ruin it, not to mention it's just plain creepy.
There is the potential in game to place the character in a weakened state, carrying the child around you see trouble ahead, your first responcibilty is the safety of the child, I know this does not bode well with those who just want to draw their sword and start hacking n slashing everything in sight, other things like kidnap come into play where your character has to rescue the child safely.
It's not about "happy familes" it's about having deeper meaning to win the fight.

I think I would like the option to be an aunt/uncle more than a parent in DA2. That would make more sense to me. It would also make it easier to give the kid a real personality and story of its own...
This, it might be vaguely cool if Carver or Bethany had a kid in a time jump which you could be uncle/aunt to, but I'm glad they're leaving that sort of stuff out for Hawke

Everyone keeps trying to say it is such a minor thing, no big deal, totally optional. But having a kid is not a minor thing, it IS a big deal, it does have a huge impact, and if you add it in it can't really be optional because of that impact. Then we are forced into a scenario a lot of people really do not want to deal with in a game.
Things in games usually aren't "big things" even if they are big things in real life...
For example - killing somone in RL would be a big thing - In games you wade trough hordes of people you kill.
Pick your example, there are amny.
I really don't see why everything SHOULD be a big thing.
Not that I dont' see your point. I don't want things inculded just for the sake of being included..I want ti done right. However, what does "done right" mean....that's a thing we can debate till the stars die out.

THIS
If watching Maury has taught me anything its that having kids does NOT automatically = a more mature relationship. I'm childfree too and I would be so mad if I can't have a romance without epilogue kids as a result. As long as the choice is there that's fine. I can't tell you how HAPPY I was when I first found out that grey wardens were practically sterile, especially in a fantasy world where a rubber doesn't exist
