I think you underestimate a father's ability to care. My ex-bf became a father early last year, and to sum up a long and tragic story I'll just say he has loved that kid and always cared for it, while the mother is the worst parent I could ever imagine =\\Milana_Saros wrote...
Yes the child can be several years old after a time shift but even so, FemHawke's relationship towards her child would be completely different than MaleHawke's. Have you ever heard the term "mother tiger"?
Obsession? =S I've never even played a game where my character got pregnant at all, and the only game I know of that has it is Fable, which has a horrible reputation of how it's pulled off. But... I guess my thread here might not have been the first of its kind and that's what you're thinking about ^^;AmyBA wrote...
I am really starting to think I am the only female fan of Bioware games who hates the idea of the PCs getting pregnant, having babies, being parents, etc, whatever else.
I don't want to in real life, I don't want to in game. I don't get what is up with the baby obsession these days, its a bit scary...
Depends what game it's all done in. Yes, including pregnancy in ME1 and ME2 would've been mad hard, but whether Shepard has kids in ME3 or not doesn't have to be of any consequence. BioWare just won't ever go out and mention "Shepard died with no kids" or "This new character's grandma was Commander Shepard". Grissom for instance is an important part of the galactic plotline, but had we not met Kahlee in the Mass Effect books then we would not have known he had children. Same could be said for lots of characters in any race that ever made a difference.AmyBA wrote...
It still fits with why it makes it hard to make it an optional decsion, the impact on story is rather large, more so than just who you are sleeping with.
You now have future generations and much longer lasting influences from your character in the world.
Thanks for the laugh! Now everyone in class thinks I'm a freak who thinks mathematical equations are the funniest thing ever (either that or they're catching on to my slacking in class =S)...The Lesser Evil wrote...
This whole pregnancy issue was so much simpler when it involved a Grey Warden, a Witch of the Wilds, a magical ritual, an archdemon and the soul of an old God.

To you maybe. but Biowae will not have a shallow pragnancy just to have it and I can tell you that it wont help in telling their story of the champion of Kirkwall. Just think about it long enough as a Bioware a game and not Fable or something and it seems obviousGodWood wrote...

oh well if you are commenting and joking between the diff between males and females and the birds and the bees then yes.. I had the same "point" but it just leads us back to sexism talk eventuallyGodWood wrote...

Even if pregnancy is a possibility, don't expect that you'll get to raise/know the child. It will most likely be handled like it was with Aerie and Morrigan (a female Hawke or LI becomes pregnant in the last chapter, the birth of the child is only mentioned in the Epilogue text).

This is the only way it makes any sense to do. All other ways are subject to way too much critisism or would just plain be out of place.

Agreed.
But it seems that arguing about this is a waste of time and only results in overserious talk about sexism (which in itself is a reason not to have this feature). I don't think family mini-games should have a place in RPGs like this. And if they do start having them, well, as I said: I'll simply not buy it. End of story for me.

A pregnant woman simply cannot do things she could do if she were not walking like a penguin, there is a very real toll on a woman's body, and especially in the time period we are dealing with, death is a REAL possibilty in all births

Don't take this wrong, but this made me laugh. I just imagined Fem!Hawke struggling through 9 months of pregnancy (without a time skip), only for her to die in child birth, forcing the player to play through all that time again.
I'm a horrible person.

How would it be optional unless they included a Fablesque "Would you like to have protected or unprotected sex" line? Or are they going to play lullabye music if your night in the tent was "successful"?

how about dialog options with the loved one? nah, that'd be too obvious.
