It wouldn't really be fair to let M-Hawke knock someone up, and not let F-Hawke GET knocked up. So if it does happen, it would have to happen for both, or neither.

Agreed. I do like the idea of the pregnancy and It could happen if you did the ritual with Morrigan, so it's not as if DA hasn't touched upon that topic, but if they do it, it has to be both or neither~ :?

I still think the ten-years span would have made it possible to include children. Just because Hawke don't have time to change diapers when we see her/him. Hawke could be a great parent in years between. Besides important people in the medieval times usually had both nannies and tutors to help them raise their children. Kings and queens still had to do their jobs even if they had children. It's not very different from people leaving their children at day-care centers when they are at work

Actually, even if I had the budget I'm not sure I would include players with young children.

Why? Because I don't want to potentially force the player into the position of being a bad parent. The only way to do it justice would be to make it a major plot element-- not to make it a throwaway item in Aerie's backpack. I'm not really interested in that.

You can cynically dismiss everything as being ruled by budgets and timetables if you wish, but just because something could be an option and players might have a theoretical desire for that option doesn't necessarily make it a good idea.

Thank you!

And so is the Fable one. People are not suggesting nappy-changing mini-games and special pregnancy items, but a meaningful and interesting plot line, which could shape the story in whole.

Which is WHY it is a bad idea. Because to make it mean anything it would have to be a pretty major focus for at least a portion of the game, which although may be interesting to some, is not the main attraction of an action/adventure RPG.

A side note, people having a different opinion than you are not automatically trolls or annoying people just because you don't like their opinion on the matter.

The Sims argument is getting redundant.

If I wanted to play a game where I customized my character's face, I'd play the Sims.
If I wanted to play a game where I invested in my house, I'd play the Sims.
If I wanted to play a game where I had romances, I'd play the Sims.
If I wanted to play a game where I had children, I'd play the Sims.
If I wanted to play a game where I stayed in the same location, I'd play the Sims.
If I wanted to play a game where I had a career, I'd play the Sims.
If I wanted to play a game where I wasted my time making friendships, I'd play the Sims.

Is that all of them?

I do not mind people disagreeing, it is the "lol pregnancy" or "x is so Sims/Fable" posts that these threads attract.

Suggestions for casual clothes and the issues people had with companion outfits also attracted Sims-spam.

I would love casual clothes!! It always irked me to see my plate wearers standing in front of the fire in full plate, including the helmet.   Inventing the oven? not sure... Casual clothes is a good idea! - when in camp/base for sure! Making something logical is not necessarily sims, surely?  Anyway, I support that idea! :)

The sims can be a fun game to play. But it never makes you care about you anything(I know, I drowned several of them in the pool) But when things like relationships, friendship (and children) are brought into a game like DA it makes me care. Even if the orgins were short they made me care a great deal my murdered family in human-noble, and my sister in dwarf commoner, and it made me hate my brother in dwarf noble. And I felt truly sad when Alistair broke up with my PC when I made him king. Those things you don't feel playing the sims

Why are the cynics on the forums so much? Are they cynics with everything else or just games?

The DA romances are written within the context of the story.

Both characters are aware that they are part of an adventuring party on a dangerous important quest.  That situation shapes and affects the nature of the relationship.

I don't think it is simple to just write in a pregnancy and children into the story.

In a plot that spans 10 years I could see Bioware making it work.

I agree. I think it's the only way it can work. Having Aerie preggers in the middle of an epic-level adventure just didn't work for me, such that on all subsequent Throne of Bhaal playthroughs I didn't romance her.

The devs also mentioned Hawke having family in the last Diary. I know they meant Hawke's mother and siblings, but I think they might have been hinting at the possibility of Mini-Hawkes, too.

I'd love the option to have kids in DA2. That would be awesome. And kind of necessary, given the whole heirs thing. My baby-Hawke can run of with Morrigan's OGB and populate Thedas with my descendants. Whoopee!

Yeah that makes more sense to me than the other arguments here. I at least wouldn't mind that possibility for my Lady Hawke at the epilogue of the game?

Okay, to make this short:

Could we do player pregnancy? Sure.

Did we? No. Child-rearing is not one of the adventures you will embark upon.

I kinda understand that.

I'm curious though. My thoughts when I created this topic wasn't to see a child actually being born and raising them. It was about pregnancy, nothing else. In other words, mostly I was just looking for a scene akin to (using Origins characters to draw the scene) me telling Alistair "darling... I think I'm pregnant =O" and him getting all confused but ultimately happy about it. Then perhaps a few lines in later conversations how I must be careful so we don't hurt our baby.

Do you think, personally, that such a scenario would be more fitting? I know no reply you give will even remotely mean anything about whether something such as this will make it into any future games at all for a multitude of reasons, I'm mostly just curious about your personal feelings as someone who has written for great games =)

Wait.... waaait a minute. You're the guy who... I... didn't harden Alistair... and... the arch demon...................

You're so evil... ='(
