Funny how the people against it never give any reason why they don't want it.

Could that be because there's no reason to be against it?

Since if you don't want multiplayer you simply stick to playing single player.

Could anyone explain to me how multiplayer could interfere with single player, since i'm probably to stupid to see it.

Indeed, you are.

Nobody is saying multiplayer could interfere with single player. They're saying it's not possible because the engine is not designed to support it.

Plain and simple. End of the story.

The basic idea is that the "zots" (i.e., resources) required to make a game fit for multiplayer would take away from the zots devoted to crafting a high-quality singleplayer adventure. Also, Bioware has stated that it is nigh-impossible to create a truly gripping and immersive singleplayer adventure that allows for multiple player characters.

However... Bioware themselves did this twice with the Baldur's Gate games. In each, one of the players was the "primary" character and the others were simply part of the supporting cast. It wasn't optimal, but it gave folks who like to game with spouses, family members, girl/boyfriends a way to play the game together. My S.O. and I played through both of the Baldur's Gate games that way and had a total blast.

Now, that's not to play down the QA/testing quagmire that introducing multiplayer can do to a large-scale project, as the game needs to essentially be run through two complete QA cycles: once in singleplayer and once in multiplayer. That does require zots and hence, from a strictly economical standpoint, is a valid reason to leave multiplayer out.

Although modding multiplayer in would probably be a monumental cluster$&#@ that is best avoided, there's no reason Bioware couldn't rewrite game code as part of a full-scale expansion (or sequel). If enough people request this "feature" it will find its way into the game.

I say yes, but only for one reason.

So we don't have to see any more threads like this. FFS.

The threads you would see if this game supported MP would be infinitely more annoying.

What about all the complaints that would be leveled at Bioware for providing such a crappy MP experience if a modder did it, since  as I've already pointed out the UI is not designed for supporting MP. Also, do you know how Single Player games that have a Multiplayer component really work in Single Player mode? I've talked to a team of software developers that work on the NWNX project, and they could tell you in much more detail tahn I can, but in fairly simple terms NWN and NWN2 share code between the client interface and the server component, meaning that even the "single player" game is actually using a server integrated into the game client.

Yet Bioware stated they wouldn't add, rewrite, redo, summon the multiplayer gods or slay singleplayer chickens in order to make Multiplayer happen.

Just stop beating the horse man, it's not moving anymore; it's dead.

Or is it?

During an interview with VideoGamer, BioWare head honcho Ray Muzyka has said that cooperative gameplay may be an option for future Mass Effect or Dragon Age titles.
“Sure, we would consider it. We haven’t announced anything on that
front yet, but those are interesting ideas. They could make a great
gameplay experience. Whether we’ll do them or not remains to be decided.
“We’ve done it, and we’re doing it again now in Star Wars: The Old Republic. But it is challenging,” he added.
The second game in the Mass Effect series hits store shelves this January for Xbox 360 and PC.
