Anyone made a mod so that the 3d model of Starfang looks more like the icon in the inventory and Yusaris?

There are a heap of weapon mods - it's one of the most numerous categories. You could try something like Adonnay's Weapon Replacer. It changes the 1H Starfang and a whole lot more besides - here's a pic. And there are plenty more besides you could check out as well. If you find a model you like it's pretty straightforward to change the name to get it to replace Starfang.

Yeah I was looking at those earlier as I tried searching on DA Nexus, but I was just thinking of changing the Starfang model from the current one to Yusaris, but I'd also reckon that would require a bit of reskinning so you can have the texture look like Starfang.

Many thanks for replying!

That would be doable without much drama. There are only about 4 or 5 actual unique meshes for each weapon type - they just use tints to try and give the impression of variety. Depending on the differences between the two and how you wanted to approach it, you might want to redo the UV map first.

I'm not having any luck finding resources... but what if i just want to change the starfang model to the model used by Asala... i dont want the starfang mesh, just have it take on that model.

A quick look in DATool would suggest that Asala uses the model w_gsw_gs05a_0. All you need to do is extract the MMH and PHY and rename them appropriately. I don't know what the filename for the 2H Starfang is though. Maybe see if you can find a mod that replaces it - that should give you the necessary filename. I suspect it is probably variation 7 or 8.

Not sure exactly how i would go about doing this..

Alright i did save as... with the datool, so all i need to do is find out what starfang is named and just name these files after that and throw into override?

i dont need the dds files and the mao/msh?

The MMH references the existing vanilla MAO and MSH, so there's no need to extract those (or the textures, which the MAO references). All you need is the MMH and PHY.

The only thing you want to do besides changing the actual filenames is to open both files in the GFF editor (either the standalone one or using the toolset) and change the MMH filename references at the top of each.

would i just change the names of the files to
w_gsw_gs03a_0.mmh
w_gsw_gs03a_0.phy

(3 being the model used by starfang)
and then change
MMH_NAME
MMH_MODEL_HIERARCHY_MODEL_DATA_NAME

and

MMH_NAME (in the phy)

That didn't work... i guess Starfang is special

3 isn't the model variation being used by Starfang as that is an Origins model. It has to be above 6 (like I said, probably 7 or 8).

Didn't really understand what you meant at the time, but that worked perfectly, thanks!

So is the sword now the same model as Asala? what about the texture?

Assuming that the MAO reference in the MMH was left untouched as I suggested then yes, the texture should be the same as Asala. Remember that most non-DLC weapons and armour use tints rather than textures as their primary source of variation, so it may not look exactly the same as Asala even though it utilises the same texture set. It all depends on what tints are (or are not) specified in the respective UTIs.

Given that the images of the original on Wikia would indicate that it uses an emissive map, it may be worth specifying a custom MAO and including a custom emissive map that replicates the original, assuming that was of interest.

By the way, for future reference what did the model variation number turn out to be?

Starfang has the 7. I think in both, longsword (w_lsw_*) and greatsword (w_gsw_*) variations.
