Yes, pre-order items are a stupid gimic to try and force people to by the game at launch price (I'm looking at you CoD). That being said, for those of us who planned on buying the game at launch price to begin with, why not enjoy the extra stuff?
I cannot enjoy it. That stuff ruins my game experience.
So I never use it. And don't even want to have it.
If I want a powerfull uber-item, I'll mod it in myself...and it will be at the end of a very difficult dungeon. My Hawke will pay trough his nose to get it.
Okay.... I like the pre order items and I'm definetly going to use them, Though it's cool that you feel this way but theres no real point in complaining about something you never intended to use.. Besides the're giving it to you for free.. Whats to complain about?
Well, "complaining" (I prefer, in cases like this, to think of it as constructive criticism) can encourage companies to change their practices. That doesn't mean getting rid of these items, but it could mean implementing them differently. For example, instead of dropping them in characters' inventories, making them quest rewards or merchandise for purchase. Or, taking things further, giving out different kinds of DLC that might improve the ambience of the game without changing the game balance. There are a number of ways that Bioware could retain the model of promotional item DLC while also avoiding the issue of overpowered items. Of course, some people like getting advantages as boni in this manner, so it is not a clear cut issue. But constructive dialogue allows Bioware go gauge fan opinions and make plans for future games and/or expansion content.
Personally, I think that promotional and DLC reward items in DAO go to be too much - at this point new characters start out as walking arsenals. Of course they can be disabled, and I am excited for the content Bioware is offering, but I hope that in the future Bioware takes the opportunity to experiment a bit and take promo or reward DLC in new or different directions, perhaps integrating it better with the game. I am speaking in comparison to the DAO DLC, since I don't have the DA2 DLC yet obviously. The best integrated DAO DLC promo items were the Collector's Edition items and the Blood Dragon Armor just because you had to purchase most of the items from a merchant.
