We are very pleased to announce that Dragon Age II is now available for pre-order on STEAM

Customers who pre-order between now and launch will recieve the Lion of Orlais shield, the sword Fadeshear and access to the Black Emporium. You can read about these items HERE.

So for all of the Steam users who were hoping Dragon Age II would be on their favorite Digital Distribution system, you can now get DA II on STEAM. :)

I read it at Steam and wanted to know what this is..

The Black Emporium features:

- A magic item store that has some of the best equipment you’ll find in the game. It’s restocked with better items as you progress through the story.- A loyal mabari hound that fights at your side in battle.
-The “Mirror of Transformation”. Gaze into it and you can change your very appearance. Hair, eyes, tattoos, and more can be changed with the click of a button.- A crafting store which sells powerful unique recipes.- Explore the Black Emporium and uncover its strange secrets and lore. Be sure to see its strange proprietor. It should prove most… memorable.

No.

You missed out on the free companion DLC, four bonus items and the digital soundtrack. ;)

Nope, I knew this was coming.

Look at it this way:
Steam is the biggest market share on the PC. By not releasing the SE on Steam, they're going to make way more money.

The large majority of people aren't in the know, so they don't know about the SE and it's bonuses. They log on today, they see it's for preorder, normal DA2 that is, and they buy it. Then come launch they fork out the $7 for Sebastion without having a clue how hard they were ripped off.

It's a very underhanded tactic.

Then why did they release it to D2D and other services?

Hey Chris, why not sticky my post instead of creating a new one yourself? :)

Also, I thought you guys (EA+Bioware) were cool, but not giving us the chance of getting the signature edition is just lame. :(

Less, just 2 items, not the black emporium.

Why would someone pre-order a game from a DD platform? It's not like they're going to run out of copies.

How is that underhanded?  They;'re making something available for sale, and people can choose to buy it or not.  Where's the trick?

Even if there were a trick, I wouldn't mind, because I despise Steam and all it stands for, but I'm not seeing anything at all underhanded here.

You're not wed to Steam, you know.  You don't have to get everything through Steam.  It's not like it's an exclusive gaming platform and it's the only one you own (as much as it behaves as if it is).

You had a chance to get the SE.  Just not through Steam.

The way I see it, they were trying to lessen the amount of market share that Steam would get of this game; give some other venues a chance. They probably also make a larger profit with these other partners too. I really wish that it didn't feel like I was being punished for holding out for the Steam version though. That's...kind of a jerk move.

Because Steam is the biggest market share. Most people don't read blogs and forums about games, so they only know about DA2 preordering from where they see it. They log on Steam today, and they see that DA2 is up for preorder.

From there they buy it on impulse.

It's not "kind of" a jerk move, it's a blatant jerk move. I called this a few days ago in the thread where we were emailing PR. What's sad is they're going to get away with it.

I wonder how will dragonage II + mods work with steam ? Modding most steam games is terrible ;/

I've been teaching myself to mod in relic's dawn of war II from steam and it's really hard xD

Why?  I mean, I read your reasoning, I just don't understand it.

Sure, some people wouldn't have known about the SE if they only looked at Steam, I guess, but is that Bioware's fault?  Or even EA's?

This is like saying that, because Best Buy didn't have the game in stock, I was prevented from buying it.  I could have gone to Gamestop.

On windows 7 it is exactly the same as the hard copy.  XP was a different and yes, more complex thing but windows 7 = thumbs up.  (For DA:O i mean.  I HOPE this one allows mods) *drops to knees to pray*

I may get the STeam one for  myself then and let my husband have the pre-order with the Prince lol  I like keeping all my game files tidy and in one location. :)

Great news thanks!

The only other online store I buy stuff from is gog.com.
I don't want to spread my credit card to too many places, I don't want to create accounts to places I will rarely (if ever) use, I like the connectivity to Steam and to not have to use a disc (which would be the other way of getting it if I didn't want to create a new account).

I haven't pirated a game in 3 years and I've bought every game I've wanted through Steam (unless I could get a Steam key for cheaper somewhere else), so yes, I am a bit miffed about this.

I'll just wait 2 years until I give them my money I suppose, so I can get the complete edition.
