Read my posts. I'm not fighting for myself, I'm fighting for the people who aren't in the know. I know, it's absurd in this day and age. Someone who is CARING about other people? My god, I should have a movie and biography deal by now.

Okay, fine.

But if people heard about the SE, they could easily have found a place to purchase it.  If all they do is look at Steam to see what's being released, well, again, that's like walking into Best Buy to see what games are available, and complaining you didn't know about something because it was out of stock at BestBuy.

I'm sorry, but the information is readily available from a number of sources to learn that the game exists.

you know, there are people who live in places where there aren't game stores to preorder from and where other digital stores that would offer the deal are region locked, Steam being the exception

so, because of that, I'm not allowed to get the SE?

where?

Brazil here
but I would assume Latin America as a whole didnt get this offer

Actualy they did have the signature edition on ea online store. I'm also from Brazil and I pre-order from there,
which leads to my question, does the bonus from the signature edition are linked to your ea account? I mean, say if  latter on I buy the game from steam, do I get the dlc from the signature edition? i'm asking this because i just discovered that the ea online store has a policy of letting people download the game for only a year <_<... so I will probably buy the game from steam in a end of year sale or something...

that was my reason for not even considering EA Store..
anyway, I managed to get a pre-order through shopto.com at the last moment for the Signature Edition and would like to know the same as you.. will the DLC be linked to my EA Account or what? If that's the case, I can get the DLC for the SE and later on get the game on Steam

I would think so, as that's the case with DAO and ME2, but you never know...

Only for a year? That seems crazy. What if I need to reinstall the game on another computer? Or need to reformat my own now? Are you sure about this?

I believe there is a clause saying that they guarantee availability for a year.  That doesn't mean it gets taken away after that, but they can.  Most online retailers don't make any such guarantee of availability - check the terms of use.

Apologies if this qestion has been asked already...

I ordered the Signature edition and am wondering if I can tie it into Steam directly, like I do with the Football Manager games, so that it will be downloadable from Steam if I want to install it again in the future, or will I need to use the DVD everytime and manually keep the game updated?

Just wondering :)

Considering current DLC item for DA2 (Hindsight / Partalan) are linked to your bioware account same way than ME2 & DAO DLC, i would assume it's the same yeah.

Of course, you can never be 100% sure :P

DA 2 for the PC for $59.99? And it's a digital download? No disc, no manual, no physical manufacturing costs. Seems like I remember buying DA:O for the reasonable price of $49.99 for the PC (physical format). Sounds like a cash grab to me.

No thanks Bioware/EA. I'll just wait till it hits the bargin bin or find it for a reasonable price.

I suppose a lack of actual physical stores may be possible, but was the EAstore locked?  Again, I honestly don't know, as I don't purchase this way, and don't live in such an area.

It was for me. Impulse, D2D, EA Store... all three region locked. I did have Gametap.com as an option, which I actually took, although now I regret doing it (I'm actually cancelling the pre-order and going with Steam, even if I have to pay for the extra DLC).

As for physical copies, yes, I can order from Amazon, but between the shipping costs and local taxes over here, I'd end up paying more than twice what the game costs. So while it was an option... it was a VERY undesirable option. Not to mention that things usually get "lost in the mail" over here...

As has been said, this was a business move, (and mostly EA's move, not Bioware), but it still sucks.

Disappointing it (totally coincidentally! We swears it on the precious!) missed the SE window, but I'm glad I can get it through Steam now.

I'm really unhappy with the way that Bioware/EA have handled this :(

I'll be avoiding DA2 till it's released as DA2 Golden Deluxe Uber Ultra Ultimate Bargain Bucket Deluxe Edition with all the DLCs included. and on Steam.

Thanks anyways and I hope that piracy doesn't ruin your annual revenue too much!

Here, the note after the fourth question:
http://help.eastore....wnloading-games

That said,  the ea downloader does have the option of saving the install files of the games you download, so you can (and you should) make a backup copy of them on some physical media to reinstall later. I personaly dont like it because my external hd's tend to fail a lot.  Also you can download on more than one pc, the ea downloader works like steam in that regard.

Ps: sorry for the bad english, I dont realy write a lot.

If the story about the deal with Valve not being finalized in time is true wouldn't the most reasonable thing to do be letting people pre-order the Signature Edition from Steam for like a week or two? Its not like they have to print anymore special boxes or discs since its digital.

I would think so, as that's the case with DAO and ME2, but you never know...

I'm basing this on how they handled both DA and ME2: when you play the game you log in with your ea/bioware account, just like on this side, where you can add your keys from your purchase, so if you bought the game from somewhere else, you use the keys on that account. When you buy a game through Steam, you get the keys "loose", as in not connected to any account.
So if you really want to have it on Steam and get the signature edition contents you can buy it twice, or you cancel your standard order and only buy it on Steam, but then you will have to pay for the Signature edition contents as DLC.
No matter how you do, you will have to pay more if you want it on Steam.

No you cannot tie it to Steam to get the download option and autoupdate, the game needs to be shipped with something called Steamworks, which basically is cloud saves, achievements and other goodie stuff.
You can however start it through Steam by adding a shortcut (that way you will get the Steam overlay and access to friendslist, webbrowser, etc).

It'd be a sensible thing to do, no way EA would do that.

I mean it'd restore faith and even get me to buy the game now.

Said I was bowing out, but:

I've seen this a bunch already.

Why, exactly, should they do this?

To me, the only people who have any kind of a legitimate complaint are those for whom Steam is the only possible available seller - as in, for reasons beyond that persons control, other digital retailers do not allow purchases in their area (region lock I guess is the name of it) and for whom there are absolutely NO physical retailers or website delivery options.

I would think the number of people who meet that criteria are extremely small.

For anyone else, as I said before, while Steam may be your preferred option, it's not your only one, and you had a chance to buy the SE.

Well, why exactly shouldn't they do this?
It's fair traitment of all retailers, respect of gamer choice of shop, it would restore trust from disgruntled steam users... I mean, it's not like it's even a production cost of boxes or anything since it's digital !

Yeah I mean the people who will now buy it from Steam have to give EA extra 7$ if they buy the DLC I mean it's more money for them!

Who cares about customer happiness, just stomp 'em down and bleed them for all that they are worth. Few upset gamers are totally worth it.

The Black Emporium features:

- A magic item store that has some of the best equipment you’ll find in the game. It’s restocked with better items as you progress through the story.- A loyal mabari hound that fights at your side in battle.
-The “Mirror of Transformation”. Gaze into it and you can change your very appearance. Hair, eyes, tattoos, and more can be changed with the click of a button.- A crafting store which sells powerful unique recipes.- Explore the Black Emporium and uncover its strange secrets and lore. Be sure to see its strange proprietor. It should prove most… memorable.

Comes with all new copies.

I sure hope so.  I pre-ordered quite a while ago and would hope such an awesome feature would make its way into the Signature Edition.

Anyhoo, I'm glad Steam users can now get the game as well. Posted Image

Assuming DLC is linked to your EA/BioWare account, like it is currently (and it looks to be that way, considering DA2 game promotions being added to it), then yes, you could register the DLC and then buy the Steam edition if you felt like it.

As for the whole one year thing, they guarantee it'll be available for a year, but don't state that it will not be available after that. If you're concerned about this, you could always contact EA support for clarification on it. Anyhow, Steam don't even give any guarantee that your games will still be available to download tomorrow, never mind next year, how is that better?

Also, as stated in an earlier post, you can backup the install files. I tend to chuck them on an external HDD and burn them to a DVD too for good measure. ;)

Fair treatment for all retailers???  Really?  The fact that every retailer to carry a product requires a separate agreement - and they do - by definition means they're not treated the same.  And some will get better agreements then others.  Hence, not fair by definition - and rightfully so.

respect gamer choice - to an extent, that's a fair point.  But a company shouldn't be forced to do something that they don't want - or that doesn't mean a good deal for them - at all times.

Disgruntled steam users, as I've said, don't really have (IMO) much of an argument for being disgruntled.  I mean, would you repect my complaint if, say, Walmart didn't carry DA2 (and no, I have no idea if they will or not) and I refused to buy it from someone else?

Nice to edit most of my post.  If you had a choice to buy the SE somewhere else, why should EA, Bioware, or any other company give you something extra, even if it's just an additional time to buy the game, simply because it's your preferred option?  See above about Walmart.

How would they be giving me anything "extra" if they gave the Signature Edition for Steam, even as a limited offer for a day, literally everyone else got it.

And no, they don't have to give me anything. But offering the SE would sure as hell be a welcome gesture from EA, and would definately generate them extra sales. Seems like a win-win to me, they'd get more money, and another bunch of complaining forumites taken care of. In addition to happy customers.

I mean really, what do they have to lose? I already went with the "Screw you EA, I'm not buying your game until price reductions"-option over this whole debacle, as stupid as it may seem to you.

Well, every retailer but steam did have the signature edition. At least in my country. So maybe the agreements were different, i can't know, but from my end, it seems that it's an unfaire treatment yeah. Also, why do you think it's "rightfully so"?

Well, what can i say, i'm idealistic, i would prefere game maker to base those kind of decisions NOT on money.

Well, if you thought Walmart had enought selling point to warrant being your sole source of games, and it was the only one not to carry the signature edition, yeah I would respect your complaint, and i would probably post once or twice to support you :)
