I planned on using the default face, but with the Mirror of Transformation I want Hawke to look different throughout the ages. Since the default face isn't editable, is it possible to make something similar to it in the character creator?

Specificaly, are the hair and beard available for custom Hawke or are those features unique like for Sheploo?

I don't imagine it would be, or they could just make Garret's face customizable. I'm sure the beard and hair are available, but as for a full recreation, I doubt it.

Since they once said that the whole 'default Sheppard's face is better than anything you can make on the CC' is gone for DA2, I would guess that it is possible to re-create the default face as long as it doesn't have any special features a-la Alistair/Cailan/Duncan/Loghain.

I don't want the EXACT face, just to be able to get pretty close to it

I think you probably can. The default faces don't look particularly hi-res like VanderShep in Mass Effect, which is why you can't recreate his face.

Side question, what use will the Mirror of transformation have for those using the Default face?

I think it will just change it completely. The mirror will probably be just the character creator again, except for the attributes and spells and such

  • The "Mirror of Transformation". Gaze into it and you can change your very appearance. Hair, eyes, tattoos, and more can be changed with the click of a button.
So, maybe you can't actually change everything...

No devs already confirmed that you can't edit the default Hawke

That's not what I'm asking, I know that already.

I'm asking if the beard and hair are available for custom Hawke so I can at least get close to Garret's appearance.

Hm, it says 'transform your very body, face, hair, eyes' on the image bit.

I'm also guessing the mirror is a simple journey back to the character creation screen. It's the fastest implementation for them, and the most customisability for us. Win/win ^^

I'm under the impression that it will be exactly like VanderShep and you won't be able to edit it in anyway. Although I think it's likely that you will still be able to use the mirror to go between default and custom-made head morph

From the dev quotes it's definitely like that. That answers one question, though still no answer on whether the beard/hair are available for custom Hawke

Ahoy! We're still busy working, but I've seen a few more questions (and have been asked directly as well) with regards to family appearance. I will probably not be answering any further questions on this device, you will be completely free to play with it yourselves soon enough!
____
The Mirror of Transformation is an insidious and twisted device. When you alter your appearance with the device it doesn't just change who you are, but it changes who you were and will be in the future. It selects from one of the infinite possible universes where you were brought up with a different lineage and twists that thread of history into the currently experienced reality. The ripples of this action affect your family and other people's memory of your appearance as well.
___
To people worried you cannot modify the default Hawke appearance I will mention there is a fairly good selection of preset appearances you can base your modifications off of, you won't be left wanting.

doesn't answer much but it's better than knowing nothing.

My understanding is that default Hawke's face isn't made with the character creator, and that's why you can't edit it. You might be able to approximate it, but not completely.

^^ such a great politician response, doesn't answer the question at all but reassure you anyway.

My guess is that Hawke's hairstyle and beard will be available for your custom character. It would be really stupid to exclude hair and beard models already occurring in the game. Bioware should be aware of this.

However, in Origins Duncan's hair model was not available by default but that quickly got taken care of by clever modders (providing you are playing the PC version).

Bioware, listen up: No-one likes restrictions, so just quit this withholding act and make stuff available for use!

Compared to what the Origins toolset is capable of for example, I think Hawke's default appearance is pretty lame anyway so I have no desire to use his face. I'm sure I can do much better even just using the character creator...I mean, look at my avatar! Doesn't this guy look great?! LOL
I don't understand why Bioware always produce these vanilla looking head morphs...its so uninspired!

As for not being able to otherwise edit the default appearance, it not because we're being mean-spirited or because we don't want to provide the option. It's a pre-rendered face that wasn't made with the regular character creator... and thus the only possibility with it is use/not-use. That's not to say that it couldn't be somehow modded-- that might be possible, but I have no idea how that would work.

So basically, no.
