Oh, how I wish I could alter Marian's hair color or hair style or something.

Anyhow, beggars can't be choosers. I'm simply pleased she got her own model, just like Man Hawke (The Illustrious Man Hawke!) did.

My guess is that Hawke's hairstyle and beard will be available for your custom character. It would be really stupid to exclude hair and beard models already occurring in the game. Bioware should be aware of this.
However, in Origins Duncan's hair model was not available by default but that quickly got taken care of by clever modders (providing you are playing the PC version).
Bioware, listen up: No-one likes restrictions, so just quit this withholding act and make stuff available for use!

There are all sorts of reasons they may not be able to do what you ask.  With a totally defined model that is unique and does not have to relate to other parts of the face they can do certain things that may cause massive problems in a morph creator.

The beard fo instance, it may be fine for the locked in face of defualt hawke but if made available for the morph editor it may cause all sorts of problems as a person customizes the face.  It is simply not as simple as making pieces that have been custom created to fit with one head and one head only available for all heads.

As for not being able to otherwise edit the default appearance, it not because we're being mean-spirited or because we don't want to provide the option. It's a pre-rendered face that wasn't made with the regular character creator... and thus the only possibility with it is use/not-use. That's not to say that it couldn't be somehow modded-- that might be possible, but I have no idea how that would work.

So basically, no.

Yes, I know you can't make him look exactly like that. I'm just asking whether the beard and hair are available for custom Hawke so I can at least get close to it

I think I was accused of posting a political sounding answer earlier, let me be precise here. ;)

Default Hawke's hair and beard styles are not available for character customization.  The default appearances were not really intended for piecemeal use in the character editor (ie: the precise nose and eye and mouth shapes are not available either), it is as was mentioned, a custom modelled head all baked together.  This gave the character artists a lot more direct control over how Hawke looked without being restricted to the headmorph system for our title character's appearance.

Now for the good news: There are 32 hairstyles for female hawke (including the bald option), 36 for male hawke (the same number of unique models, but there are a couple more variations of peach fuzz texturing including male pattern baldness which makes no sense to have for females) and 17 beards.

There are no -exact- matches to the default Hawke's hair, however, there are quite a few very similar styles. There is also one similar beard model (though it is a bit longer than the custom one).  You can make a very similar looking character to the custom Hawke model, but it is not exact.  It would be close enough that you can roleplay age (assuming a character's exact hairstyle and beard length changes a little over the years).  This is really one of those things you'll have to see and judge for yourselves because it is a little subjective.

There is a huge range of possibility, there are millions of face variations possible in character generation.  If you were to see every combination of hairstyle alone there are 3,311,685 combinations of possible features for the male.  Hope you're looking forward to it!

Thanks for the detailed reponse! I take back what i said about political sounding answer, this much information is more than I could have wished for.

This is most excellent news. I shall likely be spending my first 2 hours of DA2 in the character creator then :D

22 different eye colours, and yes there are several shoulder length hairstyles for men who like to whip their hair back and forth.

I'm out of answers again for now and back to work, stay frosty.

Is it possible to add the default hairstyles to the character creator by tweaking the chargen config file, like it's doable with DAO and the "exclusive" NPC haircuts? Or did the game change under the hood and that's no longer available?

I lied, I had one more answer rattling around.

I'm not sure how it'll be packaged up and compressed when released, but yeah, there is a chargen config file set up in XML format.

There were 17 female hair styles, 16 male hair styles, 13 beard styles (man and dwarf), and 11 eye colours from the toolset morph editor in DA1. I'm not sure if all of those were available for the 'in game' character creator. Thus there is much more choice it seems in DA2.

Ahh thank you Image IPB

gonna hope now the files for DA2 will be packaged unlocked like it was with DAO, rather than like most of the DLC bits.

That we have double the hairstyles, I am excited for that. Though to be honest, as a guy I have never understood how other men tolerate any facial hair above scruff.

With all that said and done I'm actually really impressed with how the default Hawke looks. For the first time ever in a Bioware game I will use the default face for my first playthrough.

Wow this gets better and better every day! One thing Bioware games always lacked was character customization. For a game where you stare at your character... you'd think they would have lots of options! We finally get that.

That all sounds great! 32 hairstyles and 22 eye colors.:wizard: First evening with DA2 - playing with character creator.

Now I'm curious how many preset faces there are for Hawke and how many different looks for your siblings. Because from what I understand Bethany/Carver looks we see now is only available with the Hawke’s default face.

Wow, that's a lot of opportunity for customisation. I love this news. Oh, I'll probably spend forever in the character creator alone before I even get stuck into the game!
