Dragon Age II on Mac?

Further reading into this makes me believe that most EA games for Mac use a cider "wrapper" to translate the game coding to what an Apple computer can understand. So, as I understand it, this is slowly becoming a standard in most gaming companies. The SIMS 3, even uses a Cider wrapper...if you play that game. But the cider is just a translator, so this should work pretty well

I didn’t know…
…
But, if you think well, it makes a lot sense: why great game companies (like EA, Bioware, Activision,…) would care bringing the whole game again to another platform, if a port “works well enough”?
It is less work, and they still make a good money.
I’m disappointed now… My hopes for the day when games will actually be made for Macs, just shrank.

I think the Mac suffers from the same disorder PS3 games suffered from: PC was there first, and since PC had an established format and fans, it was easier to just ignore Macs for most games. The PS3 caught up with the XBOX 360 now, and I hope the same comes for Mac. Though the Mac Appstore will definately help

They could use engines that support both DirectX and OpenGL, like Blizzard/Activision does, then their games would almost auto-port to macs and they'd be native (thus having better performance).
Some Cider ports have worked for me without hicups, like Sims 3 or Spore but others like PoP and WarHammer had a performance hit (lower fps) when I played them. Others like HMMV had memory leaks which were quite frustrating to be honest.
Some Cider ports are almost flawless but some others have problems.

I never made a de fecto statement. I said 'big chance'. And the userbase of Mac may be bigger these days, it's still way less than ten percent on the market, while all the Windows versions combined have a share of over seventy percent. So from a business point of view, making a Mac version may not be profitable, considering that not every Mac user is gonna buy it.Lyssistr wrote...

OP, when you chose to buy a Mac, you also chose for the big chance that you'll play games like DA2 later than Windows users or not at all.
This is why he made a thread demonstrating interest from a mac user. It's up to him to say why he did it, but when I created a couple of similar threads in the past (for DAII and other games), I wanted my threads to serve as kind reminders to the devs.
Also, I can't agree with the de fecto statement that he'll play his stuff later, this is not a law of nature, this is what happened with DAO. blizzard games are all released concurrently for mac & windows, are patched concurrently and are updated concurrently.
The chance is not a big one, yes, but macs today are not macs of 1996. The userbase is larger, there's Steam for mac now, an application store by apple etc.

Also, we are trying for PC/Mac on the retail box (like Sims3). Will confirm as soon as we can.

This is awesome! However, I wish this was announced earlier. My main platform is Mac and if I had known the disc was both PC and Mac I would have gotten the signature edition

Fernando: Thanks for the reply! And I have a of appreciation for you going through with this! I think the main open question for us mac heads are around DLC, will all DLC also be available for Mac (at release date)?
I was hoping you could confirm this with a simple 'Yes" or at least say something along the line "Yes, this is our goal but we cannot make promises that 100% of them will be available at launch" or "No, Not all DLC will be available at launch but our goal is to port them later. Basically it would be great to know what the internal goals are for the Mac platform. I know that in DA:O the DLC where released a bit later but they where all ported.

I also got an official answer from GameTreeMac that is indeed a Cider port.
Hi "Kravinoth",
Yes it's a Cider port, most of our games as such.
Thanks for your question,
Amanda

Now what I really wanna know is if DA2 for Mac will be released on Steam... because it is my main game platform and if I purchase DA2 in GTM and, after this, DA2 be released in Steam, I'm gonna be mad, really really mad!

I highly doubt it will be released on Steam. However, if Mr.Melo's goal is acheived, it is possible that the game could be downloaded for both Mac and PC from the same page. We can only hope:whistle:

And if this goal become true, all my problems will be solved
(Oh, it's "released ON Steam". Thanks, I didn't know which one to use: "in", "on" or "at" =P)

At the moment I'm a little conflicted of what to buy. Wait for the disc to see if it's dual platform or buy the gametree download?
Not sure why I'm still considering playing under win7. Such a pain to reboot into it and out of it each time. Decisions, decisions.
Still very exited about this game!

btw, just preordered from gametree mac. all current preorder bonuses, and then that demo on the 22nd...pretty cool
So is it actually for Mac as well( the demo)? And I assume you don't include Exiled Prince in preorder bonuses.

i have no idea, but I am hoping so. It would be nice, but we shall see, won't we?
And, no Exiled Prince preorder. Going to get that when the game is released. Annoyed that I never knew sooner so I could order it. But Se la vie
