To all in the eastern States:. Just letting you know we here in "Beautiful british columbia" feel your pain. Don't get me wrong, I love snow, just not so much of it, that my car is halfway buried.

As for any Aussies. I hope everyone is alright

"Halfway" buried? Feh, amateur. We Edmontonians scoff at your mere "halfway" buried. :)

We don't exist anymore. Fog, visibility 6 feet. One moment you drive, the other one you're half way to the other world :P

While I sympathise with those who've been buried under 30 feet of snow or submerged by a flood of biblical proportions, I would like to add that here in England it's been rather overcast today, so if you could spare a thought for our trauma too; it's nearly as bad...!

Actually, we expected this snowstorm that hit the South would bury our automobiles as well. Thankfully, we were underwhelmed. The afternoon after snowfall, the main roads are clear.

I would include Brazil in that list as well. They're getting hammered with rain, flooding, and mudslides as well.

My sympathies.

In Helsinki, we've had mountains of snow, way more than usually in the winter - then a few days ago the temperature rose, and it began to rain.... and after the snow had turned into slush, today the temperature went down again, freezing it over. AND we got a bit more snow on top. That's pretty much the optimal way to produce treatcherously slippery roads. The only thing that could make it worse would be if the temperature rose again, and it rained briefly - then we'd have essentially ice covered with a layer of water. :crying:

Though we her in Finland have the advantage that we're PREPARED for harsh winters, and have the equipment, organization and experience to keep everything running more or less smoothly throughout times like these. The airports have been running, no big traffic problems either.

Now that it's so slippery, we do have people falling and injuring themselves - whenever conditions are like this, the emergency rooms in hospitals are very busy dealing with people who've fallen and broken their wrist, arm, or a leg. Over the years I've once broken my wrist during this these kind of conditions, and once fractured a rib as a result of a gloriously stylish belly-flop. :?

All I have to do is look outside, it's like living in a white void.

Eastern Canada will be hit by this storm soon, too. It will hit us tonight.

God you people are going to hate me.

It's 4PM here in CA. The sun is getting ready to set. It's 70F (21C?) and the sky is clear and blue. Tonight the lows will hit somewhere between 47F-51F (8-10.5C). I'll probably wear a T-shirt and jeans when I go out...

Now that's not true.  It snowed last night and then turned to rain by morning...

I'm rather happy. It snowed here in SC, last time I remember that happening to anyworthwhile degree was over 8 years ago.

It extended the holiday by 2 days. Score!

At about -20 below zero earlier this week in Montana, and up to 40 above by Fri. It's been doing this all winter.

I say! That's most untrue.

I'd take our grey skies and grey clouds over anything else any day :D

It's been cloudy, raining and humid here. But it's not bad here in comparison to what's happening in Queensland. Brisbane got flooded pretty badly.

If only I had more money, I would donate more than my $5 I could only give. /poor student

Today's not disappointing in that regard.  It's so unrelentingly grey that I can't even see individual clouds.

I'm almost ashamed to say that I actually like seeing the sun once in a while.  As long as I'm not caught outside, since many generations who lived under those grey skies have left me with a skin that turns to the colour of beetroot if so much as a 40 watt bulb is waved in my general direction.

Wonder what the forecast is for tomorrow?  Hmm, the icon has a blue sky, sun, grey cloud, black cloud and rain.  Well that's nice and definite then.

My hometown is Toowoomba in QLD Australia. I flew home from Adelaide to Brisbane and while I was on the plane I watched the events unfold on the in flight TV. Everyone is in shock...

I managed to save a car in Brisbane though... the owner was away and the car would have been completely submerged if I hadn't gone GTA on it's window... Apart from saving a car... things are pretty grim. My aunty and uncle nearly got washed away. They were so lucky and I am so thankful.

A young Toowoomba boy begged a rescue officer to save his brother first, when he and his mother were trapped in a car. The boy and his mother were swept away and died. He gave his life for his little brother, and the rescue worker will be haunted for the rest of his life, since last thing he said to the boy and his mum was that he would be back for them.

Sad stuff. :( Also, my dad is a Police Officer and is combing paddocks for the deceased. Thinking of him tonight. Hang in there dad!

That sounds unimaginably awful.  It's bad enough contemplating people who've lost everything, and then it gets worse when "everything" includes family.  Very sad stuff; I just hope it all ends before many more tragedies occur and that people can soon start rebuilding their lives. :(

I guess I should quit complaining about the cold now.

Well done Ardinal.

It's a bit messed up. I have been up all night and now I'm babbling about it on a forum..

I don't know, I just feel awful. People were trapped in their houses when the water swept them and the entire house away. :( The little boy I spoke of was only 13. Saving his brother like that at age 13. He was an amazing little dude.

@slimgrin Sorry, T.T
