I think it would be a waste of time and money to tack on MP.
Completely agree. Instead, they should use the money they would have allocated to MP and put it towards signing Milla as one of the new VA's for ME3. That would be acceptable.

Any kind of non-co-op mode, that is to say any kind of versus mode, would also have to eliminate tactical pause in order to work, which would seemingly take some of the "Mass Effect"-ness out, unless they are somehow eliminating it from standard gameplay in ME3 and going completely real time... which is too frightening to actually think about.

Yeah, the more I think about co-op with the extra players controlling the Squad... bleh. I agree that it would probably be clunky at best, and uglier than Murderface at worst.

Yeah its one thing if they give us crappy multiplayer its another if they make the singleplayer crappy in order to have a viable multiplayer that is just unforgivable!

Perhaps the other player could take on the chosen character completely--even when they're on the Normandy and such. I know Bioware can't afford to make complete Shepard-style multi-choice dialogues for all characters, but if they could--imagine the possibilities! The whole ship could be filled with life, Garrus and Tali bonding in the mess hall, Samara and Thane discussing their different principles, and so on. As many as ten people could play together, all of them gaining access to unique dialogues and all kinds of new information about their chosen character that's not accessible even to Shepard. This would motivate people to play as different characters.
...Okay, I think my imagination ran rampant with me.

It is alright. MP is quite the hot-button topic, for reasons I simultaneously understand but remain baffled by. No name-calling yet so I think we're doing pretty good.
I just mainly see a lot of "screw multi-player in the multi-butt" sentiment going around, and that's good feedback as well, but it just occured to me that if there IS going to multi-player, we might want to let Bioware know what the fans think would be good instances of MP versus crappy ways to implement it.
So that's why you posted Milla with her 'multi-pass'...

And then over and over and over.
Oh, and did I mention over and over and over?
In such a hypothetical, I guess some sort of co-op experience would be nice. It'd be like Resident Evil 5, except, actually worth the money.

A good MP implementation for Mass3 would be not to implement it at all and instead make a new Mass game focused and developed for MP specifically after we have our awesome, kick ass, gratifying SP experience played over and over and over.

Milla has the multipass... to my heart.
Back on topic, I know I called this thread Multi-Player Optimism but even this discussion makes the possibility seem kind of bleak. Of course, Bioware could always surprise us... but ME3 would be their first game with multi-player, wouldn't it? Not counting KOTORO (which sounds like a Moral Kombat boss).

They did Baldur's gate series and Neverwinter nights too. RPG series with both single player and multiplayer capabilities and awesome stories (in my opinion). All of those titles got good reviews and were generally hailed as landmarks in computer rpgs.

I am not opposed to the idea but I am a bit skeptical since bioware is not know for multiplayer gaming. Perhaps the multiplayer formula seen in games like gears of war would work best for ME3.
3rd person objective based combat with simple tasks like kill all members of the other team or capture the flag. Also being able to unlock and play as famous characters within the trilogy would be a great idea.

It was never really going to be that optimistic given the forums history on multiplayer topics.outlaworacle wrote...

On the optimistic side I'll take co-op so long as I get to shoot my squadmate for not following orders.
