I think that's very cool--unless I'm reading something wrong. If I'm not, will we see things consistently laid out like that?

Are these screens from the Xbox version of the game or PC?
xbox as told by the previewer, and some of the screenshots have the console UI so i'm guessing xbox.

Shocking. It actually has good textures and character models, unlike Origins on that system.nightcobra8928 wrote...

I've also got to say that I am completely in love with that mage outfit that Hawke is wearing. I am a huge, and I do mean huge, proponent of pants on females in a game where they'll be fighting.

You know what I find intensely interesting about the Marian dialogue wheel? The top option isn't exactly the "good" option, you know? The "don't summon demons with blood magic" option. It's the "get along with everyone" option. The bottom option is the aggressive option, where you tell her she was wrong.
I think that's very cool--unless I'm reading something wrong. If I'm not, will we see things consistently laid out like that?
Agreed. It's a nice possibility that you can take the road of compremise but at the same time, you're not flat out condoning or condenming the other person's action. Unless the NPC in question is a flat out villain, i.e. Howe or Vaughn from DAO, I want to be able to try to meet them in the middle as sometimes actions that may seem evil were done for a greater good or were simply the lesser of two evils. Also, there are times when someone has commited a crime, but there were complex circumstances and said action did not define the character as a whole, i.e. Sten.
So, in this instance, if *possible* Merril did summon as Fade Demon to aide the party and no one was killed, I would still be wary of it as a Mage who sees the danger in Blood Magic, but I'm not going to rip the person a new one if they just saved the lives of the people I care about. I hope what we see in the wheel is an indication of the moral parth we can take for more noble/heroic characters.

I completely agree with you - conciliatory vs. confrontational would be awesome. (And, in my view, a "good" or "evil" character would want to take different approachs with various people in different situations. The diplomatic option isn't always going to be the morally right one.)Saibh wrote...

Another interesting screenshot.
I think previous posters are right about the upper-left web being fire/ice, the upper-middle one being earth/lightning, the upper-right one being entropy, and the centre-right one being creation. I also think the specializations are fairly easy to peg, as earlier posters have noticed: force mage in the lower-left, spirit healer in the lower-middle, and blood mage in the lower-right.
That said, I disagree about the centre-left and centre webs. Look at the full-sized version of the picture. The centre-left web has two icons that resemble skulls and one that resembles a skeleton, suggesting that it's spirit. The centre web has icons including a glowing brain, a shield with a symbol on it (arcane shield?), sparkly crossed swords, something that looks like crushing prison, etc. I think the centre web is arcane this time around, with some shuffling of items that used to be in spirit being moved to arcane.
I also oughta say that now with the diffused impression of the game screen implemented into the background it doesn't look near as bad as in the previous, starkly empty looking menu screenshots. I'd even go as far as to call it fairly good looking. Now if only the taskbar got some personality infusion as well.
Oh, and ghostmessiah, you've got right and left mixed up.

Well, the personalities are meant to be Diplomatic, Sarcastic and Aggressive, so it would make sense. Anyway, that they apparently aren't conflating diplomatic with good (subjective as the latter may be in this case) is a major plus in my book, even if I don't have idea one what the spoken version of the sarcastic option is.Saibh wrote...

That *would* explain it. I really really really hope you are right that diplomatic isn't being equated with good. Let's have the options for smooth and clever evil / awesomely badass good, please!
As a side-note: all this kinda has me feeling bad for Obsidian, who did the framed narrative and professional/suave/aggressive attitude things a year ago exceptionally well in Alpha Protocol but got very little credit for it in the press (who largely pilloried the game). :-/

I did know that--but I figured that was the DAII way of saying "Paragon, Neutral, and Renegade". Just not explicitly labeled so. I'm quite pleased they're using those words as intended.

1) That I made the right decision to pre-order despite previous big reservations
2) That they picked the completely WRONG footage to use in some of the first videos released about the game ( especially the combat one with the weird white ground.)
Because THESE screenshots, on an xbox at that, have restored my faith.
I am loving the detail, like the quasi-dimple at the edges of the mouth that give a sense of pliability to the face? And those qunari - they look sculpted in something like zbrush, the models are sinewy despite the bulk. Very nice!! The ground isn't flat and shiny and devoid of colour. It looks great. First impression was not so good due to the first videos, honestly, but these screenshots are beautiful in comparison. Whew. I like.
They 100% should have used FemHawke for the original advertising, in my opinion, because her texture seems SO much better. Very impressive from these shots.
The first videos did not give a proper representation, if these are anything to go by.... I wonder why they did that? oO My old advertising me is going HUH?? still, I am happy I got the bloody thing now. !!! Now to pick a picture for my desktop.
