Just tell me that it doesn't fade away on the PC. I think I saw that in one of the German previews how the portraits faded away out of combat and I 'd find that terribly annoying considering alot of time I use the portraits to select a companion.

I thought she was less mannish and more military. She was with the Alliance for a long time- it makes sense with her character. If Liara had the same mannerisms, then that would have been odd (given that she's very feminine).

It would be cool is Hawke's default posture changed depending on how you played them. Not important, but it would be a nice little extra.

So, umm...is the Times New Roman font really here to stay? I know it's not the most dire issue, but the world is filled with so many pretty, interesting fonts...I would have been satisfied with sticking with Mikadan. I have to create and look at documents made with Times New Roman all day. It's disconcerting to see it in a video game. I feel like I might have to start proofreading.

A bit disappointed by the info that only the two major decisions really count for anything from origins. I'm also annoyed by how IGN uses their typical marketing strategy of 'that game had flaws here, here, and here so play the sequel because it "fixes" them'. Personally, I liked my creatable silent protagonist, he had plenty of life to me and their facial features did change to accomadate events from what I saw.

Well, it kind of made sense that the female version of Commander Shepard would be that way - she is a space marine, after all. (In fact, being a tiny little feminine-looking girl myself, I loved playing as an intimidating, butt-kicking lady space marine. ^_^ ) But the more "feminine" poses and models will be cool to see in DA2 - the way female characters stood and moved in DAO did look a bit off.

I did get annoyed at the preview for saying that DAO "was not a good-looking game". Even though the DA2 graphical style looks awesome, it's not necessarily better than the old one. Personally, I really liked the old-school, gold/green/brown look of Origins (well, it reminded me of the Baldur's Gate games - they were pretty brown themselves!). DA2 does have a very definite theme, though. The one thing that bugged me about the screenshots was the font. It looks rather generic - a font which says "I am writing a 30-page research paper," not "This is a stylish, fun entertainment experience."

Question! What do the stars next to the weapon icons on the right side of the screen represent?

I wonder what three main endings of DAO you can import are...US (Alistair alone?), Loghain's redemption (Ali + Anora?), DR (Anora alone?)

They are a at a glance determination of how good an item is for your character. So 5 stars is excellent, 3 is good, 1 is bad.

Haha- yeah, thats very true. I knew there was something odd about the dialogue and I think thats it. Not a huge issue, but at least they didn't go with Papyrus or Comic Sans:P

Funny thing is, despite how well a game is initially reviewed and praised on most of the big gaming sites, you wait a year or so and when the sequel is ready to come out and they unleash the inevitable "5 Things We Want in BlahBlah Game 2" they always rip the original to shreds. Yet you never see those negative points brought up in the original review.

I didn't care much for how the IGN preview was written either but it was at least  a tiny bit better than most have been in trying to tear up Origins.

They only really do this to try and show how good the sequel is. The're trying to give the reader more incentive to buy the product.

I seem to recall reading that the three possible choices if you haven't completed and imported Origins are Drunk Alistair with Anora ruling, Alistair ruling alone, and Alistair ruling with Anora.  In the case of drunk Al, I believe Loghain sacrificed himself, but I can't remember the details for the endings where Alistair rules.  One would have to be Ultimate Sacrifice and another Dark Ritual, but I don't know which would be which.  Maybe I'm wrong and one of the possibilities is for Alistair to sacrifice himself, but that would seem like a waste.  I mean, they can give him a cameo, but they can't give the Warden one because Wardens can be so different.  Or so I'd think.

I love how Hawke is voiced now. I completely agree with what IGN said about my character being a lifeless mannequin.

Pretty much everything about that preview got me excited. Game looks much better than Origins as well.

Ahh are these from the import to Awakenings? Cool. I will get around to doing an Orlesian Warden run with Awakenings at some point.

I actually am a big fan of Times New Roman when it's used in an artistic context like this.  It's clean and it doesn't say "look at me, I'm awesome!"  That is a plus, in my book.  Possibly this is because I've just recently started recognizing the fonts that surround my daily existence.  I kind of wish I could go back to the time before 50% of the storefronts I pass announce not their name but their chosen font.  "Helvetica!" (Dammit!) "Copperplate!" (Dammit!) "Papyrus!!!" (...)

That said, I can sympathize with the work-related association.  That would be potentially unpleasant.

Another interesting screenshot.

Okay, gonna throw out my guesses on the abilities:

Top Left: Elemental
Ability guesses: Winter's Grasp (snowflake, top row), Cone of Cold (snowflake on cone, top row), Fireball (red fireball, bottom row), Inferno (fire, bottom row), a grease fire-type effect for Fireball (fire patch, middle row), a power up for all your fire and ice spells (snowflake inside a fireball, middle row)

Top Center: Primal
Ability guesses: Stonefist (fist, top row), Petrify (medusa head, top row), Rock Armor (body armor, middle row), Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning (forked lightning bolt, bottom row), Tempest? (wind vortex thing, bottom row), a power up for your earth and lightning spells (lightning bolt striking earth, middle row)

Top Right: Entropy?
Not sure really what these are.
Ability guesses: Some kind of drain or hex? (arrow pointing down on a guy's head, top row), blind or disorient? (skull with sunglasses, middle row), summoning spell? (skull with tendrils/tentacles), Horror/Waking Nightmare? (man in fetal position, bottom row), area debuff or CC, Death Cloud? (spiral sun between smoke cloud, middle row)

Middle Left: Spirit?
The circle made of bones and skull/skeleton icons have me thinking this is where the spirit-related spells are.
Ability guesses: a 'spirit bolt' spell (lightning bolt, top row), Walking Bomb (skeleton, top row), Animate Dead (skull, middle row), Dispel Magic or Mana Drain (magic hand with purple spot on palm, bottom row), a power up for spirit spells, improved Animate Dead summons (skull with crown, middle row)

Middle Center: Telekinesis
Ability guesses: Telekinetic Weapons (crossed swords with stars, top row), Force Field (man in circle, top row), Mind Blast (brain, middle row), Crushing Prison (gate/grill, middle row), protection from telekintetic abilities? (shield, bottom row)

Middle Right: Creation
Ability guesses: Heal (cross, middle row), Glyph of Paralysis (left glyph, top row), Glyph of Repulsion (right glyph, top row), Haste (running man, middle row), Heroic Aura/Offense/Defense, possibly all rolled into one? (shining man, bottom row)

Lower Left: Force Mage Specialization
Ability guesses: some kind of AOE wave-of-force ability (arrow striking the ground, top row), a slowing spell (snail, middle row), a repel/push away spell (arrows pointing outward, bottom row), an attract/pull in spell (arrows pointing in, bottom row), passive ability that protects against the force component in abilities (shield with arrow, top row)

Lower Center: Spirit Healer Specialization
Ability guesses: Cleansing Aura (cross, middle row), Group Heal (four crosses, top row), some sort of chain healing ability (chain, bottom row), a power up for healing spells (cross with laurels, top row), a power up for the spirit healer's health? (man with cross, bottom row)

Lower Right: Blood Mage Specialization
Ability guesses: Blood Magic (bloody hand, middle row), Bloody Grasp? (bloody hand reaching up, top row), Blood Wound? (bloody skeleton, middle row), Blood Control (puppet on strings, middle row), no idea (whatever that icon is on the bottom row)

Ooo, can we get fade away in the PC version? I always liked having the interface fade away in games.

There's a key to hide it. I think it's "V." Same as Origins, if I recall correctly.

Great Job, I think your right...especially about the bottom three being the specialization trees...sems very interesting if these are correct. I'm already starting to fomulate my plan of navigating through these various trees for my mages...
