That sounds like a good assessment. Overall, the new system looks awesome, I think.
I just have one gripe about it; there seems to be very few points in total to spend, which concerns me because it might mean we'll wind wind up having every talent/spell by the endgame, which would make the choice of which talents/spells to pick redundant in the long run. Of course, the level cap might be lower to counter this, or you may not receive talent/spell points every time you level up, who knows?
Just felt the need to comment on this to try and show up this, almost definitally wont be a problem. I'm sure someone has already touched on it but just incase, well here goes. if you count abilities (that you spend point on since 1st is a freebie) they're are 32 skills 'not' counting specializations. It's been stated you get specialization same way as last game, in that, you get to pick 2 by lvl 14. So thats another 10 skills, 42 to 'pick from'.
Throw in a little the avg end game lvl of probably around 25 (max is 50 but they've stated leveling will end around same as DAO, so 20-25), 1 point per lvl and...well..your not quite hitting that 42 mark. And if thats not enough - don't forget! at least half of the abilities have a 'passive' to upgrade it, or 2 in some cases! Taking into account the passives based off the 'zoomed in' (thats when you select a web to directly spend points in, that view shows all of them for selection) you'll notice each one has about 10-12 thing (counting passives that don't show up till selection).
Simplest of basic math, 10 * 8 gets you 80 things to spend your points on, roughly. Even IF you can hit lvl 50 'and' you got a buncha extra points by say 10 books and quest giving bonus points you still wouldn't hit that 80 mark. So I wouldn't worry to much about maxing everything out, ever actually. Its quite impossible.
