Anyone catch that bit where the reviewer said that after playing the 5 hour demo she "fired up a new character in Origins, a Dalish elf warrior. I was pleasantly surprised to realize that they had redone the elf character models. Instead of a human with different ears the elves now have a distinct look – large, wide-set eyes and more petite features actually make them stand out from the crowd."

Does this mean that a graphically redone Origins is coming with DA 2? What is the reviewer referring to?

I believe the reviewer meant that, after having loaded a character into DA:O, they realized that they had redone the elf models for DA2.

Thanks, I figured it was something simple like that, but the language used was vague enough that I was confused.

I'm still confused about the Save Game transfers. I deleted all my DA:O files *facepalm* before I knew about them carrying over to DA2. It mentions different background options but will they be enough to cover every eventuality? I want to make sure I can choose to kill the Archdemon, 'lay' *ahem* with Morrigan and keep Alistair well away from the throne!

I killed my computer and as such lost every single file.  They are probably on backup somewhere, but frankly I don't want to realize what I *didn't* update before it died, so I am not checking. Ignorance being bliss and all that.

I am using my time before release to play through the game again and get the endings I want to import to see the different effects.  Just in case.  I don't consider it a waste of time personally if they give me the option to select alternate scenarios though, if anything it is gearing me up for DA2 :)

Maybe someone who knows will pop in, or it may be released in time.  Fingers crossed !

You can't do all ot the three things. The only Dark RItual option import have Alistair on the throne ("Hero of Ferelden), the other two options are: a (dalish I think) elf who sacrificed himself and put Anora and Alistair on the throne, and a noble dwarf that put Anora on the throne, sent away Alistair and sent Loghain to sacrifice himself againt the Archdemon.

Really? She actually looks closer to femsheps model..

The actress you pictured in your post is actually Amanda Donahoe (sp?), as I recall.

You are right   *amended

Thanks for the replies. That's a pity about the choices available. I will have to play through DA:O a third time. Worse things could have happened, lol

don't worry too much, there is still time to finish a DA:O playthrough (in fact I'm doing it right now) and I'm sure there will be an online save database like Mass Effect.

In the combat screenshots, the avatars showing health bars seem a bit too much in the way? There seems to be a lot of space for it to move to the edge.

I'm sure the modding community will take care of that.  I quite like the old design with the health and willpower/stamina curving around the portrait.

Where?  I'm currently playing DA:O and was not aware of this option.  Where on the item screen is it located?

Is that Merrill in combat right above femhawke's health bar??

Yup I think that's her! She is facing away from the others and fighting someone, so definitely an ally. Also forest area means we are somwhere near Dalish elves.

Yeah it's totally her. If anyone can't see her, she's below the odd wooden cross thingy, whic his in turn above the boulder, which is in turn above Varric. I suck at giving directions.
This makes me a bit more certain that she's the blood mage referenced in the convo. If she is, I wonder if that's what her rivalry/friendship path will revolve around. Blood magic. Would be cool to have a Dalish whose main concern isn't staying the hell away from humans.

Your directions are alright, I was struggling to see her and was convinced she wasn't there before I read them .

Incidently I noticed she doesn't have an icon on the mini-map, not sure if that has any significance at all but there you go.

I'm assuming she's just an ally in that fight, instead of being a party member, maybe she ends that fight summoning some demon which brings up the dialogue we see in the other screenshot

Ahh, excellent. Wondered a while ago if it was socially acceptable for women in Thedas to wear pants. This seems to answer that...

I'm wondering.... That woman with the white hair... The article captions it with "Look who's back!" - my guess is that it's Flemeth. We know that she's been known to mess with demons - it's in her legend - so I wonder if maybe she drops in to save Hawke and co for some mysterious reason of her own, and this is a result.

Just a thought.

That's Flemeth. She was confirmed early for DAII, and that's her model--but the dialogue sounds to young and defensive to be her. She'd just go "if you didn't want help from us illegal mages..." again.

That's not her dialogue, that's what we say for her

What sort of modifications were made to the game's engine to get it to look that good on consoles? Origins had really low resolution character models.

Because DAO console versions were a porting (don't know how fast). Now they're developing the three versions at the same period.

I was hoping for this too, but dev posts have said no. I dont remember exactly where but they said it was difficult to separate weapon aoe from spell aoe, so if FF is on ALL aoe attacks would hit your party members. (Including Warrior basic attacks) so they left it out except on Nightmare, where its supposed to be hard.

Ugh why dont they add it!

civ 5 lets you toggle and change as much as you want as far as stuff goes why not just have the option.

edit: not to hate but seems like console port if they wont even allow you to toggle it off.

What if i want nightmare with no friendly fire?

Junk? If you're playing on the console, you can select to tranfer any item into the Junk category, and you can sell it all off at once next time you're at a merchant. The game doesn't automatically sift things into Junk for you, however.

Play on hard which will in all probability be similar to Nightmare but without FF.

But which option do you want? Being able to play with FF on lower levels or being able to play as hard as possible without FF. The latter seems inconsistent, if you want the hardest possible game well of course that will include FF.
