Looks like it should give them a migraine.

It's nice to read an article written by someone who genuinely liked DA:O, knew it backwards and forwards, and is approaching DA:2 with that mindset. I just mean that some of the early previews (was it Gamespot?) were obviously written by people who seemed to be messing up darkspawn with Orcs and clearly thought they were too cool for RPGs. It makes it harder for me to know how I will like DA2 when someone like that is reviewing it.

Awsome potential confirmation of the six 'basic' and three specilazation trees.
Six basic trees top two levels and specilization bottom level.
I remember a dev somewhere said you start off with the basic spell in every tree and specilty points unlock the basic spell of one specialty tree (also hinted at by the picture - all top six basic spell unlocked, bottom three all locked).
Top Right Top Middle Top Left
Ice/fire Earth Entropy
Frosty Icon above Earth First Icon Death/Skull icons
Fire icon below
Middle Right Middle Middle Middle Left
Lightning Spirit Creation
Lightning Icon Crushing Prison Heal Icon
near top end
Bottom Right Bottom Middle Bottom Left
Force Mage Spirit Healer Blood Mage
Guess based Similar Color/Icon Bloody Hand
on given info

I really hope, even though you can't change her face, you have the option to manipulate her hair and coloration (skin, eyes, hair). It's not the most pressing issue, but I love her face, but prefer longer hair.

I think previous posters are right about the upper-left web being fire/ice, the upper-middle one being earth/lightning, the upper-right one being entropy, and the centre-right one being creation. I also think the specializations are fairly easy to peg, as earlier posters have noticed: force mage in the lower-left, spirit healer in the lower-middle, and blood mage in the lower-right.
That said, I disagree about the centre-left and centre webs. Look at the full-sized version of the picture. The centre-left web has two icons that resemble skulls and one that resembles a skeleton, suggesting that it's spirit. The centre web has icons including a glowing brain, a shield with a symbol on it (arcane shield?), sparkly crossed swords, something that looks like crushing prison, etc. I think the centre web is arcane this time around, with some shuffling of items that used to be in spirit being moved to arcane.

That sounds like a good assessment. Overall, the new system looks awesome, I think.
I just have one gripe about it; there seems to be very few points in total to spend, which concerns me because it might mean we'll wind wind up having every talent/spell by the endgame, which would make the choice of which talents/spells to pick redundant in the long run. Of course, the level cap might be lower to counter this, or you may not receive talent/spell points every time you level up, who knows?

Yeah, I like it. Much more functional and less obtrusive than the Origins one.ms_handagote wrote...

It's the lighting of Dragon Age. Skin takes on the hue of the environment.

I'm assuming in that spell tree image that we are not seeing all the upgrades for each spell...........correct?
cuz just on that pic alone.........it doesn't seem like that many spells, compared to DAO.
however, the devs have said that now you can upgrade spells to make them more powerful, or even alter the nature of the spell.............
I'm curious to see what some of the upgraded versions are like!

Female Hawke reminds me of FF8's SquallIf only the blood stain was on a diagonal across her nose
She looks gorgeous though. The preview is a fantastic read. I was excited the other day after watching the video. I got even more excited earlier when I read about the free stuff and now i'm surprised I haven't exploded i'm that excited.
Bring on DA2 and Female Hawke!
