As for patching...I've never had an issue with forced patching.

I always have an issue with forced patching.

It's not the retailer's place to tell me which version of the game I get to use.

This.  DAO 1.03 was an unmitigated disaster.  If I had not had the option to re-install and go back to 1.02a from a sattelite site, that would've ended my interest in Dragon Age altogether.

Sure, because clearly there isn't an option to turn off auto-patching. That'd be ridiculous!

Are you talking about the console version? I don't remember any force patching from playing the PC version.

Yeesh, if you don't want to pay EA's extra 10$, just wait for the Ultimate Edition (I'll do that :D), buy the game together with a (few) friends, etc.

The first time you activate a game, there isn't.

So unless you buy every game at release and install it immediately, you run the risk of mandatory patching.  And even then you'd still get day 1 patches.

Sure, you can disable automatic patching, but only after you patch the first time.

PS3 games are about the same price plus tax. It also depends how much money you put down at pre-order. I started at the minimun ($5 at Gamestop) and added $10 this past January. So by figuring that, I should have to pay $45 or more depending on the ending price.
