Upgrade's aren't shown in that view if you look at the screenshot of Isabela's swashbuckler tree http://bioware.files...s_isabella.jpg  you can see that the upgrades are the smaller icons that are identical in appearance to the ability they are upgrading.

!

Interesting.

Now I'm curious what those circles are.

I think the circles being passives are more likely to be an over all upgrade to the whole line. While spells will have a separate upgrade line.

Oh, then maybe Andar was right.

Upgrades only show up when you click into the individual school.

Slippery slope. DA had far more spells, and I wonder how many of these are simply an improvement on another.

Still, the amount we get doesn't look too bad.

Doubt it, dev's haven't given much of an impression but they have said seems to indicate mental power type of thing (Telekenesis). Other users have theorized that Force is an elemental school (since their weren't any that imp'd ur elemental in the first DA)

Blood Magic Mid 2: looks to be a blood splatter of some kind with only the arms intact... or is it that the arms are ripping it apart? Could it be that Hawke's apparent "demon arms" power is actually a blood magic technique? Prior to activation in the trailer, he does appear to be doing something with his arm, either cutting or burning it...

eclipse_9990 creation school is also known as the school of nature (written in the codex) so i dont think it'll be that...unless they change lore a little. I like primalist if for the ties to the original named school and it kinda reminds me of 4th edition druids, shamans and wardens in dnd. 'primal power.' lol.

Either way im really happy those two were put together absolutely brilliant.

as for force mage im guessing it enhances force power in spells OR manipulates gravity or maybe just arcane magic

shame stinging swarm doesnt look like its back. I liked how it jumped from enemy to enemy. But heck, im way too happy with the earth spells to care. (cant wait to see the new rock armor!)

also a thought about blood mage. I think itd be kool if the spells were like bloody grasp, ie not requiring us to activate blood magic but rather just take the cost of the spell to our health as its cast.

Hmm. Haste as activated, no Frost/Fire Weapons, no spellpower buffs (like Spell Wisp or Spell Might), no Drains, no Mana Alteration spells, no Miasma, no Paralysis, no Mana/Stamina regen buffs.

You never know, they might be upgraded effect of certain spells? Lightning bolt able to paralyize on upgrade, spell shield adds spell power on upgrade etc.

Could you please link me to the spell descriptions you're reading.

I only see icons -- one third of which we are completely guessing on. Even for the ones we are pretty sure about the actual spells themselves could have changed drastically and be combinations of spells from the original game.

But if you could please link me to the spell description page that your basing your conclusions on I would love to read it.

Thanks,

You serious? Haven't read the rest of the thread yet, but we've known for months now that activated abilities are diamonds and sustained abilities are hexagons. The circles are likely passive abilities. So activated Haste and no Frost/Fire weapons are obvious. The others admitedly don't have to be true, but are pretty good guesses anyway. Either way, my point is not to dismiss other people's conclusions/theories as unbased BS only because their posts aren't filled to the brim with mights and maybes.

...unbased BS? He asked for a link and he did so using a decent amount of manners. He also didn't dismiss anything. Did we read the same post?

Being a little more on topic we do know that the Frost/Fire Weapons spells are gone. I can't remember where but a dev confirmed that. Anything else we will probably have to wait for more info. I particully want to know what the second glyph next to paralysis is. Repulsion maybe?

From a screenshot with no labels you stated that there were:

no spellpower buffs (like Spell Wisp or Spell Might), no Drains, no Mana Alteration spells, no Miasma, no Paralysis, no Mana/Stamina regen buffs.

To make these last six statements I'm assuming you have more information than I do, because  I see no way to make these conclusions based on the icons shown. That's why I asked if you had a link to the additional information that you based your statements on.

There was a lot of overlap in DA:O spells, and a fair amount of fluff as well.  I imagine that with a smaller pool of spells available there is a higher chance of each spell feeling unique and being useful.

Blood Magic Top 1: looks like a tiny hand and a spray of blood. Perhaps a Jowan-style blood spray attack?

I would rather they'd let us assign all the points rather than pre-assigning those first six for us.

There was a mod to undo this in DAO; I hope to see one for DA2 as well.
