The bottom Blood Magic spell looks like a bat with a drop of blood on it.. Blood Sacrifice?

This player is hoping it'll be come kind of demon-summoning spell. ^_^

Me too.. But when I look at the whole blood sacrifice spell and how similiar it is to vampires..(taking someoneelses blood to heal yourself). I have my doubts...

*eyes widen* Holy ****.. I just realized.. Blood Mages ARE vampires!(Dragon Age version anyway..)

Hm I never thought of it that way. I always imagine it'd be sort of like healing except that it's not powered by lyrium, but powered by blood instead, as per the definition of blood magic.

"Force mage" was a joke by a dev... a reference to star wars

I don't think so.

Mark Darrah in an interview with Curse said the following:

Curse: What is the difference between an ability, and a specialization?
Mark Darrah: An ability is a specific thing, for example a Shield Bash would be an ability. A specialization is actually an entire tree. So, if you took Bloodmage, Bloodmage represents the entire tree of potential abilities. When you start the game you have access to six trees of abilities, and then later on you get a specialization point at 7, and one at 14, that lets you unlock higher level specialties. For a mage it's spirit healer, blood magic, and force mage.

If memory serves, Shortly after there was a thread that asked: What's a force mage?
David Gaider's respons was: When we force you to be a mage.
Chris Priestly then locked the thread a few pages later because people were focusing on David's joke.
Some folks assumed that Chris was referring to the Force Mage being a joke as opposed to David's reply being a joke.

As Mark originally provided this info in a serious interview, I believe that Force Mage is still one of the three specializations.

I can't remember where, so don't take this as gospel, but I remember reading somewhere that the arms from the destiny trailer was a special finish version of crushing prison.

I would rather they'd let us assign all the points rather than pre-assigning those first six for us.
There was a mod to undo this in DAO; I hope to see one for DA2 as well.

Are you talking about the big squares? I think those are spell school icons, not actual spells themselves.

I believe it too. Infact other than the 6 spell school icons, she has only 4 spells opened: two in the Primal Fire-Ice school, one in the Arcane school and one in the Creation school. That means she gets 1 spell for each level (or maybe she has made some spells upgrade).

I just saw this in another thread and thought it should be repeated here:

Seb Hanlon wrote...

Ability upgrades are in fact hidden on the all-trees view, to unclutter the display. Don't worry, there's lots of things to spend your points on. While this is still subject to balance and tuning until final release, I believe that you're nowhere near having every ability in a full playthrough.

Ill have a go at this:

Top First Tree: Elemental
Top 1: Winter's Grasp
Top 2: Cone of Cold
Low 1: Fireball
Low 2: Flame Blast
Mid 1: Fire resistance?
End: Passive Elemental (Fire/Ice) Mastery

Top Second Tree: Nature
Top 1: Stonefist
Top 2: Petrify
Mid 1: Rock Armor
Low 1: Lightning
Low 2: Shock
End: Passive Elemental (Earth/Lightning) Mastery

Top Third Tree: Entropy
Top 1: Weakness/Hex
Mid 1: Misdirection Hex
Low 1: Horror
Low 2: Sleep
End: Paralyse or Death Cloud?

Mid First Tree: Spirit
Top 1: Arcane Bolt
Top 2: Walking Bomb
Low 1: Dispel Magic
Mid 1: Animate Dead or Death Syphon
End: Passive Spirit (Arcane) Mastery?

Mid Second Tree: Arcane
Top 1: Telekinetic Weapons
Top 2: Force Shield
Mid 1: Mind Blast
Mid 2: Crushing Prison
Low 1: Arcane Shield

Mid Third Tree: Creation
Top 1: Glyph of Paralysis
Top 2: Glyph or Repulsion
Mid 1: Heal
Mid 2: Haste
Low 1: Heroic

Low First Tree: Battlemage?
Top 1: Gravity?
Top 2: Fade Shield (Or some Passive Defence Uppgrade)
Mid 1: Slow?
Low 1: Repulsion Field
Low 2: Crushing or Drain something?

Low Second Tree: Spirit Healer
Start: Cleansing Aura?
Top 1: Group Heal
Top 2: Passive Bonus to Healing?
Low 1: Revive?
Low 2: Lifeward on mage?

Low Third Tree: Blood Magic

My head hurts.:pinched: But I think I got many of them right.:) Spirit Healer was hard and since we don't know what the first Specialization is (not Force Mage, anyway), that was even harder.

Posted ImagePosted ImageI'm almost positive that's what they are as well.  The specialization squares are dimmed out at the bottom because none have been unlocked yet.

The one way I can imagine to improve the system (and maybe they've done this and just not told us yet) is to have synergies between some abilities. So, perhaps the end talent in each group becomes more powerful if you max out the group. Or a talent with more than one pre-req would be stronger if you had both rather than just one.

DAO talents had synergies like these, so I'm half expecting them in DA2.

I wonder if you could do something with magic exept just applying it to enemies. Like "force persuasion" with blood control in a dialogue.

or like threaten someone with a hand of flame or lightning (witch hunt cover comes to mind) or turning a foes minion into stone for intimidation.

Lightning isn't included in the elemental tree, that's strange. Or is it something different now? Left middle tree has something that looks like lightning.

Off topic: Omg, female Hawk in the screen looks like an attractive guy, pretty much how I imagined my male Hawks face....

Edit: Or is the second one lightning? It looks very much like a keeper tree.

They already had mage intimidation options in Origins.

I hope they fixed the certain synergy Blood Magic had. . .I never really had a reason to use Blood Sacrifice, for instance, but on the other hand Blood Wound was pretty broken. Half the time I'd just activate Blood Magic, cast Blood Wound and drop it once it wore off.

Also sustainables didn't drain health like they probably should have when you activated them while Blood Magic was active.

I have a feeling Force Mage is probably going to be some kind of Non elemental magic master, to reconcile the removal of Arcane Warrior.

harid. Those intimidation options were the same for all the classes. I dont recall a moment where my mage used a display of magic to intimidate. Sure ive told ppl im a mage, but no hair on fire for them.

Also it looks like the original primal school has been split into fire and ice and called ELEMENTAL and lightning and earth for ? Im guessing the name may be primal. Hope so too.

Lightning appears to be in the Nature tree.

Hawke is level 4 and have 4 spells.

Then, no extra spell in first level?

That would be great.  Finally we get a game where being first level makes you ineffective again.
