Just a-wondering: what's the big deal
with the cloak-style head gear mentioned by oOKyeOo? What makes this
mode of head gear special in technical terms? It would seem to offer a
fair few challenges to the CC maker (there's a reason we've seen only
reskins of the new style of cloaks - or at least I've never seen them,
but your post implies that they exist) and I'd like to know what the
payoff would be.

I think cloak-style headgear might be easier for a builder to easily add to a module, no scripting required (just a quick edit of cloakmodel.2da), and the color can be easily adjusted in the toolset (or with dyes in-game).  VFX-based headgear requires scripting to match the gender & race of the wearer, and has no actual inventory item associated with it, so further scripting is needed to manage the effects (start them, keep them running, restore them after resting, etc.), and the colors can't be changed without making a new version of the model(s).

My preference is VFX-based, but that's simply because I've already got a system in place for making new head-aligned visual effects, have the base scripting already in use in my PW, and I'm not limited to 255 appearances.  Plus, I like my players' characters to still be able to wear cloaks at the same time.

i can answer that for you Posted Image

Now im not personaly sure how its done (or if its complex or easy for that matter) but the CEP team has a Cavelier hat that you can use in there system thats a cloak, it makes it REALLY versitile because you can add both cloaks and a robe style at the same time...

basicaly it allows the biulder/user/ w/e to have more options open to them... and it gives them a big break for any kind of hak file in terms of useability (besides having more cloak types can go a longer way than any "robe-style" hats)

I do believe that "Lisa" was the origional author of the cavelier hat, but im not entirely sure the CEP team has had it in there files for years which is the only problem about how they managed to get into a cloak style...

so the payoff would would be that its easy on the biulder, and its easy for the users if they want to download it and its already been so you have a template to go by (as far as if its easy to do... again... i cant say for certain...) hope that clears it up for ya! Posted Image

I have been coming to look at the challenges since late last year and have always wanted to join in. I am very new to modelling but I have been teaching myself for a while now in relation to refining old models.

Recently I made a bonnet and had considered entering it last challenge but it wasnt ready and I am not sure it is yet.. would welcome any critic to help me refine it

Posted Image

it was inspired by coulisfu's oriental hat where the lower face can be seen.

The skin, lips and hair are all customisable allowing it to be used as a disguise, or to be made to match the tones of the player character

textures are either fully my own, or in the case of the fabric of the bonnet the texture is a publically availble weave cloth texture

Bonnet suggestions:

You could improve contrast of fabric portion of the bonnet, so that the fabric patter stands out more. As it is now, it kind of blends together as a single color. Maybe something more like the fabric textures of the dresses. Of course, it might look better in-game with shadows, I just can't tell from this set of pictures.

Maybe use one of the base NWN heads for the face portion. Even with the shadows, it looks like the person has no eyes and has perfectly smooth skin, and basically no nose.

I think this one would work without the strap under the chin. The strap looks rather loose right now anyway, and it appears the bonnet would stay on and hold its shape without the strap/ties.

Welcome to the fun, Navarian. Ohhh, very nice to see more helmets with a "face".

10 days left in this challenge. Hmmm I had best get started on my promised scripts.

I decided against taking an old head to replace the original face I have, and instead refined my original model. Removed the ribbon as suggested by The Amethyst Dragon and decided to put a different ribbon on the bonnets crown. I also re-textured the entire model to give more depth and features to the overall bonnet. I have tested in in the toolset, as well as in game and it works fine

Submissions of finished work it said to be emailed to TheSpiritedLass or a link provided and since for some reason I cant find an e-mail I submitted the bonnet to the vault so that I could link here. Not sure if that is acceptable... but here it is...

Hey, there

I was just lurking about and thought I could post some notions for the CCC headgear:

Crowns, Ceremonial Headdresses(Egyptian, Arcane, etc), Gags or bindings, Feathers, Masquerade Masks, Gnomish ReBreathers, Diving bell (Scuba), Disguises, Veils...
Also: Turbans, porters (aka boxes) probabably more
Lastly, in the old vault was a halo model it required mods to v169 and a texture as I recall (+an emitter)
Just some ideas for those so inclined

Also, to submit a contribution, where does one send it these days?

Nice work on the texturing Navarian. The "body" of the bonnet looks much better, you can really see the pattern now. In your screenie, bottom left, the red one... it looks like the hair is clipping through a bit? There is a black speck?

Huh, never run into this problem before. If you still want your work included in the CCC vault post, I don't see why not? What does the rest of the group think??

Sounds like I need to make up an email account for this. *grins* I didn't post my personal ones to the thread simply because I didn't want 'bot spam mail. I'll take care of that before posting this month's content to the vault. In the mean time I'll PM you both with a email you can use until then. =)

I say include the bonnets in the combined Vault post. They look nice.

As far as emailing, you could just set up a quick gmail account (web-based and no shortage of storage space for submissions).

Rechecked the model and texture... couldnt see any clipping and I cant seem to replicate the black spot that is seen on the screen shot. Even retested the exact same bonnet in game again with no black spot there. Initially I couldnt explain it but then realised I used an older screenshot from in game... teach me to rename them too closely...

With adventurers' lives becoming more and more dangerous, the chances of death are fairly high. Fortunately, whether it's a sword or an arrow to the head, modern magic has come just so far.

Posted Image

Both are aligned head VFX. :)

(And no, I have no idea why I made them, either. They were originally on a rather large comical hairband but that whole clipping thing put me off, so I cut out the hairband and just left the sweet pain. )

Just a few more days to go on this challenge, folks. If you're interested, now's a good time jump in.

Ideas for scripters that don't require model-making or even 2da modification:

- How about a way for DMs to assign temporary head-aligned VFX during play? Could be used for marking a PC for some reason, showing a god's favor for a while, or whatever. Would work for a halo, arrow in the head, or even things like the tiki masks.

- You could make a trigger or conversation based script that automatically removes a PC's helmet when entering a noble's castle or a holy place.

- You could make an april-fool's/halloween script that temporarily drops a targeted PC into cutscene mode, removes the PC's head model (removes helmet and set's it to head 0) and makes them stand there doing the spasm animation and repeatedly applying one of the larger "blood" impact visual effects. (ok, this one's just evil) And then, of course, restore the proper head model when done with the cutscene.

Model idea:

- Spurting blood duration visual effects, aligned to head and impact nodes.  Could come in different colors to match the different creature blood colors in the game (red, green, white, yellow).  Imagine a PC with the arrow in the head vfx also spurting blood out the side of his head!

Creature idea (prefab):

- Floating Heads of Doom!  PC models, all body parts set to 0 (except heads), colored various shades, each with a different special power to unleash on unsuspecting PCs.  Beware the Green Halfling Head of Hangovers (with the ability to cast Bestow Curse repeatedly to lower ability scores)! Watch out for the Wicked Woman's White Head of Wasted Time (with the power to cast Tasha's Hideous Laughter 10 times/day)! mwahahahaha!

Food for thought. :)

*grinning over the sword to the head* Love it!

Head voice command is all set.

Posted Image

The color changing one, to set it to a specific number, is nearly done. I'm wondering the value of allowing readable colors. For instance the basic colors like red, orange, yellow, green, blue. purple. brown, black and white. So the commands could be:

/hair 12

/hair red

Comments?

@Amethyst Dragon's suggestions - I have a trigger script that removes the "visible" gear (So helmet, armor, shield and weapons). Those Romans don't like you wearing stuff in their baths! It would be easy enough to modify the script to do just the head if anyone would like it.

@Amethyst Dragon: Your masks enticed me to play around with emoticons via VFX. I really like all the possibilities. Here's a demo, ignore the two "tests" on the left. The emoticon would be hooked up to an OnChat event, but I was too lazy to write it before recording the demo.

:D

*deadline reminder bump* The "official" deadline is Feb 28th. Realistically, I won't be working on the file merge until the morning of March 1st (which is Tues.) around 8 am EST. So that gives y'all a few more hours should you need it. I'll be adding an additional voice command set to toggle through all the new vfx. Possibly a generic command so all the vfx can be used but at the very least something that will display the new goodies y'all made.

Here is a summary of what goodies are on tap:
Estelindis - Circlets
Mistress - Voice Commands
Navarian - Bonnet
OldTimeRadio - Emoticon VFX
Rubies - Weapons to the Head
The Amethyst Dragon - Tiki Mask

Any lurkers out there with last minute additions? *grins*

Unfortunately I'm much too late for the party with this suggestion and I'm not even sure it would fit the theme exactly but I always thought we could do with another boy head or two for the halfling phenotype. For girls there's some nice variety while boys always have the same face and haircut, just different colors.

That's a great idea, Oliver. Honestly, halflings work great as "dynamic children," but there just aren't enough heads out there.

Circlets proceeding fine on my front. :-)

Will send you the parts later today. Some awful clipping issues on some races need solving! But otherwise all is in hand. :-)
