Hello Mass Effect 2 and Playstation 3 fans.

Next week, Mass Effect 2 will launch for the PS3. To celebrate, we have cut together a new ME2 on PS3 launch trailer containing some of the very nice things reviewers have said about the PS3 version. You can check out the new trailer HERE

Don't forget, ME2 on PS3 launches January 18 in North America and January 21 in Europe. Also, make sure you check out the demo available on the Playstation Network. :)

Just so long as any ME3 trailers aren't quite so spoilerific - I mean, you actually show the ending!! (i won't say where so as not to spoil it if you don't know)

oh yeah, and I hope PS3 fans have just as fun on ME2 as i did - it is incredible :)

Awesome trailer. Saw on the PS Blog that it'll be a 12GB DL for the full game off PSN. Before going that route, will the game have a mandatory HDD installation or an optional one? If so, what size would it be?

...Interesting. The trailer shows Ashley running through the burning Normandy SR1 at the start of the game, but I was under the impression that PS3 players would all have Liara at the start due to the comic being shown after the prologue (this determining whether Ashley was, ah, available for the opening cutscene). If Bioware has changed it so that the comic's at the start, thus allowing Ashley's prologue appearance, I'll be delighted. If not, showing something in the trailer that cannot happen in-game is rather bad form (and implies that the rest of the footage might not actually be PS3 footage either).

yes i have been wondering that too because in the beginning, before the comic is supposed to happen, miranda mentions wether u let the council die or not?

Will Mass Effect: Genesis come out for all three platforms next Tuesday to coincide with the release of the PS3 version?

Good point.  Maybe the comic only happened post-prologue for the demo.  After all, it makes sense from a continuity and customisation perspective to put it first, before anything else.

The comic doesn't exist in the demo at all.  As far as the final release on PS3, they've tweaked the dialogue and apparently dropped that scene entirely.  From twitter:

SirUlrichVL: @gtez if the comic plays out after opening scene does that mean the Miranda/TIM scene won't be there as Miranda mentions the council choice?

gtez (Jesse Houston): @SirUlrichVL yep and we changed a few other lines in the opening to make contextual sense.

I liked the music in the PC/360 one.... It was much more epic!

Still, I don't even have a PS3 and I am excited.

I must've gotten the previews mixed up with the demo - sorry and thanks for the clarification.

I'm guessing the crawl text at the very beginning has been altered for the final release too, since there are three variations for how you handled the "Save the Council?" choice.

Its nice that we have all released DLC content in ps3 version of ME2. It would have been pain to buy them separately...

The original Launch Trailer did this aswell. Showing the most awesome parts of the game.

I did wonder that myself when Jesse responded with those comments, but in the demo the crawl wasn't even there, so am wondering if it might be something else. Although other than the conversation between Pressly and Joker and the one between Shepard and Liara I can't think of anything else, so am guessing it is the crawl and it'll just have a generic crawl that doesn't mention the council.

Has got me wondering now though, because Europe PSN updates usually on Wednesday, which means if ME2 was available to DL when PSN usually updates it could be out on PSN 2 days earlier than the hard copy.

Edit: More on topic, with regard the trailer showing 'spoilers' I find it wierd for people to say such things seeing as when you first saw it, did you know where those scenes would be from? No, did they REALLY spoil it for you? Well, speaking for myself they didn't because as previously mentioned didn't know when they would appear and considering the briefness of the scenes in the trailer they didn't truly register until after playing the game and watching the trailer again. Considering how people clamour for scenes from games, as Khayness said, they had to show some really nice awesome parts. Although no tall of the awesome parts are in the trailer thankfully :P

in the trailer, gameplay scenes don't have HUD.
Is there a reason for that? Yes there is, of course.
They're taken from PC or 360 version (but presumibly PC)  not PS3.
Very clever, like usual in the marketing.
PS3 version will not have that smooth framerate.
Imho.

Sweet but short.

The PC/360 one was long and meaty. Take notes for the Mass Effect 3 launch trailer!

My first instinct was to dismiss this as console war flamebait, since I was pretty sure it's standard for the HUD to be toggled off in the trailers. I went and took a look at other trailers to verify that I had that right and as it turns out:

1. The sequence with an YMIR getting Slammed is lifted straight from the Overlord trailer.
2.  A clip showing a simultaneous Warp and Shadow Strike is taken from the Kasumi trailer.

So unless they've got some way to script specific gameplay sequences like that, down to exact camera angles,  at least some of that stuff isn't PS3 gameplay.  Also, a lot of the other gameplay footage is either from Lair, Kasumi, or Overlord,  so it looks like they've possibly used clips recorded, but not used, for those DLC's respective trailers.

There are only a few brief segments that are probably PS3 clips, going by apparently brighter colors. Best guesses on those: a certain YMIR fight involving crates, a couple tiny bits from Haestrom, an overhead bridge shot, the Tali mask thing, and two ending snippets.  Pretty much everything else is from the various pre-rendered cutscenes.

That said, an equally likely explanation is that using old clips simply saved them time.
