I've been thinking this ever since I saw the Templars skill list. Will a Templar actually be that effective against mages, their one and only class their skills revolve around. Lets break it down shall we?
Rightous Strike: Each melee hit drains mana.
Usefulness: If you've ever played an rpg of any kind, you'll know that if a mage has cast more then a handful of spells your party may already be at risk. Unless this drains a PC mage fast enough to prohibit them from casting spells before you target and kill them (which I doubt) this is a pointless skill. Mages are always killed first, you never go into endurance slug fests with them unless there a boss and bosses have immunities in pretty much every game.
Cleanse Area: AKA Mass Dispell
Usefulness: What skills are dispellable and what arent? Is this simply a mass debufer? This isnt guild wars, mages dont need buffs in order to cast spells effectively, unless this effects lingering AoE's and transormations this is another wasted skill.
Mental Fortress: Large Mental Resistence.
Usefulnes: Mental resistence? Not lets say... magic? Not fire balls and electicity? Not any spells except a handful of spells that actually try to stun or control the character? Usefull but not against mages especially. There are plenty of skills where you have to make a mental check but only some of them are mage spells. How is this supposed to help against a primal mage? It wont it case your wondering.
Holy Smite: Stuns target and drains mana bar, amount of mana drained turned to spirit damage on target mage.
Usefullness: Aside being a very expensive skill and wayyyy late in the skill progression, this is actually usefull and often argued over powered. I cant help but think this skill will simply not work against any mage boss that you will fight and high level mages will probably have some way to work around this spell as well (mana potions). In short a usefull spell but I'd need to see it in action against bosses and sub bosses to see if its as good as people complain it is.
Templar Stat bonus: +3 mental resistence (whoopee...) +2 magic.
+2 magic. MAGIC??? So you are litarally given magic stat, for the use of your one spell... a mass dispell (And holy smite if its not a skill) I guess your healing potions will do a little more... and thats being really optimistic when handed such a useless talent for a warrior.
