Well, not really. The warden was accomplished and could be unusually persuasive, but you could play the warden as a normal person rising to the occasion, although the game included more butt-kissing than I would have prefered. Flemeth saved them because the PC and Alistair were the last two wardens in Ferelden and she needed a warden baby, not because the PC was special. As to what Flemeth has to do with Hawke, can't comment on that. Sounds like you know spoilers that I don't want to. In any case, special powers isn't a plus for me. Whatever Flemeth does, I hope it's caused by something situational as was her rescue in DA:O, not my some inate quality of Hawke or special power.Maria Caliban wrote...
Hate to say it, but I don't think Flemeth would save Hawke's rear if there was nothing special about Hawke and/or their family. That's not the same as being the chosen one. The Warden was also special.

I'm fine with the exceptional persuasiveness, cunning and/or sex appeal, but the Warden's combat skills were always in need of an explanation for me. Some origins more than others.
The Human Noble descends from a family of barbarian warlords and veritable badasses and was trained for combat since s/he was born.
The City Elf's mother is implied to descend from some kind of elf big shot from Andraste's time, maybe Shartan.
The Dwarf Noble doesn't have as many justifications, but it's likely the combat training they received was above average.
The mages are... well, mages. PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER.
But the Dalish and Casteless origins were always leaving me a touch slack-jawed. I know this kind of thing happens in 99% of RPGs, and it's obviously a case of gameplay-story segregation, but it still vaguely bothered me.
Anyway, first playthrough for me will be a mage so I gues this'll be a non-issue, at least until I get to my female two-hander.

I'd prefer Hawke to have some kind of special power, even a small one (being a mage is sufficient, actually) because in DAO it always kind of broke my suspension of disbelief how a completely random dwarf peasant could defeat armies of trained mercenaries and superpowered monsters.

Dalish are famous to be deadly archers. THe Dalish Warden is probably a skilled hunter. Plus, you are son/daughter of the previous clan's Keeper. The dalish say that the Keeper generally descend from the Dales's most noble family.

As for the Casteless, we don't know WHY the line is casteless...

Hmmm.... I see your point. Since I almost always play a Cousland, I hadn't really thought about this. Still, having training isn't so much a special power and having a background that makes battle prowess believable. I think that can be done without making Hawke uniquely powered.Shepard Lives wrote...

And all this is giving me horribly evil ideas for when my best friend and I bite into the game and can start our own IRC rp on the subject after we learn more about the chars...

Shuffle-Step-Kick-Ball-Change may work on male enemies, for females I suggest Shuffle-Step-Trash-New-Hairdo-Change
or perhaps Shuffle-Step-Laugh-At-New-Shoes-Change

ok I'll tell you.....
Isabela says that that Hawke's special power can only be seen in the bedroom, apparently last time they were....ermmmm....intimate Hawke made Isabela shout out obscenities in fluent Orlesian she passed out from sheer bliss.....the only problem is that Isabela does NOT know any orlesian whatsoever
yes Hawke is THAT awesome

Chosen by Destiny has to account for at least 25%. Probably more.

I'm assuming Spirit Fingers is still achievable in the Dance Fighting skill tree? Though I wouldn't mind using River Dance as a sustained ability.
