Is it just me, or does it seem like this pistol is the best in the entire game (note I primarily play as an Adept)? I just completed my first Insanity play through (as an CQC Infiltrator -- actually pretty fun) and the times when I went to cyro ammo predator (particularly when fighting husks) and the amount of times it saved my life was remarkable. However, it just seemed awesome no matter what class I use primarily because it has pretty good stopping power, heat sinks seem to be very efficient with the weapon, good clip size and for a 'heavy' pistol it fires as fast as I can pull the trigger.

And apparently, it's not a military-grade weapon

For Shep, the choice is definitely between the Predator and Phalanx for me.

Best in game? I'm not sure. But with cryo it is solid in many situations.

Actually it seems to have the highest dam per thermal clip ratio. So you are right there Arijharn. I never added it up but I run around as a Adept too and find it to be a solid performer too!

Carnifex have far better stopping power than Predator and is almost as powerful as the Phalanx and i find it more accurate than the Phalanx outside of cover, Carnifex also strips away armor much quicker than Predator does.

sure the carnifex has better stopping power (and I always think of the Tyranid monster with that name too...) but it fires slower, has a paltry clip size (and thus is more punishing if you make a mistake) and I don't think it's as efficient with heat sinks as the Predator, although I haven't really looked too hard at it.



I prefer the phalanx over the Carnifex, but to me I think the laser is more of a hindrance than anything else, although I can't really explain why.

Yeah, i can understand why you prefer predator pistol in terms of clip size but it takes forever to kill enemies on hardcore/Insanity in which case they have already flanked you, sure infiltrators have sniper rifles but they aren't suitable to use in every situation.

Predator/Carnifex are pretty close in terms of DPS (Carnifex being a bit better). Predator has a higher ammo capacity in terms of total damage and a much higher ammo pickup.



In terms of clip size, Carnifex actually does more damage per clip than Predator (85.4 * 6 = 512.4 vs. 37.2 * 12 = 446.4).



The choice between them is largely a matter of taste.

Oh, I doubt people use a pistol as their 'primary' weapon anyway, so I'm not sure if that problem really exists. Unless you're saying that you use your Carnifex (or another pistol) more than say your AR or SR.

The only time I use any Pistol really is if
A) I'm conserving 'ammo' for whatever reason
I need to kill (or CC in terms of that CQC Infiltrator).
Because it's a heavy pistol I found that it's application rate for something like Cyro ammo was pretty high, and by quickly squeezing a couple of shots I could make use of it's CC effect and the double damage of the pistol and since it's a heavy pistol it does good damage against armor anyway.

For me, M-3 Predator is easily the best pistol in the game and I love using it. It is also the only pistol that actually feels like a pistol to me.

Stats-wise, all the pistols in this game are very close, so it boils down to which one you can personally use more effectively, imo.

I, for one, can't hit anything with the Carnifex or Phalanx (50% accuracy at best) for some reason, so I gotta use the Pred.

I end up wasting shots on the predator, and find defence stripping a little more inefficient. Carnifex out of cover is nice and accurate, and I like high damage slow rof weapons. Phalanx in cover takes the biscuit - feels like playing time crisis. Out of cover it is a little lackluster.

Phalanx isn't usable at close range (hate the delay) and Predator does pew pew, I like bang bang. It's the Carnifex for me!

Personally, I don't like the Carnifex or the Phalanx. The Predator is the best - it's accurate, it's pretty powerful and it has a high ammo capacity.

Does anyone know, is there a Predator fan group? Or we have to create one?

To me, through Predator is like an M9, the Carnifex is a .44 Magnum, and the Phalanx is like a .44 with a laser sight on it. Laser sights on revolvers are lame, but plain old .44 Magnums are sweet. So I run with the Carnifex.

My opinion is that the Predator works better if its serving as a primary weapon while the Carnifex/Phalanx serve better when they're used as specialty weapons.

On Widow Infiltrators or Adepts w/o weapon training, Predator has always seemed like the better choice. But for my Soldiers and Vanguards I've never seen the point in using it over the other pistols.

I almost never use my pistol but will have different pistols for all of my classes. If I need a sniper analogue I use the Phalanx If I need an armor stripper for my class I use the Carniflex If I just need a sidearm because I can do both of the above the predator is my weapon of choice.



Sometimes just putting more lead down the field wins the battle (and as a sidenote the predator is my fav)

It all depends on the class for me. If I already have a rapid fire gun, like a SMG or assault rifle, I'm compensating with a slow and powerful pistol. Plus it's pretty fun to whip the pistol out to do a mercy kill.

But I like the M3. It's almost a all-purpose gun for me. Except for long range.

For me the Predator becomes a beast with the upgrades researched and I take it late-game, Carnifex and Phalanx are handy once I can use them, Carnifex is a decent all purpose pistol and if I feel like sniping I roll with the Phalanx.

Ive just started using the polonium rounds in ME1 after god knows how many play throughs thought I'd give them a whirl and I can't seem to stop using them now I'm loving the fact that as well as so much damage for a certain amount of seconds the enemies seem to disolve lol even the geth  leaving nothing but a green stain on the floor. Yeah CmdrShepardsGirl. I have nenevr known Polonium rounds X were so powerfull with Expander X and Nano-Cooling X. I have always used Inferno X until my canon playthrough for ME2 and ME3.

i'm the same tbh the only time I use my pistol is if im all out of clips for my main guns usually the Locust depending on my class or my matlock rifle but the Carnifex I find is great for head shots when im not trained in the sniper class. When playing as a Soldier only then do i rely on my Viper.

Mmm i don't think i've tried that i deffo have to give that a whirl on my next ME2 playthrough  but i wholeheartedly agree i thought to myself wow I've been missing out on this ammo lol

The Phalanx is by far the best pistol in the game...provided you can aim with it. Best weapon in the game however is definently the Widow (Sniper Rifle).

You guys mentioned it before but running and gunning with the phalanx even holding the aim down and walking will put some horizontal sway just enough to eff you up. But I am so glad I have it on my engineer.

Once I've gotten a bonus weapon, I only use my pistol for very tough armored targets, so the specialized uses of the other pistols is fine. When the game first starts out, though, the predator is excellent to use, and its rate of fire and ammo supple make it a very practical weapon.
