Captain Kirk (Star Trek) wore a thin shirt and pants in all kinds of hostile environments and it did not distract from the story for me.  It would be nice for female shepard to have option for an outfit like Miranda's or Kasumis or Samara's.  Everyone has there own preference for RPGs.

A) I don't recall any episodes of Star Trek where Kirk and co. beamed into a chlorine gas or acid world in nothing but their Starfleet regulation spandex.

B) Armor hasn't been previously established in the Star Trek universe.

C) Starfleet is more of a diplomatic organization than a military one. It wouldn't exactly mesh with their peaceful utopian image if they were walking around in combat armor on diplomatic away missions.

D) Even in Star Trek, the crew have the sense to don sealed suits when going on EVA walks outside the ship, and not just slap on oxygen masks with their flesh and eyes exposed.

My two cents: I don't care if the crew runs around naked aboard the Normandy, but when in space, wear a spacesuit.

Also, ix-nay on the uttshots-bay.
