I recently bought a new machine, and have tried installing various games I have all with frustrating results, the original NWN + expansions, NWN2 and Baldur's Gate 2 SoA. When installing all of them I have a problem that causes the install to stop and kill itself off. I get an access denied error when the install is about 34% on a full install and to 45% on a recommended install.
I'm right clicking the icon in the computer window, exploring and running setup.exe as an administrator, but this doesnt seem to be making any difference it's the same even i jusr run it 'normally' through autorun. And I'm on home premium, so I don't have the option of xp compatbility. Is there anyting I can do?
Also a picture of the problem: i34.photobucket.com/albums/d101/jayrodtm/RAWRDGKASHB.png

Make sure you install them in a directory like C:\\games or something like that.

Are your Baldur's Gate games the original (e.g. the five/six disc version?) and the three/four disc version, that is are they all the original games? Or are they the 4-in-a box version? Or any other version out there? Can you make a full install? of both bg1 and bg2?
At least for BG1, and BG2, there is the option to rebuy them at [url]http://www.goodoldgames.com[url]. The company behind GOG has made installers that works with both window 7 and XP. NWN2 is from late 2006, so it should work on Win 7. [I mean, other games from late 2006 work on win 7...]
Is there a user access control in win 7? like in Vista? If there is, can you disable this user access control (UAC)?
Isn't there an option, like in XP, to install them, or run them, in compability mode? I mean, a mode just like, play in win 98 mode...
In Win 7 Pro, there is a mode called XP Compability mode, that is a virtual mode, simulating XP. At least that's how I understand this...

They are the original versions, I bought my BG2 when it came out way back years ago and ToB when it came out as well, and still have those original discs. I have the UAC s it treats everything as if you were to right click and "run as administrator." I dont have BG1, unfortunately, so I havent tried that one yet. I have Windows 7 Home, which unfortunately you can't use the compatibility mode in. You need office or better to use compatibility mode.
I might have to rebuy them from GOG then.. blah. Kind of annoying though, that I cant get this to work.

If you're installing to c:\\black isle\\bgii - soa\\ have you checked this directory hasn't been left by a previous install with read-only files in it, or started under a different logon id etc.
If you haven't installed to the program files location I don't think you need to run setup.exe as administrator.
Also, has your c drive got plenty of space free or has it been partitioned elsewhere etc.

There might be another option. though. On the Microsoft website, you can download something called Virtual PC, which makes a hard disc, or part of a hard disc think it is a win 98 computer. I don't know if this is difficult to use, since I haven't done it myself....
Is is the normal version of windows 7 home you have or do you have win 7 home premium?
As you can see here, in Win 7 Pro, there is an XP mode in Win 7 Pro.

Have you tried disabling the UAC in Win 7 Home?
Have you tried cleaning the discs? Over time, litte cracks can get into the discs. Also, it might help to let the discs spin all the way up, and all the way down when installing the game. This helped me install BG1 from the five/six disc original version.
If you need to buy BG2 from GOG, it''ll set you back around 10-15 US dollars, I think...

It's a brand new PC, with 498 GB of hard drive space free to install on. And I have the UAC disabled. It's Windows 7 Home Premium.
Edit: So unless whoever told me 7 home premium cant run compatibility mode was wrong or I just got a stroke of luck, I was able to install SOA + TOB running in 98/ME compatibility. But now I'm having a completely different error that I'm trying to actually run the game. Sometimes it pops up, other times it just stops trying to run the game and lets me try it again. But every time, it sends me to the configuration screen, keeps the settings i had previously set, and then gives me this delightful little pop up: http://i34.photobuck...yrodtm/rage.png

Did you install the game in C:/ games, not in Program Files?

I installed it in c:/blackisle/bgii-soa. So, still a different directory, and not program files.
