I'm obssessed with the Viper, I love that gun, and it worked wonders for my Vanguard.... it was almost too powerful...

I know Adept= defense stripper class....and long range, but the mattock looks pretty...

I don't know. Do Adepts focus purely on long range, or does having a medium weapon help?

I was going to pick the AR, but the tempest/locust smgs are good for that...

I'd go with the Mattock for the simple reason of hating the Sniper scope when you use your powers.

I'd take Mattock over Viper any day and twice on Sundays.

Before the arrival of the Mattock, I would have cautioned against taking Assault Rifles as they have a lot of overlap with SMG's, as you pointed out. The Mattock, though, is different enough that it diversifies your arsenal. And SMG's will still be useful should you run out of ammo.

Honestly I'd take a Shotgun though.

Depends on what you are using it for. If you want to make it your primary weapon then the mattock is the way to go due to it's better versatility and thermal clip to shot ratio. If you just want something for specific circumstances (harby, scions, gun ships, insert high armor mob here) then the viper is better.

For me, the Locust is a great all purpose weapon. All I really need is a high damage armor stripper for the enemies sino mentions. I think the Viper would be a better choice here. Yeah, there's the sniper zoom thingy, but it's only every now and then, so it's not too bad.

I'd say the Mattock. No annoying scope thingy and you can walk and shoot. Depends on your playstyle actually.

But TBH, now I'm taking a shotgun with every class in the Collector ship

Main difference is casting powers through scope or not. Mattock for flexibility, viper for more sporadic use on big enemies (ymirs/scions/praetorians etc...).

In any case have you considered shotguns and the GPS?

the only gun that matters is the GPS, and this is comming from an AR spray and pray lover. the GPS is where its at, 2 turn tables and a microphone.

holla.

I'm doing the same ( Infiltrator and Engineer ).  What sg do you use - Evi or Scmitar or Geth?

I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm with the Spamming Troll on this one. As much as I've ****ed about the GPS, shotgun sniping is hella fun.

I like the Scimitar very, very much. But these last weeks I'm diggin' the Claymore. I used it in a couple of missions with my Engie. I also reloaded the DCS mission with my Vanguard. Usually took AR, but this time was the Krogan shotgun.....
As for the GPS, it's a helluva weapon. No discussion. But it just doesn't "feel" like a shotgun.

The GPS is pretty amazing. Best shotgun in the game, easily.

Viper, for the heavy stuff. Other defenses can easily be taken out with SMG and Pistol.

Wow. I'm even more torn. I see Zaeed using the mattock all the time... but the viper shreds through so many defenses....

-pulls hair-

I never thought about using a SG for an Adept though...I tried the GPS once on my Vanguard, and I wasn't impressed with it actually...

It all comes down to personal choice and playstyle, In an adept playthrough i chose ar training to use the mattock and i painfuly regretted it after a while. chosing either sniper or shotgun training is much better imo, it unlocks alot more options in combat and a more varied playstyle.

All things considered, I'd recommend the Viper. The Mattock is definitely the superior weapon for a standard gun - but the Locust (in the hands of an Adept) isn't that far behind the Mattock in that department, and neither weapon can stand up to the Viper's long-range performance (as one would expect).

Still undecided?
Yes I agree that the alternatives to GPS on a vanguard (claymore/evi/scimitar) are nicer choices.
But for an adept, GPS is the weapon of choice, for me at least; excellent defence stripping at all ranges, and good synergy with powers. For extreme long range, take the phalanx if you need it, but this is a rarity in the game.
My adept runs around with mattock and gps (thanks to ini modifying), but I find I hardly ever use the mattock.

mattock, hands down and as far as the viper goes I take mantis over it any day of the week - gotta love those headshots.

I'm surprised you like the Mantis. It's just a poor man's Widow, and while the headshots can be devastating (though not fatal), the Viper has the ammo and rate of fire to put down way, WAY more enemies in an equal amount of time. Having played both a shotgun and mattock Adept, I think I prefer the Shotgun. That probably stems from being someone who enjoys using the Tempest (I don't have the Kasumi download yet) and the Predator. I've never felt like I needed a better ranged weapon than those and my powers. I'm sure the Viper is amazing, but the shotgun (the GPS specifically, or the Evi) give the Adept a lot more killing power at the mid- to short-range. With a Singularity up, you can run in and get your murder on as well as any Soldier or Infiltrator.

It is all about playstyle. Sit back caster, with Locust available, then take Viper and use locust with it as your main weapon. Medium/long range caster without Locust, take the Matlock and use it as your primary gun with Tempest as shield stripper back up. Medium caster with some CQC take Matlock and use are primary. Pure Vanguard in an Adept body, Geth or Evi shotguns.
