Hi everybody Im new to these parts :)

Ive only just got into mass effect 2 recently and Im really loving the game, the story and gameplay is awesome. i cant wait for the release of ME3.

Ive completed one play through on normal but Im now gona try playing it through on insanity for the achievement.
My first character build was a soldier which I thought was cool but Im wondering what all the other setups do.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should try setting up for a new play through?

Also what is your favourite build ?

I like the Adept best, but it's not the easiest class to play on Insanity. Soldiers are easy, Sentinels are a laugh (with Assault Armor you've to try hard to kill yourself). I recommend to play Vanguard next. They've got an awesome ability and it will help improving your CQC skills, which come in handy if you decide to play one of the other classes next.

ME2 combat is at its best up close and personal :P

Check out the strategy guide sticky for some info and gameplay videos.

My favorite is adept. As pointed out they have a bit of a learning curve. My next favorite is the engineer, it used to be Vanguard. But the drone is just awesome, and it actually makes a lot of fights seem easy.

My standard build for most classes, is max out class unique power first.(adept it is singularity, vanguards charge etc), next max out class passive, after that I branch out a bit depending on class.

Vanguard's got a pretty steep learning curve; it take a while to learn when to charge, where to charge, what to do after you charge, etc.... But it all comes down to the charge.

Infiltrator's the same but different. It has a heavy reliance on cloak, but uses its other abilities, too. It has has a much gentler learning curve. Also, you played a soldier, so I'm assuming your aim is pretty good.

The sentinel's very versatile, and has awesome defenses. That said, a lot of people think that they're overpowered. I personally think they lack the flare of other classes. They're still pretty fun, though, I guess.

Adepts and engineers both rely on the versatility and adaptability of their moveset. They might seem weaker at first, but used properly, their crowd control can lock down an entire battlefield. The engineer's my personal favorite.

I can only agree with the previous posters description of the different classes, not much to add really. Just keep in mind that, in general, the more reliant a class is on firearms the easier the transition into Insanity is going to be. But ultimately go with whatever you want, my first play-through on Insanity was with an Engineer and it went perfectly fine.

I have played all but adept saving that one because there are some crazy adept vids out there. And I'm just going to throw in my 2 cents and say engineers should be changed to godgineers. Seriously no defenses are going to stand up to you because you can spam powers so quickly. I thought the Sentinal and Infiltrator were easy until I started an engineer and realized this is the most op class. It just seems like Bioware gave that class some extra loving care if you wand to play on insanity.

My suggestion for power progression would be focused on getting all of the powers I'm going to use and not put any more than 2 ranks (like overload get it to 2 to unlock incinerate get 1 incinerate) Put some points in your class skill because the power cooldown is what makes engineers godly. After that max your drone and then any power you want. By the time your level 10-15 you should have all the powers you're going to use for your build and almost have drone and your class power maxed

Engineers are hard to get used to, though. Their lack of defenses means you'll either use a lot of medi-gel for the health/shields, or you'll spend a lot of time hiding in cover and miss the point of the engineer. You have to get used to using all your powers in conjunction and locking down enemies with CC. Also, you can't be afraid of re-speccing. Incineration is next to useless against synthetics, but AI hacking makes synthetic levels faceroll.

My best advice is, if you are a gamer of only average skill (competent at shooters, but not really in the "Good" catagory) like me, save on the Normandy before every mission. If you run into too much difficulty, it's nice to be able to re-load on the Normandy and go do a shorter/easier mission first, to get a level/upgrade. If you're in the "Good" catagory or better, then you'll probably do fine and won't need the aforementioned tip.

As to class, my first successful Insanity run was as a Soldier. However, Infiltrator is also good, as is Sentinel. Vanguard, Enginner, and Adept all have at least a minor learning curve, especially if you like to hang back more often than press the attack. However, they're all fun.

Incidentally, my successful Soldier took the Revenant, and had Hardened AR, Inferno Ammo, Squad Cryo, and Heavy Disruptor. I don't recall what my bonus was (Slam maybe?) as I respecced and put the extra point in Concussive Shot, and then proceeded to never use it.

Nobody locks down and ccs like an engineer. But would have to say if you're starting a new game instead of a new game+ any class is doable and can be very fun and rewarding. Everything scales very well together. Now if you start a new game+ with a character that's lv30 that's a whole different story. (pro tip engineer +kasumi+rapid shadow strike=I ****ed in my pants)

Sentinel is great for just loling through the run. It's an extremely forgiving class.

My personal favorite build is a little boring, it's your bog-standard Widow/Mattock Soldier with Heightened AR, Commando, Squad Warp, Squad Disruptor, and Inferno Ammo.

I like the two biotic classes best (adept, vanguard). In the first case there is a lot of variety and in the second case a lot of fun. However, both classes have a rather steep learning curve. If you are looking for an "easy" class until you become better in the game I recommend the sentinel or the infiltrator.

My favorite build is the run-of-the-mill Squad Cryo Ammo Vanguard, perhaps with Slam as a bonus power.  That said, I'm one of the people that took a long time to get comfortable with the Vanguard.  Learning close quarters combat as a safer class, like the Sentinel or Engineer*, might be the way to go.

*The Combat Drone is an excellent defensive skill.

Highest learning curve, but once mastered incredible fun and will make you play every other class better: Vanguard
Inferno Ammo / Squad Cryo / Heavy Charge / Champion / Slam

Might be a little rough early game before an extra weapon is acquired but will steamroll mid-late game: Sentinel
Throw Field / Heavy Warp / Assault Armor / Guardian / Area Drain

edit:  fixed mistyped sentinel skill

Yeah, I agree that Sentinels have a slow beginning.  What's your build priority, if I may ask?  In what order do you master your powers?

You're post made me realized I mistyped one of the Sentinel's skills.  Now corrected.

Most say Assault Armor and Guardian first, Throw Field last.  In between, depends on mission order or player preference.  If you want to bring along Samara and Jack get to endless Warpbombing, Heavy Warp first.  If you want to get to stripping shields or prolonging Assault Armor, Area Drain first.  Can't decide; respec often.  Eezo is plentiful.  Once you hit level 29, you can both.

I just started my first Vanguard (on Insanity too) and I have to second the fact that it's a really fun and effective class to play as. Slam also works really nicely as a bonus power I might add. Although I disagree somewhat with the difficulty curve. I found myself getting into the swing of things pretty quickly. That said, when things go wrong they tend to go very wrong!

I thoroughly recommend giving it a go.
