So, really, what's the appeal of being
players 2 and 3 anyway? Come in for missions, cheer about your position
on the leaderboards, and then what? I'm not getting it.
I watch my friends play games like ME2, Fable, Fallout, and Dragon Age all the time. We talk about the game, the decisions, who to kill, who to talk to and when, what quests to do. The only thing missing is that I can't swing Ohgren's axe or fire Grunt's shotgun and help them. I want that.
I'm advocating a co-op mode that is completely identical to the single player game in every way except that I'm the one who moves Grunt around and kills people.I want to share a friend's single player game, see what decisions they make, and occasionally help them shoot stuff.
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 did the exact same goddamn thing and it was awesome.

Those were different times, and the partymembers didn't differ from the main character that much. They just don't handle the conversations and you don't get a game over if one of them dies. Gameplay wise it's totally different if you compare the ME 2 gimped squaddies to the player character.
You still have to appoint a Bhaalspawn if you are running with a custom made party, right?
I don't think it's different at all. Except that they have fewer skills, the squaddies aren't really that gimped. The main thing that gets them killed is ****ty AI. I don't mind at all that they aren't as "powerful" as Shepard (although some of them, like Thane could potentially deal a lot more bullet damage than Shep if they could hit anything). Regardless, things change, and the squaddies may see a boost in a future game. Either way, I'm just advocating the option.
