Do you know why I dont want multiplayer?

1. Multiplayer usually means a smaller singleplayer.

2. It means dlc wont be great side quests, it will be crappy map packs.

3.It means listening to racist 12 year olds sing down a mic, and give abuse everytime you kill them.

4. It means, almost every other Bioware game will include multiplayer.

The only way to end this thread is for anyone not to post.

Simple reason why MP isn't good.

Timeline:
BW adds MP to Mass effect
(not even going to mention time being taken away so lets just assume its by a different studio)
New players come only interested in MP.
New player tries singleplayer, skips most dialouge.
New player: "The singleplayer has too much talking and not enough explosions!"
BW changes game into Michael Bay movie.

This happened enough with ME1-2

Damn right.  It seems that adding mp to this game would be pandering to the general crowd.  I personally was disappointed with ME-2 as the sequel to ME-1 precisely because of the "streamlining".  MP seems like more of the same thing - making the game appeal to the biggest audience possible.  If I wanted to play a shooter, i would buy a shooter.  If I want to play a good console RPG then I look to Bioware or Bethesda.

Also, ME3 is not a ordinary game.  It is the finale in an epic trilogy that will have to cover over 1000 variables spanning not only from itself, but from two previous games.  I want ME3 to be as large, expansive, intricate, and epic it can possibly be and focusing on any other feature would take from that.  I am whole-heartedley against anything that takes focus from the SP mode of ME3.

I think one day Pwner1323, you'll come to terms with you and Shepard going your seperate ways and be a stronger person for it. Love is a fleeting, transient thing.

Okay, now *that's* weird.

I, deep down, know MP would ruin the game. I guess I can gamble and hope for a 4th down the road. Fine, ME3 doesn't need MP and hope for a good SP (epic) ending.

If any mods are out there, please close the thread... or we can goof around until they do.  Image IPB

what the hell are you talking about having co-op would make the game a million times better

So, really, what's the appeal of being
players 2 and 3 anyway?  Come in for missions, cheer about your position
on the leaderboards, and then what?  I'm not getting it.

I watch my friends play games like ME2, Fable, Fallout, and Dragon Age all the time. We talk about the game, the decisions, who to kill, who to talk to and when, what quests to do. The only thing missing is that I can't swing Ohgren's axe or fire Grunt's shotgun and help them. I want that. I'm advocating a co-op mode that is completely identical to the single player game in every way except that I'm the one who moves Grunt around and kills people.

I want to share a friend's single player game, see what decisions they make, and occasionally help them shoot stuff.

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 did the exact same goddamn thing and it was awesome.

Those were different times, and the partymembers didn't differ from the main character that much. They just don't handle the conversations and you don't get a game over if one of them dies. Gameplay wise it's totally different if you compare the ME 2 gimped squaddies to the player character.

You still have to appoint a Bhaalspawn if you are running with a custom made party, right?

I don't think it's different at all. Except that they have fewer skills, the squaddies aren't really that gimped. The main thing that gets them killed is ****ty AI. I don't mind at all that they aren't as "powerful" as Shepard (although some of them, like Thane could potentially deal a lot more bullet damage than Shep if they could hit anything). Regardless, things change, and the squaddies may see a boost in a future game. Either way, I'm just advocating the option.

No, because multiplayer doesn't add to story or character depth/growth, which are the two things Bioware is known for, and excel at.

Baldur's Gate was a pretty story-intensive game, but Bioware managed to squeeze in co-op.

Yeah, but you truly can't compare that to Mass Effect's gameplay. You could take control over your party members and play with them, the gameplay mechanics were more refined for co-op to begin with. The same thing in Kotor or JE could have worked.

While shooting things up with Grunt might be fun, but going afk for 5 mins to make some food while the host is having a conversation with somebody isn't. The gameplay is so focused on the main character and deliberately made as cinematic as possible that I would be bored out of my skull and just leave to play my own campaign.

It wouldn't be co-op, but Follow the Leader.

They already have a ME style online game in the works it called Star Wars The Old Republic. http://www.swtor.com/

Why ruin something good, when you have something else already on the way?

The reason I don't want Multiplayer is fairly simple: People are goddamned idiots, and I don't want my gaming experience spoiled by having to deal with people. Nor do I want the quality of my game to be diminished just because it had to be rigged to feature multiplayer.

Multiplayer has no place in a single player RPG. Please, there are countless multiplayer games available, and they will always work better simply because the developers can spend all the time and resources on that aspect. So if you want to play a multiplayer game, why don't you just play one of those and leave the already few proper single player games that are even developed these days alone?

I can't believe Im falling victim to making one of these threads (wich I told myself i wouldn't do) but Im sick of people going on about ME3 being ruined if MP is implemented. Nothing gets past you does it.

That absolutely killed me. Sarcasm as its very finest.

OT: I haven't read the whole of this thread so I may be repeating other people, but multiplayer in ME just doesn't make sense. I mean, it's retarded enough to imagine 8 different Commander Shepards running around shooting each other - especially considering that Commander Shepard is meant to be unique, the best humanity has to offer. But secondly, it's retarded because the single-player gameplay just WOULD NOT work in a multiplayer setting. None of the class-specific skills - in fact, none of the skills, full stop - would work without being horrendously overpowered. The only way it would work would be to even out the playing field and remove all powers, making it just Gears of War in a prettier dress.

What do you expect? For BioWare to invent an entire new set of game mechanics just for the multiplayer? It just wouldn't work.
