Boycotts work wonderfully, as evidenced by the Modern Warfare 2 boycott:

Btw, actually Dragon Age 2 is in third place for sales on Steam and only because Chronicle of Riddick is on Steam Sales at 5 €. Pretty nice boycott going on... Bioware and EA won't sleep tonight :D.

LOL

Yeah, DA:O Was #1 along with the SE edition taking up #1 and #2 last year.

At launch. Not pre-order.

That's it. I wanted the DA2 signature edition through Steam as well. I'm boycotting DA2. Never mind my MS-paint drawn avatar. Never mind my Signature edition pre-order for a physical copy. It is so being boycotted until March 8th (or whenever it shows up in the mail). I'm cheap and got super saver shipping from Amazon... So take that Bioware and EA.

Actually, IIRC Dragon Age: Origins was #1 one the steam chart for a week or two prior to release.

That's because Valve released a great product, had multiple sales and released extra free content. What has EA/Bioware done? They were able to regain our trust, I am waiting for EA/Bioware to do the same.

That wasn't the issue the boycotters had. The issue they had was that it was being released at all. They didn't want a new game with new Survivors, they just wanted their old game patched and free DLC.

And it worked wonders, amirite?

Threatening a boycott makes you seem like a child. They never do anything.

I mean, what exactly are you upset about? That you didn't order the SE in time, because one distrubution center wasn't offering it? Where is the paper companies sign saying they must offer exclusive editions anywhere they can be possibly be sold? You don't need the SE, and you're not going to get it. What has been lost to you?

Tell me, did it ever occur to you that Steam might be just as responsible for witholding precious free content as EA is? Maybe more?

What about about a blockade?  It's the boycott for grown-ups.

An internet blockade! Quick, everyone, go to the Steam forums and say how you refuse to leave the thread! This will prevent people from buying DAII.

You have no idea why or how much I value the service.  If this was done to amazon, or best buy and everything was a gamestop exclusive I would be just as irritated.  The point being, this was intentional, this was very low class.  All I want is to be able to pay for the content, if that requires paying 20 dollars for the 20 dollars of "extra" content, then so be it, but not giving me the option at all is just plain wrong.

It's not Bioware's or EA's fault if you value Steam service more than its content. You had alternatives and you choose not to consider them: deal with the consequences and stop blaming someone else but you.

And you have no proof to say that it was intentional or to blame only EA/Bioware and not Steam. Even in that case: those things happens all the time because gaming it's an industry and company are competing for market share. Steam is becoming a monopoly who forces you to install the system on your PC to play certain games and that's never good for gamers.

If you start to boycott each game because of those thing, you will finish to play only indie games.

If money is not an issue, buy the normal version on Steam and the separate DLCs on Bioware store.

Let me say it again, perhaps you will read it this time.  You have no idea how much or how I value steam.  I can buy it at retail and add the launcher to steam, FINE, that works just as well as buying it on steam.

I cannot go to amazon and buy it, why.... BECAUSE IT ISNT THERE ANYMORE.

Stop saying people are doing the wrong thing, when you have no idea what the issue at hand is, or even why it is an issue.

Well, this is my very first comment in this Forum, and I am only posting here to complain a bit about Biowares/ EAs behaviour with the Steam Version of Dragon Age 2.

I have purchased ALL my games digitally during the last ~2 years (except there's a nice Retail Collectors Edition arround where I am able to register my key later to my Steam account, so it will happen at Shogun 2s and Homefronts CE Editions - both already pre-ordered at Amazon and they will be bought once I get confimation that I will be able to register these games at my Steam Account - which will most likely be the case, considering SEGAs and THQ latest PC releases that all came with Steamworks) at Steam, since it is the Download Service that offers me the most benefits and is the best-developed system all in all. But since there is not the slightest chance that this will be possible with EA games in the near future I have to buy them directly in the Steam Store.

I am also a fan of Bioware Games, which caused me much trouble the last weeks because Steam seemed to be the only platform that wasn't allowed to offer the Signature Edition (digitally) - whatever is the higher reason behind this shall be discussed by others, I am not here to rage about EA or paritipate in conspiracy discussion, I'm basically just sad that my favourite platform was ignored that way, and with Steam I as well as a Steam customer.

To "solve" this issue (since I wanted both the digital extra cookies and the downloadable Soundtrack of the Signature Edition) I pre-ordered it Retail now at Amazon.de AND at Amazon.co.uk (still thinking who'll be allowed to in fact deliver it to me, UK is way cheaper, but hurr, a Role play in anything but your own main language ..... :--/ ). Considering the fact that I still want it at Steam I hope that there will be a way to "transfere" digital content from on version to the other, means: I purchase the game both at Amazon and Steam, and hopefully the extra content comes as a seperated code (in that case I'd simply gift the basic game itself of the retail copy to a friend of mine) or register both version and hopefully be able to use the Signature Extra Weapons at my Steam version as well. And yes, I know this is insane and a money waste, but I don't care about extra money for a game I like .... besides: what else to do?! :-/

I just want to point out that I am DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED by Bioware (or more likely: EA, since they are the ones that are in charge to decide such stuff as the owner/publisher of Bioware). I do see the point that Steam is a concurrent platform to EAs own Download Shop, but let me underline my stand: I will never use any other Download Store but Steam, since it is the only platform that doesnt offer me just DRM but some real Pros (like the Ingame overlay as an example, that gives me Inter-game chat to my friends and a Browser).

I am definetely not a pirate (proof: My Steam Accounts Game count ), and in fact I hate everyone that is not willing to pay for the entertainment the hard working developers are providing them with, but when I consider that - just like at any other game - I could simply have the game with ALL available content for "free" and without any restrictions or limited pre-order stuff at only a few platforms .... well, just saying. The only thing you achieve with this is enrage loyal customers just as myself and various other Steam Users.

Since this discussion is more about the merits of Steam as a platform, I'm going to shut it down and invite people to continue the discussion in our Off-Topic forum. If you wish to continue to talk about Dragon Age II and can stay on topic, please start a new thread. Thank you.

End of line.

But it was written everywhere that the SE offer was limited in time!

Really, I do not understand you. Go on with your crusade and don't play DA2. It's your loss.
