I wish he hadn't been permabanned. He really was a voice of reason around here, despite us not agreeing with everything he'd say.

Yeah, since late October, I believe. He's very active on YouTube, though.

I do admit that those vids were really entertaining and funny.

He was banned? Wow, I knew he got under a lot of peoples' skin, but why?

Seconded; what happened? I always thought the guy was an idiot, but if they permabanned you for that they'd decimate the forums.

Yeah, I watched the video as far as the first of his five points and just thought: "That's your criticism? Because Bioware didn't use the resurrection as an exposition to change for Shepard?"

I think they just wanted to create some dramatic effect and create a new ship and killing shep and destroying the Normandy achieved that.

I can't really criticise Bioware for not going deep. the game was 40 hours of fun and didn't lack character depth at all.

I admit I never thought he was very sound or a voice of reason. He just played the tune that no one else played.
Counterpoint for counterpoints sake is interesting, but is it anything else?

A lot of the story details were lost in the RPG v. Shooter mechanics. As such, this has been parsed for months by numerous people and I will not rehash it here. We gained some things with ME2 and lost some things with ME2, but essentially ME2 was essentially filler for ME3 and the story usually suffers because of that.

I expect ME3 will shift a little toward the RPG side and correct much of the story failures of ME2. Telling a story is a process and sometimes the process gets lost in VFX and action. It happens to the best, but I believe that ME2 can stand on its own as gaming achievement. Is it perfect? No, but it doesn't have to be because it is entertaining. That's my .02 on it.

Same here, I watched the Star Wars prequels video reviews from Mike from Milkwaukee and his 'boring' voice actually made the reviews incredibly fun to watch. Plus the fact that he was spot on. This however, I find it hard to finish it, the guy has such an incrdibly boring voice. Some points were good, but I mean, its not like we're hearing many new things here.

As has been said, some of the critiques he makes have been around for a long time and are viable. But many others show off his ignorance or simple bull-headedness in an attempt to format his discussion like RedLetterMedia, and make as many other allusions as possible without being a direct rip-off. For instance, he supports the assertion made in-game of "sub-zero temperatures" in space killing Shepard, when this really isn't what happens in vacuum exposure at all. In doing so he shows off his ignorance, and that maybe he shouldn't be critiquing a science fiction game on its scientific merits. Anyway, he jumps the gun a lot and doesn't have totally sounds arguments.

The guy does make some very valid points in his criticism but overall that guy is a narcissistic idiot although in my books, he isn't the worst one on the forums.

Whatever else he was, Smudboy wasn't an idiot. He wasn't always right, but he when he was wrong it was nearly always from overthinking something from a particular direction.

Agh. The Youtube guy really annoys me. It's the same kind of person who tries to prove religion or that aliens come here to make crop circles. Stupid idiot.

It's like he completely forgot that:

1. this is a game where people with biotic powers fight each other with guns an can survive miltiple shots to the head.

2. the technology and culture in ME is completely different from what we have today, so why the hell is he comparing?

3. he can't do better. You may say that he can and he can argue his case, but ultimately, he can't do better. Because it was done. Period.

We should be sticking up for BioWare, people. Not for nerds with no life and little brain.

Since you guys agreed with each other mostly, you haven't seen some of the ridiculous things he did in order to prove that his opinion was right. (Books, comics, DLC are not canon etc)

I like his videos, he really manages to bring forward all the problems, with the main plot, While i do agree that sometimes he will talk to much about a certain element, i have to agree with him that the overall back story of Mass effect 2 is one worst i have ever seen if you look at it from a trilogy perspective.

You look at it from a trilogy perspective with the third game not going out for at least a year? Hm.

Yes i do, and you should do it too, All Mass effect 2 did was time killing, there was really no plot progression at all outside the scene that Shows the Reapers powering up and moving towards the Galaxy, the might as welll just have shown that footage at the start of Mass effect 2 and then started Lair of the Shadow broker.
