If it was a Brady or Prima guide, I would've skipped it but it's a Piggyback guide so I will not doubt the quality.

This was my thought process, I actually ordered this 2 days ago when it first appeared at Play.com. I rarely buy guides but I sometimes splash out on collector's editions like this one for the sake of it. I probably won't use it much, but the codex will be a nice read and if the description/picture is anything to go by it will look aesthetically pleasing.

in-depth analysis of the game’s underlying mechanics

I've seen guides before where their understanding of the mechanics was less than perfect.

And frankly, if the game doesn't already give us wholly accurate descriptions of how the mechanics work I'll be really annoyed.

I bought the DAO collector's edition guide for the artwork and descriptions/lore. Same reason here. I won't actually look at most of the guide until after I have beaten the game.

I might buy it if it gets any cheaper, but as it is I'd feel a bit silly paying about 2/3 as much again for the guide to a game I just bought. I'll just have to hope some kind soul puts up any extra little tidbits up on the wiki...

Can't wait just pre-ordered mine. I love collector guides, usually they have really nice bonuses.

Brit here. Amazon UK is selling it for £15, but I'm still a bit iffy considering I only paid £25 for the game.

Yeah, I actually meant Play when I said that. Amazon is selling it for £16.82, weirdly enough.

At least online guides can be updated for consistency with patches and bug fixes. A printed guide is going to be wrong forever.

And considering how they handled tooltips in the first game, and how they made this huge stink over how "complex" it would be to have calculations listed for each spell or ability, it was quite amusing to see a player throw together a mod that did just that in almost no time at all.

I have absolutely no faith that the tooltips for talents and spells will be anything but "each point in this talent increases your attack rating" or "this spell does heavy damage" both of which are so vague as to be near useless.

And for the people saying that you can look up all the walkthroughs and info you need on the internet, sure, but there's something to be said for holding a hardbound book in your hands and looking at the pretty pictures.

I nearly always buy the strategy guide. I rarely use it, however. I just like looking at the pictures :') Like DAO. I bought the strategy guide after I completed the game. :)

I've never bought a guide book. I roll my eyes when I see a thread from someone who has never played the game asking for a mod to allow them to use arcane warrior from level 1 because they read about how cool it was in a guide.

Sigh.

Whatever happened to playing the game and discovering things on your own?

When I got the ME2 CE guide, the "exclusive" behind-the-scenes pages were absolute crap. Stuff that had been already released to the public, that we'd already heard...eugh.

More than that, it was a terrible strategy guide. The SM was the worse--you'd think a strategy guide would tell you the best strategy to survive it. Hell no. Just send whoever you want in, and watch them fall like dominoes.

Why would you want to pay 35$ for a guide that's made completely useless by the internet? O_o

Completionist instincts. Or, you have a lot of money.

Did you read the thread? Your question was asked and answered.

Me? I like having the extra lore in the collector's edition in book form. And I like having maps with notes for finding the little things for sidequests when I replay the game with a completionist mindset.

Yes, I can get directions on the internet. Maybe even scans of the same maps. But not in a book that I can keep on the endtable by my couch. When my wife is hogging the laptop, I still have the book.

And I paid a lot less than $35. I paid $23.04 shipped.

Is my purchase justified to you now? I sure hope so.

I want one of these. Last time I missed out on the collectors' edition DAO strat guide; the one with all the devs' signatures on the flyleaf... this time around I need to be faster!

I know what you mean.  Now if they could just release a collector's edition bookcase, I can stop trying to find space on my shelves for my collectiion.;)

I'm actually kind of disappointed. If I like games, I buy the guide, CE if available. DA:O CE guide was awesome. This seems more like the ME2 one. If you read the description, it has only 16 more pages than the regular guide, but is $9+ more.

I hope it doesn't constantly showcase the author's Hawke. I hate the person who did the ME2 guide just for that. I don't want pictures of your Shepard. I want maps of sidequests. /rant.

Anyway, I'm getting a copy anyway, b/c I do <3 Bioware, but yeah, not getting too excited.

I must have this! I always make it a habbit to buy the guides(whether I use them or not,but I usually use them) to games that I love~ Heh,its a little presumptuous that I will love DA2 but I'll take my chances x3
