Do the expansion pack and DLC give you more freedom in the toolset?

I've always been interested in trying this game, but I've recently been considering being a Writer for videogames as a future career, preferably for a company like Bioware. I heard about the toolset, and that it's great practice for people who want to write Bioware stories, with creating dialgoue options and characters and such with a lot of freedom.

Is it worth the extra twenty bucks for the version of the game that comes with Awakening and a bunch of DLC? Does it add any features to the toolset?

No, the source material for Awakening and the DLC has not been released (and probably will never be). You can access the Awakening game assets and utilise that to some degree (e.g. using models and areas), but the DLC assets are almost universally encrypted to prevent extraction.

As far as writing goes, that really has nothing to with the toolset. If writing is your primary interest and you have no prior experience with modding then I would suggest that you would be better off approaching an existing project that is looking for a writer and offering your services.

Thanks a ton for the quick response.

As for why I'm getting the toolset, I have a bit of variety of interests when it comes to creating content. I wouldn't mind some scripting, and I hear that it's good for Bioware Writers to have some basic scripting abilities, anyway. And I plan on doing my own voice-overs, maybe recruiting some friends for some help, depending on the number of characters and each one's personality. I do have some small background with modding, though it isn't extensive.

Mostly, I just want to put something together myself while I'm learning the ropes of how it all works. Writing is by far my main attraction, though it will be nice to try out some other aspects as well. Once I have a basic idea of how everything works, I'll probably sign on to some mod projects as a Writer if anyone needs one.

You can add all the areas from the DLC as well as Awakening, which I find useful sometimes. And Awakening is useful not only for the areas, but to have the face morphs and animations as well as the items.

I think Darth's advice was good, though, since you're primarily interested in writing.
