It's just a visual embellishment.

... What? <.<; Why?

The outfit is nice enough, it just looks weird and in the way to me.  Who came up with the idea to put up a random metal .. Basket thing on the chest? o.o

it gives freedom to the neck and head and it can protect from many things like swords etc...

Hm.. If you say so, dosnt seem like it'll really protect against anything. Will block your view if you want to check what is at your feet too

No...the staff of parthalan can only be used by mages. Some of the staffs that mages use have blades and are like staff/swords. Thats y i'm being a mage, because mages can know use swords!......sort of!!!

Except you'll die immediatly once they start hammering at you :P You get a melee animation, not the damage skill of a warrior :P

I wish I understood where you got this idea from that mages can do melee. Is there a place you read it? I'd love to read up on this

There is a good chance that you are wrong. Mages do not do proper melee damage. What happens is next: once your opponent is close enough to your Mage, your Mage switches to the melee animation but he/she continues to do THE SAME amount of damage that he/she would do with basic staff attack (which is usually ranged and has notnhing to do with strength). I.e. Mage's ability to actually fight with his staff is purely cosmetic.

This.

As fun as it might've been, warrior would've been a pretty pointless class if mages could fight like one though :P

That was what I was wondering.  Thank you.  I didn't know is staff/swords did melee or magic damage even though the animation was as if Hawke is doing a melee attack.  Thank you for clearing it all up now!

Cool, the Warrior armor has a red scarf! I'm such a sucker for red scarfs! I'm gonna the use rest of the money from my new Xbox controller (or from my new PC, whatever) to buy a red scarf! Oh crap, I live in a place where it makes 40 degrees Celcius all year long... Okay, my Hawke get's the scarf...

Sure, no problem. I can see why it can get confusing.

It is for companions I belive.

Not for you though.. I'm still torn on what to think of that.

I think I would be okay with it, if it wasnt for companions wearing the same thing for 10 years -.-

They won't be. They'll change clothes accordingly, and as appropiate, instead of being stuck with one or two outfits the entire span of the game. Screenshots do show this, as well, though I'm not certain if they get more than three or four.

I'd love to know where you've heard this, becouse i've heard otherwise, they might change once though (As seen with Aveline)

But other then that, I expect the same thing throughout 10 years, with very small modifications, which is a bit disturbing.

Hawke can change his armor, but companions can only have their armor upgraded. Companions and Hawke can use different weapons though.

All I know is that you get the Champion Armor from different locations in Act 3...right?

Meredith's Armor and the Carver's Grey Warden Armor are the only decently looking armors in the game IMO. All the Champion armor's look like Ork Nob Boss armor from Warhammer 40K.

Is that confirmed? I always assumed that these armors were the starting outfits. Wasn't Hawke wearing the mage armor in the screenshots ofthe starting level?

Yes its called champions armor. You dont start collecting the pieces till act III. & Its possable to miss pieces, as you get them from quests & as boss loot. I remember getting a piece off of the high dragon, & its quest is complety optional.

the pieces are not cross compatable & you will never collect a pices from the other outfits on a certain character.Ie. warrior Hawk could never find a piece of Mage Hawk armor.

Another thing. It is the BEST armor in th game, Possable even beating out gltiched companion armor.
