Yes, it looks good.

It's still crappy graphics. The DX11 support is minimal, it's clear this game is emploring very little with new age PC technology, in terms of tesselation and other DX11 features.

It's sad because, with the era and setting of dragon age, tesselation of rock surfaces and well dragon scales would really turn heads. It's too bad bioware is now under EA and no longer cares about the quality of the games they make.

Compared to what?  DX11 support is minimal across the board.  Battlefield 3 is the only game I know of in development that will require a DX11 card (which happens to be an EA game).

It looks good, but it also doesn't? Okay...

A game shoouldn't need DX11 to look good. It's a nice bonus (especially for a multiplatform game), but not much more. It's not like many other games use it much either.

That reminds me: Half the time I couldn't hear those banters over the sound of my boots clacking. Hope the volume is raised a bit in DA 2.

I can't speak for the 360 version, but DA:O on the PC allows you to adjust the sound like most PC games do.  I always have Voice at 100%, Music if there's a slider at 50%, Sound Effects at 70%, and if they have an Ambient slider that's at somewhere betwen 50 and 70.  Depending how the individual game sounds I might adjust those accordingly, but voice is always max so I can here what is being said.  Explosion sounds, footsteps, doors opening?  Eh, they can be in the distant background as far as I'm concerned.

If I wanted explosions and no dialog I'd watch a Michael Bay movie.

Dudes!

It's not the size of the texture that matters-- it's how you use it!

That is really an unfair assumption.

I think Dao and Me had wonderful graphics.

DA2 as well, although I have other opinions on art style/UI but that's for another thread.

Oh well.

Would you rather the graphics look like the original kotor (great game btw) or even pac-man? No? Then stop whining.

Only in Kirkwall, but it makes sense in a city anyway.

I'm thinking of the new screenshots, like the ones in the caves - the caves themselves look very polygonal to me (in the early 3D sense).

I'm not really seeing it. Unless you're talking about the stones in the ground. Those rarely ever have round edges, even in real life.

The environments have more than enough polygons. Bioware should be focusing on the textures and lighting right now.

I'm smoking the "so sick of hearing people preach about Witcher stuff" drug that puts a haze of hatred over anything to do with the game.

It's an unfair situation to the game, sure, but the Talimancer haters can understand the sentiment.

So, again to be fair, I'm so not interested in TW2 that I'm not an objective observer.

Bias noted - no, I don't think TW2 screens that have been shown to me constantly are impressive.  *shrug*

Well at least you admit your bias. I'd have to be blind not to accept that The Witcher 2 had better graphics than DA2, or that Crysis 2 had better graphics than both. Such is the curse of objectivity, I suppose.

Actually, I'd like the DA2 team to prove it can provide a game with visuals that can match or surpass Bioware's last effort, ME2.

I hate to play this card but -
what you do MEAN by "better" graphics?  Is there some objective scale to measure against?  Aren't whether graphics are better or worse, ultimately, up to the eye of the beholder?

Is cubism worse than a photo because it isn't "real looking" or has less DPI?

I think it's mostly a matter of taste.  Does TW2 utilize more of an advanced graphics card's functions than DA2?  That may be possible, but it still doesn't make it objectively "better" just more technologically demanding. *shrug*

I don't think TW2 looks better than DA2.

And, further bias noted - I'm absolutely NOT a fan of the art style of DA2, so... take that for what you will.

...You got a game studio, who care about the story and characters...and you worry about graphics?

I wouldn't say Bioware games have crappy graphics. On the pc side of things I WOULD like to see current features like Directx 11 features supported but overall their graphics aren't terrible. I do however wish they weren't forced into using low res textures for environments just to make sure the framerate doesn't die on the consoles and end up using those same low res textures on the pc because it would cost more otherwise.

They did pretty well with the graphics in all of their previous efforts. Is it wrong to expect them to do the same here?

God willing they don't.

Who the hell cares about graphics... Graphics is just eye candy. Give me Black Ops and Call of duty 1 and I will choose CoD1. Give me The Witcher or Baldur's Gate and I will choose Baldur's Gate.

If you truly enjoy RPGs(and I think you do since your on bioware) you will know that even an ugly game can be much greater than the most beautiful game ever.

And whoever said that the quality of games went down since Bioware joined EA is just out of his mind. (and if it went down, it's still way above certain other games..*cough*CoD,fable*cough*

ok let's use an example

Darksiders
Posted Image

GoW2

same engine, same tech, same hardware

are you telling me that GOW has better graphics SOLELY because Epic Games went the route of hyper-realism in their game

is Darksiders less detailed or thought of?

come on

I can't speak for DA:O, But I can speak for Mass Effect series, when I say the Graphics are good, they are.

I played it on all three systems and I do declear there is nothing wrong with it.

DAII Artstyle already managed to beat Origins, so as far as I can tell, everything is in order.

The writing in Dragon Age / Mass Effect is so good i'd still play those games even if the graphics looked like they were top of the line 20 years ago. I mean, I still play all my old PS1 games (would play all my old amiga games if I still had the system). What I thought were amazing graphics at the time are looking extremely dated now but I still play them because they are fun.
