ME1 is... quite 'old' so to speak by this point ^^ however if you look at ME2 the whole "the visuals aren't good" theory goes right out the window. I do, however, agree with Dragon Age 2 not being that much of a "wow, they have really made this game look 1000% better than it's predecessor" like ME2 did. It's a shame really. I love DAO and by the end of it I didn't care the visuals weren't spectacular because the entire game was so much damn fun, but I did hope BW learnt from DAO/A and stepped up the game visually before DA2 came out... and... well... I was disappointed. Still, I'll buy the game anyhow, I love BW but I hope they do consider what we're all saying x.x

Mass Effect 2 on PC completely maxed out is pretty much the best looking UE3 game, yes even better than Gears of War 2/3 (from what is seen yet) by a long shot.

DAO was kind of dated looking, but it certainly wasn't terrible, and with mods such as JB Textures the game looks awesome maxed out!

Graphics... It depends what you want, in my opinion Baldur's gate graphics were way better than NWN, call me crazy, but they were just more beautiful in the whole, not realistic, just a work of art! Bioware has it's strengths and weaknesses and we should all tolerate them, Bioware's strength goes to story, character development, everything that made origins special. Their weakness, Graphics, and I certainly don't remember games from their graphics.

Bioware, your graphics are not the best, but neither do I want them to be, they are average, and in some cases UNIQUE! The new artstyle for DA2 is just what DA needed to make it stand out from the whole Tolkien look it had before. One of the reasons I love Morrowind so much is because how Alien it is. Bioware you are Genius, in every possible way, you are developer Gods, and keep to it! Because the day you listen to this hypocrites is the day the company falls down hill!

I'm just happy if I don't have to change computer every year so that I could play games I know I will like :)

and on the another note....

The Witcher, Oct 2007 -> Witcher 2, spring 2011

Dragon age, Nov 2009 -> DA2, March 2011

Enough said about that

DAO runs great on my computer with the settings on highest (+ texture mods). I appreciate optimized graphic engines more than anything else. Plus I'm too busy actually playing a game to think about textures that could be high resolution.

It's because they hate you, they hate your eyeballs, and Ray Muzyka uses the boatloads of money EA sends them to buy cocaine, which he spends his days snorting off gold-plated motherboards.

That witcher 2 has better graphics because they had more time to play with it? Ofcourse there is that they had to built entirely new engine but.... just saying

Mass Effect 2 looks great. I agree that the Dragon Age series and The Old Republic have seriously outdated graphics, though.

KotOR had very good graphics for the time when it was actually launched -- reading reviews from back then it's highly praised for its visuals. Similar for ME and, if i recall right, Jade Empire and Baldur's Gate. So the OP's point of "always crappy graphics"... well, it's quite a stretch.

Graphics don't make a game awesome by themselves. I'm not saying that graphics are not important, but as long as they are presentable I don't have a problem with them not being "the best". I mean I was kind of upset by some of the low res textures in DA:O and ME2, but I got so engrossed in the story that at the end of the game I couldn't care less about them.

I don't think graphics were the first witcher's biggest problem. neither will they be the new one's. That said I think graphics have never and will never be the one thing that makes an RPG stand or fall. Of course beautiful graphics are nice to look at, nobody denies that. Just RPGs are not a genre that mostly lives from good graphics. Much more important are story and other rpgs elements like customisation of the main characters and gameplay.

I agree about DA:O. The graphics, in general, were god awful. For the most part ME2 had pretty good GFX though. I guess Miranda's face looked pretty ugly, but that was one tiny exception.

With that said, Origins facial features looked awful. The hair looked like it used so few polygons.... which strikes me as odd considering how an entire team of coders/3D GFX artists can't come up with anything aesthetically pleasing while one modder can do it by himself.

Now of course the screen below is a little over done (and looks like something you'd see in a JRPG) but it still looks better than any of the crappy default hair styles.

Because modders don't have to worry about quality. This picture you show just seems stupid in the setting of DA:O unless they have a team of hairstylers in the party. Is that what you think people in DA should look like in or after combat? Also I am sure there are a lot of clipping issues with this hairstyle that looks quite ridiculous in many scenes. Modders could care less, but Bioware certainly doesn't intend to put hairstyles in the game just so people can make you tube videos of it and laugh at it.
