Bioware - why always so crappy graphics?

Seriously, I hate it when people ***** about graphics. You can't expect as many fun choices or as long of a story or scenario's if they only focus on making pixels shinnier for the narrow-minded gamers.

Yes, the hairstyles were not the best. Yes, as a PC user I downloaded hairstyles to use.AlexXIV wrote...
Now of course the screen below is a little over done (and looks like something you'd see in a JRPG) but it still looks better than any of the crappy default hair styles.
However, I read earlier today (actually, it may have been yesterday) a dev stating the hairstyles are a lot better this time round (unfortunately I can not remember which topic it was in).

We're not asking for top notch graphics, Mr. Pheonix_Loftain, we're just asking for this gen graphics. Not several gens back.Phoenix_Loftian wrote...
This is why we need to go back to 2D. So people stop whining about graphics. Bioware did good with that internet Dragon Age game, now if only we can expect such top quality 2D material in Dragon Age 3.

Because modders don't have to worry
about quality. This picture you show just seems stupid in the setting of
DA:O unless they have a team of hairstylers in the party. Is that what
you think people in DA should look like in or after combat? Also I am
sure there are a lot of clipping issues with this hairstyle that looks
quite ridiculous in many scenes. Modders could care less, but Bioware
certainly doesn't intend to put hairstyles in the game just so people
can make you tube videos of it and laugh at it.
You're missing the point here, bub. It's not about the given hair style as much as it is its quality. Sure, the one I showed looks like something a fashion model would wear, but I'm talking about the overall polygon count as oppose to the default ones. Even the default hair styles would look good if remodelled.
See how rectangular the default one is?

What's wrong with 2D graphic? 2D game sprite can be gorgeous even now.
EDIT: For the record, I really don't like using Ren's hair in DA:O, while they looked fine in Oblivion they just stand out way too much against DA:O original artistic direction.

Fanboys are going to remain fanboys.
Cobra, the whole point I've been making is not about the actual HAIR STYLE, but regarding its QUALITY. I mean I can't really make it any more simple than that. The character you posted has well rendered hair, which is what I'm talking about (instead of rectangular low poly hair that is found in DA:O).
Through modding you can get a lot closer to creating the character in your pic as oppose to through default.

DA:O = good graphics
DA2 = good graphics.
Tehy ALL have good graphics. Perhaps its the color pallete or lighting that bugs you or something. But they all have good graphics. That is not to be disputed.

So why not use a better modded style for your comparison pic so the style doesn't get in the way of your point?
Edit: maybe I need a bigger monitor or something. Your new pic doesn't seem very different to me.

I'm sorry to tell you this Mr. AlanC9, but your taste is not universal. If you expect me to magically know what you'll like, then, simply put, you're retarded. I for one dig the style, as do thousands of other people based on its download count.

First off don't call me bub, ******. Because if you want this to turn into an insult war I am not going to back down. I don't see what you mean by the pictures you present, maybe you should learn to pick some that make your point clear next time. If you think I am going to zoom in to see any details then I wonder how this distubed you while playing, are you sitting with your face at the screen or something?
I'd even admit that they could have given us more hair-and beard styles to choose from, but those we had were fine for me, I didn't and don't see any graphical issue.

This is exactly right. What we don't have are the very best graphics possible on a platform, and that's for a very good reason: we're spending our processor and graphics resources in different places.
Asking why Dragon Age doesn't have industry leading graphics is like asking to know why you can't simultaneously issue orders and control 4 crysis suit dudes in Crysis 2, because you can control 4 people simultaneously in Dragon Age 2. Different games, different focus.
Game development is about choices and priority. That said, our graphics have consistently gotten better with each title in our franchises, and we're quite pleased with that.

Art style may well be, but cutting edge for quality of graphics, meh.
That said, I really like the graphics for ME1, ME2 and DA:O. *shrug*
I still play games from the 80's, though, so what do I know?

As for your concern, Bioware had specifically said that improvement on texture quality is a big focus for DAII developement in order to improve player experience while using 3rd person view; it's one of the reason why they decide to scrape the tactical camera to begin with.

Since when is 'bub' an insult? I presented pretty good samples, you might need to get glasses. Also we're talking about a game which consists of 90% dialogue (which often includes YOUR FACE). You don't need to zoom in to see just how ugly the default hair/beard is. I'd rather look at something nice during dialogue as oppose to ****ty low poly 3D art.
Want my advice? Calm down, bub.

The graphics in Bioware's games have always been fine. If you really want better graphics, go play other games.
Sadly, many players will take this advice to heart. The quality of graphics will affect sales significantly and thereby influence the future of the franchise. Just look at the comments on gametrailers or gamespot and you will see that many players immediately lose interest. I don't understand why ME2 looks so much better than DA2. I can personally live with DA2's graphics, but many players expect more. It would be sad to see the Dragon Age franchise fail because of that.
